Sorry guys I can t handle the spoiler tags. Mods can merge in well or so if need be.

—————————

Just got out and I thought it was pretty good over all. Much than TFA. It took some rather original twists that felt refreshing. Do I think it was on ESB level? No. I would still rate the entire 4-6 saga (which will never be beat and we need to accept that and move on) and Rouge One above it. It’s probably on par with with Ep 3 if not a slight notch above.

I’m not seeing this “Disney killed Star Wars” meme that is being tossed about.

I liked what they did with Luke as a broken hero. I liked his send off and thought it was much more original than if he had just had a dual with Kylo. And yes... I enjoyed him milking the space cow thing for blue milk.

I thought the Yoda part was great! He actually looked like the Yoda from ESB.

I don’t care who Rey’s parents are and in fact I like that they were nobody’s much better than some possible convoluted story about her being Luke or Obiwan’s child/grandchild or what have you. The Star Wars universe seemed so big in the first Trilogy before Lucas shrunk it back down in the prequels where everyone had some type of history with each other. I appreciate the randomness of Rey springing up from nothing.

I liked Snoke getting killed but would still like to know more about him.

I did NOT care for Leia saving her self from space. That was dumb and my only major gripe.

The casino planet did feel a little prequalish but it didn’t ruin the movie or anything.

I’ve got more but let’s just get the spoiler conversation going.

I was extremely disappointed that there was animal racing instead of pod racing.

Felt like piloting pod racers instead of riding on creatures would have been an awesome getaway scene.

So how exactly does the Force work now? Yoda is a force ghost then suddenly is freakin there. Not a Force ghost, he's actually there and hits Luke in the face with his cane. And now Luke has some kind of Force projection where he's not there, but somehow was able to carry the Falcon dice things and give them to Leia.

So if Yoda can do that, then why can't in the next movie Yoda, Obi-Wan, Qui-Gonn, Anakin, and Luke all show up and kick the s*** out of Kylo Ren?

Why was Benicio Del Toro cast as The Waterboy?

I don't like that Snoke turned out to be a big nothing. He ended up being under developed Diet Emperor.

I don't think the Rey's parents thing is necessarily over. There's a chance Ren is lying to her.

I did like Luke and Rey's training and interactions. The part about "I feel something!" "THAT'S THE FORCE!" was pretty great. And Luke complaining about the Jedi books burning (even though he was just about to do that) and Yoda asking him if he even read them and Luke's reaction was basically "Well...no".

Didn't the dice dissappear when Kylo picked them up?

Well the dice did disappear in Kylos hand so they were never really there.

As for Yoda, he looked all glowy to me the whole time. To my knowledge there has never been a clear definition of what a force ghost can or cannot do? Why did Ben only appear briefly on Hoth.. off in the distance with vague instructions.. then on Dagobah he was able to pull up a chair and have a 10 minute chat? If Quigon was the first to be a force ghost why didn’t his body vanish?

I liked Luke’s force projection and it seemed to take everything in him to make it happen. I thought it was a much more original way of having him in the climax than physically being there for another dime a dozen light saber duel.

So if Yoda can do that, then why can't in the next movie Yoda, Obi-Wan, Qui-Gonn, Anakin, and Luke all show up and kick the s*** out of Kylo Ren?

Again.. we don’t really know what the limitations of force ghost really are. They may only be connected to certain people. Note that Luke said if Kylo strikes him down he would essentially haunt him forever. I totally expect that in Ep 9.

Why was Benicio Del Toro cast as The Waterboy?

Meh... that’s nitpicking. Didn’t bother me in the slightest.

I don't like that Snoke turned out to be a big nothing. He ended up being under developed Diet Emperor.

Fair enough but there was already dissent among fans that Snoke was Palpatine light. I get being dissatisfied with his part of the story.. and there very well could be more to come... but his death was a completely unexpected twist. I liked that about.

