Suicides account for more than half of "gun deaths" in the US. Meanwhile, our suicide rate is pretty much in line with other first world countries so that had virtually no effect. Take away another couple percentage points away from accidental/negligent shootings and justified police shootings and we are at ~65%. Throw in another 10-15% depending on your source for gang violence. So really we are speaking about 20% of the "gun violence" in reality to the numbers reported. That doesn't factor in justified self-defense either.
The reality is gun violence isn't even in the same stratosphere as to what is reported.
