61.5% from the 3. He's on fire. Hope he can keep it up through next weekend before he comes down to earth.
Now you guys see why cm was very pleased with our pgs coming in. Upgrade on leadership, mentality, pushing pace, distribution, defense, ballhandling, composure, and just all around playing the game.
I believe I was called stupid and asinine for telling you all this summer how big of an upgrade we were getting at the position.
If we had Barton or Thompson last year we would have made the dance. Darius Thompson reminds me of Steph Curry a little just doesn't have that shot...yet. He's just so smooth. I think there is a spot for him and Hubbs both in the league in a couple of years.

1. Another easy victory that doesn't really tell a lot. It was a foul fest in the second half that prevented from being a 30 point win. I was shocked TSU hit that many free throws. It was crazy. Anyways, nice victory.
2. I was highly, highly impressed with Darius Thompson tonight. His vision was excellent and he was doing a great job of pinpointing passes. He has a quick first step, and he crashes the boards. He is still weak defensively on ball, but off ball he uses his length to create turnovers.
3. You see the unlimited talent Robert Hubbs has. Such a great first step, his stroke is textbook, he can finish with either hand. He just needs to be confident with the ball in his hands. It's a process and he's going to be a stud here.
4. I love Jeronne Maymon, so I'm not trying to take a shot. He should definitely still be the starter. But after two games of the four guard lineup, it's really hard for me to ignore that he should just be a 20 minute a game player. Get Armani Moore and A.J. Davis minutes till Maymon gets back to 100%.
5. I just wasn't impressed with the defense tonight. Way too handsy on the perimeter that gave TSU a ridiculous 26 free throws. It didn't help the refeeres didn't let the players play on either side, but they were too lazy with their feet. They did do a good job protecting the three point line. I guess I can't complain about 43 points from the field, but I didn't get a great sense of urgency.
6. The offense is in great sync right now. They are moving, cutting, and setting better screens. They attack the basket, and do a very good job dishing off penetration. However, Tennessee must get Josh Richardson more opportunities. He's too good to ignore on offense and he needs the ball in his hands to make more plays. I like the offense and they are looking good, but getting Josh a few more shots would just benefit the offense.
7. Bernard King Player of the Game: I really wanna give this to Darius Thompson, but that's unfair to Jordan McRae, who played a hell of a game. 25 points on 13 shots is the definition of efficient. He's just been a monster this season and he might just be the best wing scorer in the SEC.
8. When you have 19 offensive rebounds, and only 7 turnovers, then you might as well just give it up because you will lose. Tennessee is doing a great job of not giving up possessions.
9. I felt that UT needed to use the press more. I felt that TSU really was out of rhythm when Tennessee threw it on them. I don't believe UT should be a pressing team by any means, but I would keep that in the gameplan moving forward, especially when the Vols go to a four guard lineup.
10. Easy win. Nothing to worry about. The only reason it was even 20 was the free throws. The defense was a little off, but the offense was crisp and UT looks to be in sync. Tennessee must get two wins in the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament. This is a huge test for them. Hopefully the boys enjoy their holiday by winning the whole damn thing.
Go Vols!!! :hi:
Innocent post/question, did you have to quote the entire post?Hey zjc,
Always enjoy reading the postgame reports. Good concise, cogent reads. Completely innocent post/question, but I'm going to assume you've played bball competitively at some appreciable level? HS varsity or above? Not questioning, so much as curious.
While I never called you stupid or asinine, I'll openly admit I wasn't sure about DT coming in to the year, mainly from a physical standpoint. I always have a special place in my heart for PGs, especially ones with great vision, and I'm quickly becoming a huge fan.
He could very well be. I don't see anything wrong with his statement.
The all time assists leader is Johnny Darden with 715.
The all time steals leader is Vincent Yarbrough with 211.
We play 31 games this season, plus SECT, and then postseason play. So for arguments sake let's say an average of 35 games a season for the next 4 years.
Thompson would have to average 5.1 assists per game and 1.5 steals per game in order to break both records. On the season while only playing 16 minutes a game is averaging 2.8 assists and 2.5 steals per game.
The assists number may be hard to get to, but I would make a prediction if he's here all 4 years he will break the steals record. The season record is 78, may be a number to watch.
You are good. See the same things I do. I have a place for pgs as well and specifically coached pgs for over a decade. Still go in as invited when some old coaches give me a ring.
That's why I always harp on the position and why I really didn't like pg play the 2-3 years prior.
