1. Another easy victory that doesn't really tell a lot. It was a foul fest in the second half that prevented from being a 30 point win. I was shocked TSU hit that many free throws. It was crazy. Anyways, nice victory.

2. I was highly, highly impressed with Darius Thompson tonight. His vision was excellent and he was doing a great job of pinpointing passes. He has a quick first step, and he crashes the boards. He is still weak defensively on ball, but off ball he uses his length to create turnovers.

3. You see the unlimited talent Robert Hubbs has. Such a great first step, his stroke is textbook, he can finish with either hand. He just needs to be confident with the ball in his hands. It's a process and he's going to be a stud here.

4. I love Jeronne Maymon, so I'm not trying to take a shot. He should definitely still be the starter. But after two games of the four guard lineup, it's really hard for me to ignore that he should just be a 20 minute a game player. Get Armani Moore and A.J. Davis minutes till Maymon gets back to 100%.

5. I just wasn't impressed with the defense tonight. Way too handsy on the perimeter that gave TSU a ridiculous 26 free throws. It didn't help the refeeres didn't let the players play on either side, but they were too lazy with their feet. They did do a good job protecting the three point line. I guess I can't complain about 43 points from the field, but I didn't get a great sense of urgency.

6. The offense is in great sync right now. They are moving, cutting, and setting better screens. They attack the basket, and do a very good job dishing off penetration. However, Tennessee must get Josh Richardson more opportunities. He's too good to ignore on offense and he needs the ball in his hands to make more plays. I like the offense and they are looking good, but getting Josh a few more shots would just benefit the offense.

7. Bernard King Player of the Game: I really wanna give this to Darius Thompson, but that's unfair to Jordan McRae, who played a hell of a game. 25 points on 13 shots is the definition of efficient. He's just been a monster this season and he might just be the best wing scorer in the SEC.

8. When you have 19 offensive rebounds, and only 7 turnovers, then you might as well just give it up because you will lose. Tennessee is doing a great job of not giving up possessions.

9. I felt that UT needed to use the press more. I felt that TSU really was out of rhythm when Tennessee threw it on them. I don't believe UT should be a pressing team by any means, but I would keep that in the gameplan moving forward, especially when the Vols go to a four guard lineup.

10. Easy win. Nothing to worry about. The only reason it was even 20 was the free throws. The defense was a little off, but the offense was crisp and UT looks to be in sync. Tennessee must get two wins in the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament. This is a huge test for them. Hopefully the boys enjoy their holiday by winning the whole damn thing.

Go Vols!!! :hi:

Always a great write up Z. 15 assist and 7 turnovers is great as a team. Gotta keep being active. Can't wait until UTEP we'll really see how much we've progressed from Xavier until now.

Good stuff.

I think McRae is a top 10 player in the country right now, and for what he means to this team, I don't think there's anyone in the NCAA I would trade for him. He's definitely the best UT player since Chism/Lofton.

Good to see the 4 guard, or 4 out-1 in, lineup is becoming more apparent as our best offensive option.

Lofton I understand... but Chism?

If we continue to take care of the ball and shoot the 3 like we have been we are gonna be tough to beat.

I'm with you on the defense Z, still doesn't seem to be where it needs to be. The good news is our offense is probably better than expected, but if the defense would get there as well we would be very, very good.

Hopefully they correct those mistakes within the next 5 days or so, have a great chance to prove themselves next week.

Also another thing I don't understand is Hubbs. It's like he doesn't even have to try and he gets 10 points on the scoreboard. His 4th game into the season and it seems effortless. Can't wait till we get to SEC play, this guy will be a beast!

Referencing the OP's comment on the subject, as it is becoming more and more obvious to everyone.

I agree it's effective and have said as much.

Where we disagreed was that I don't believe it needs to be our primary set, in other words us playing more 4 guard than Maymon/Stokes.

I was curious as to the minute breakdown of it tonight.

When it's the most effective game plan, then you go with it as the primary option.

As it was tonight, Maymon had 27 mins, Jarnell 29, Hubbs 20, Thompson 24 and Moore 16.

Yea my minutes breakdown has us playing 22 minutes of 2 posts, and 18 minutes on 4 guard.

So we still are going with it as our primary set, and I would bet in a close game Maymon and Stokes are out there.

Which would be a mistake. Hopefully, this will become more apparent to Martin.

I liked this post. I just think that having jarnell and jeronne playing at the same time isn't working out so far. I think it can be fixed; i just dont know exactly how. Right now, I just think having four guards and one big gives the team more flexibility on both sides. I think Martin will figure out what's best for the team and if he can have a line up with both maymon and stokes in he will surely use it IMO.
