The Supreme Court of the United States Thread

I’d have to go back and look at the decision, but this sounds a lot like what I read other places after his dissent in June Medical, which said Roe should be overruled.

There is too much money being raised for conservative groups to just stop here. Obergefell will be the next target, I imagine.
I think that ship has sailed except in one possible case:

Someone attempts to use Obergefell to force states like NY to recognize Tennessee concealed weapon permits.

My disagreement with Obergefell is on the state's rights issue. Could care less who marries who wherever.

There may be some groups that'll spend money on it, and it could make it's way to a State legislature or two. But I don't see it having enough juice to make it's way thru the courts.

Though if I had my druthers, the Court would uphold gay marriage while taking a hacksaw to Kennedy's decision. His reasoning was abysmal.

The leftists radicals are laugable. Many of these people in front of the Supreme Court are so stupid they can't articulate what they are mad about or know it's not close to true what they think they're mad about. Always get a chuckle when girly men are triggered in the crowd like they need abortion options at the federal level. Like oh my gosh.

In reality, this could very well turn out to be a big nothing burger. I'll bet the vast majority, if not all, states will continue to keep abortion legal anyway. I believe there are already "trigger laws" set by some states to go in effect as soon as R VS W was overturned.

It’s going to probably end up being about half the states or so. I think the trigger law states number around…22 states?

Seems the upholding of the MS law would have been enough. I agree with Roberts that it didn't have to go all the way to overturning Roe
I don’t have a problem with overturning Roe, in a vacuum. If they had done it in 1992, I suspect we’d be in a better place now, as a country.

Ginsburg’s criticism of the decision as being too much too soon has panned out. The fight over it was too bitter and has allowed a lot of good vs. evil to creep into our politics.

Whether that would have happened anyways or whether it is now too late for a course correction or not, I don’t know.

Roberts reasoning doesn't work. He wants to get rid of one unworkable bright line in favor of another. The majority opinion called out the weakness of his position.

Not that it should impact rulings but this one here is going to cause major turmoil in our country for decades. I put this in the careful what you wish for category. I guess it's a good thing that neither party can seem to handle power advantages and always take it too far.

Can't comment on the legal justification for Roe which I have always heard was suspect. In general though taking away a "found" freedom is always going to have a high bar in my book.

The pump is already being primed on that issue.

Hopefully it will lead to more states taking back authority ceded to the federal government over the decades.