I don't think the Rey's parents thing is necessarily over. There's a chance Ren is lying to her.

Could be but she seemed to acknowledge Kylo was right.

I thought the island stuff was great. It could have easily turned into Yoda/Luke training and ESB redux but they gave it twist with Luke being the broken hero reluctant to train a new Jedi.

He was about to burn the books but then chickened out. Yoda gave him a kick in the pants by doing it anyway. Which I think just surprised Luke.

I thought it was great. Completely different than all the others and was really enjoyable. Leia space scene got a little carried away. I really enjoyed the moment the ship went into light speed and crashed into the first order ship. It was quit for five to ten seconds and the entire theatre was silent you could hear a pin drop. At first I was disappointed about lack of developt for snoke but don’t really care. These movies need to evolve and they are doing really well for themselves and the actors.

Ok, he actually picked up the dice and then they disappeared so that is just stupid. It’s not nitpicking. It’s the reality based in the movie’s environment. Also, if these dice as so special that like and Leia were connected to them emotionally the why have we never seen or heard about them? And why would Kylo even care? See, what Disney did is totally take a giant dump on the series by throwing this crap out there and giving it’s main character a piss poor departure. I hate all the new characters except for Rey. And wow, the Asian girl???? That was just lame.

So again, did Luke use some sort of Force ability to make dice appear then disappear? Seems kind of silly.

And no there have never been any clear definitions, but Obi Wan clearly said to Luke in ESB that he "couldn't interfere" when Luke had to confront Vader. And yeah he sat down where a log was but he never physicially interacted with Luke. Yoda was clearly NOT a force ghost, he was an actual puppet. And again he hit Luke in the head with his cane. It was clear he was physically there and apparently can control lightning now.

My understanding of the body disappearing has always had to do with accepting death. Obi Wan did, Yoda did, Luke did. Qui Gonn was killed in battle. None of the other Jedi that died in the prequels disappeared either. Plus I'm not sure what correlation that has to do with being a "force ghost".

Liam Neeson was supposed to appear in AOTC as a Force Ghost to Anakin when he was looking for his mother but he had a bad motorcycle accident and couldn't film, and in ROTS his schedule wouldn't allow him to film the part so Lucas just wrote it in that Yoda told Obi-Wan about it.

Could be but she seemed to acknowledge Kylo was right.

She didn't know for sure, but also it's possible those weren't her real parents if she was given to them as a small child just like Luke was.

I'm not saying she's related to Luke or anyone but I am saying I don't think that particular plot point is closed yet.

overall I was extremely disappointed with it. Some good parts, but there were some really, really bad parts as well.

The Good:
1. The Rey/Ren fight with the Preatorian Guards was fantastic. As good as anything in the previous films.
2. Yoda
3. I’m glad they took some shine off of Poe.
4. Rey in general

The bad:
1. The entire Canto Bight sequence was awful. Looked like something out of the prequels.
2. Rose was a completely useless character.
3. Leia turning into Wonder Woman.
4. They have no idea what to do with Finn’s character.
5. Luke tossing the lightsaber over his shoulder.
6. No snoke backstory
7. Cheap laughs
8. Luke dusting off his shoulder.
9. Luke milking whatever that big thing was.
10. How they handled Luke in general.

It was entertaining, but it felt more like a guardians of the galaxy type film. There really wasn’t a story, just a bunch of different storylines that never really meshed. They had a real chance to advance the storyline from TFA, but it’s like they decided to completely ignore what had happened previously. Hopefully JJ can pull off episode 9. I do believe how they wrap up this trilogy will affect the way people view this movie down the road.

so did they kill off luke? Without him actually using a lightsaber? If so the directors are more out of touch with the pulse of the fans than currie and the schiano gig. Luke and Han have been immortal to me since i was 5 years old, to kill them off like this is ridiculous .

Now. Im pretty sure rey stole the books, FiN sees them in the drawer of the falcon at the end of the movie.

