The Supreme Court of the United States Thread

This is a great day! Love or hate Trump he deserves credit for his SCOTUS nominations, they have been pretty good so far in knee capping federal power.
Big win for anybody desiring to reign in government over reach. It is a stupid position “well the law is ambiguous and the Feds say it’s within their purview so we’ll just go with that.” Moronic.

In a massive victory for J6 political prisoners and an unprecedented defeat for the corrupt Biden/Garland/Monaco/Graves DOJ, SCOTUS has overturned the DOJ's use of 1512(c)(2), obstruction of an official proceeding, in J6 cases.

THIS MEANS THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE HAS UNLAWFULLY PROSECUTED 350+ AMERICANS FOR THEIR PARTICIPATION IN JANUARY 6--A FLAGRANT ABUSE OF THE LAW TO PUNISH THOSE WHO PROTESTED BIDEN'S ELECTION AND TO CRIMINALIZE POLITICAL DISSENT.

...Here it is. For many it is the funeral dirge for the administrative state...https://supremecourt.gov/opinions/23pdf/22-451_7m58.pdf

..It is important to note that this Republic did exist before Chevron. I have long been a critic of the case because I felt that it undermined the Madisonian system. Courts will now perform their constitutional and traditional function in review...

..In combination with SEC v. Jarkesy, the court is not just empowering courts but citizens in fights with federal agencies...

...In SEC v. Jarkesy, the Court ruled that citizens charged with civil penalties have the right to a jury trial, under the Seventh Amendment. Now agencies will not be able to count on sweeping deference in their interpretations. Also keep in mind that the Court has embraced the "major questions" doctrine to demand greater clarity in some of these cases...

POTUS immunity should be coming out soon..
probably monday

I expect that Smith will push for a trial on the remaining counts rather than seek a superseding indictment. The court might allow it. Yet, there still remains the immunity decision for Monday. If the immunity decision is sent back, he may have ample time to seek an superseding indictment given the need for further proceedings...

These rulings are 100 percent why I voted for Trump. I give zero chits about his personality. I care that he put multiple conservative justices on who have pulled power back from the government. Chevron ruling today was massive on so many levels.

He gets re-elected and odds are he is replacing 2 maybe three more judges.

Great points in his favor.

Jackson's concurrence in Fischer is surprisingly level-headed and lucid. It might be the best thing she's written since joining the court, which is admittedly a very low bar.
Whoa whoa whoa. I’m guessing she was ill or something and once she realizes how lucid her opinion was she’ll fix it

It shocked the hell out of me that Jackson concurred AND Barrett dissented.

Who besides (potentially) Sotomayor? Think that Thomas steps down to let Trump replace him?

sotomayor is the only one that changes the complexion of the court

I think the set of rulings this year show various coalitions of members despite the rhetoric that it's all the right leaners
Yes, Sotomayor changing would drastically alter the court.

Replacing Thomas would simply be locking in a seat for another 30 years - something the Democrats failed to do with Ginsberg.

There have certainly been plenty of mixed rulings.