I liked yoda being able to take form and hit lukes head, if luke IS a force ghost maybe we get to see him destroy legions with a saber after all.

Del toro was a joke, along with rose.

Give me a reason to invest in these movies. Disney is losing me quickly.

The more I think about the Finn/Rose storyline, the more upset I get. We only have 6 hours to find this mystical code breaker and save the resistance, but hey let’s spend time looking through mounted binoculars and talking about animal cruelty and how awful all these rich people are. They could have used that 20 minutes to give us something on snoke, or showed Rey training, or showed Ren completing his training.

Mark Hamill said before the film was released that he wasn’t happy with the direction that Rian Johnson took Luke. Now I know why he felt that way.

Well good for you, but just because something didn't bother you doesn't make it nitpicking. It was pretty silly.

Just because it bugged you doesn’t mean it’s silly. See how that works.

If I’m being honest I would agree that it was silly but it didn’t bother me enough to put much thought into it. He was character that had a stutter. Big deal.

His stutter had no bearing on they story so I would definitely call that nitpicking.

So again, did Luke use some sort of Force ability to make dice appear then disappear? Seems kind of silly.

My take is that Luke was probably holding them as he was projecting himself across the galaxy. It may have gone a little far that they were still lying there when Leia dropped them.

It may seem silly but when a character is using a magical power to project his presence across the galaxy it well within the same boundary’s of suspending disbelief.

Also, in the Clone Wars when Anakin visits the force planet of Mortis they used the force to create objects there so it is possible according to cannon.

Consider that this act seemed to take everything in Luke to even make it happen.

And no there have never been any clear definitions, but Obi Wan clearly said to Luke in ESB that he "couldn't interfere" when Luke had to confront Vader.

Then you’ve answered your own question about why a team of force ghosts don’t go kick Kylo’s ass.

And yeah he sat down where a log was but he never physicially interacted with Luke.

He didn’t NOT interact with Luke physically either. If I recall he did however dodge branches and stuff as he walked around. He didn’t just float through objects.

Yoda was clearly NOT a force ghost, he was an actual puppet. And again he hit Luke in the head with his cane. It was clear he was physically there and apparently can control lightning now.

No man. He had blue glowy stuff around him the whole time. It was faint but it was there.

Ok fair enough.

I can’t remember my original point as I’m writing this. LOL.

Ok... He did appear in the Clone Wars. Both on Mortis as previously mentioned and in the final episodes when Yoda went on a quest about becoming one with the force. Those episodes helped bridge that gap of Yoda throwing in that line during ROTS.

I agree they left it open to explore further but if they don’t I’m totally OK with taking it at face value.

I honestly think they came up with a pretty creative way take Luke out. We’ve seen him in two light saber duels already. And we’ve seen plenty of duels in general since then. As a life long SW fan I was satisfied with how he used in the climax.

I have a feeling he will be around as a Force Ghost.

Mark Hamill said before the film was released that he wasn’t happy with the direction that Rian Johnson took Luke. Now I know why he felt that way.

Hamill wanted Lucas to make Luke go to the Dark Side in ROTJ.

He may have been disappointed that Luke was a broken hero. I dunno. I would be interested to hear more specifics as to what he didn’t like.

.

I know how it works since I was replying in kind to you, and because it's kind of your thing around here to accuse people of "nitpicking" when they say something you disagree with. Not to mention you come across pretty douchey when you pull that out like that.

Also, look around, apparently a lot of people are "nitpicking" about it.

Did you seriously just write that?

No man. He had blue glowy stuff around him the whole time. It was faint but it was there.

Agree to disagree; when he first showed up it was obvious, but when he sat next to Luke and it was clearly a puppet, the tint went away.

Easy friend. I like to think we have healthy disagreements.

I’m not going to get into the semantics of nitpicking but I do put a minor character’s stutter in that category. I even agreed it was kinda silly.
