The Thread Where People Argue About Kneeling in the NFL (merged)

Trump said he is thinking about having all of the NFL players who do not respect the flag enough to stand during the National Anthem to give him names of people they know who have been wronged by the system and he will think about pardoning them. He then extended it to the NBA. Trump has the pardoning bug....big time. But this might actually be a good thing from Trump.

That's not exactly how it was said, but a reasonable facsimile thereof......and, I made the statement that something like this could have been done by the Eagles during their meeting with him and got laughed off the forum.

College does have a lot more scheme diversity, which is fun. Student sections, school traditions, different types of players succeeding, all of that is awesome.

I’m not sure how any of you are arguing a subjective experience can be objectively better than another subjective experience.

Wahoos - Local Dive in N. Redington Beach - Best Ahi around. Order off the special board. Place is a dive but you won't find fresher food anywhere. Service is sometimes slow, but food is good. Not pricey

Salt Rock Grill - Nice, great wine list. Pricey. It's in Indian Shores. Make reservations.

Island Way Grill - Owned by same folks that own Salt Rock. In Clearwater. Make reservations.

Frenchys in Clearwater. There are about 6 of them, but I prefer Frenchys Rockaway location on Clearwater Beach. It is on the beach. Food is pretty good. She Crab soup is the sh!t. Not super expensive.

Shephards Beach Resort has a good beach bar. The party there usually goes until the wee hours.

Crabby Bills is always packed, but the locals view it as the McDonalds of seafood. I will go to drink and watch the entertainment, but outside of the oysters on the halfshell I don't eat there.

If you want to get a great steak Charleys or Berns in Tampa. Although Salt Rock has a kick a$$ steak as well.

Cuban Food - Go to Columbia on Gulf blvd.

If you have any other questions, let me know.

If you are going to be drinking utilize Free Beach Ride. No charge, but they work for cash tips... or uber. Do not use the trolley. You will hate yourself if you do...

Mods should figure out how to sticky this post. Thank CWV. I hope to be heading back down there in the next year or so. Was down 2 years ago and loved it.

Anyone on this board that comes down... I would be more than happy to meet up for a beer. There are so many more recommendations/places/beaches etc that would be based on personality etc. These are just a few.

And for the guy coming down...

Fiance and I went to Salt Rock on Saturday. We had an oyster sampler (1 doz but 4 different kinds), bacon wrapped scallops, 25oz Cowboy and king crab legs. It was all extremely fresh and good. Took home almost all the steak and crab legs.

I highly recommend the frozen mojito. My fiance got one and it was really good.

I had heard Salt Rock had slacked off a little since their head chef died, but I found that to be untrue.

You don't see this invitation to request pardons for victims of the CJS as a win? Seems like this is exactly the sort of thing they were after.

Are you asking what Kap's won from a self-interested perspective?

This is the sort of thing they could have done in the first place by going to the WH and not acted like dicks.

But App State beating Michigan happens once a decade, at most. Alabama against an unranked team is like a 95% chance of Bama winning. The Pats can lose to anyone; in that way, the NFL is a lot less predictable.

I'd say maybe a bit closer to every year, two tops. It doesn't have to be an FCS school knocking off one of the blue bloods.

So the Eagles/Cavaliers/Warriors decide to NOT go to the one place where the conversation can be held and with the one person that actually has some power to accomplish their goals. And be seen standing united with that one guy that can actually make the difference.

A bunch of spoiled ass *******.

Added a little bit.....because you know he wouldn't have missed the opportunity to showcase that.

Subjected is a bit strong. That is what I'm referring to. A player taking a knee is not a traumatic or tortuous situation. You will live.

It's not being subjected to them doing it, it's the endless media coverage and side stories that make you want to puke.

Damn right you did. And certainly not compared to college.

Say the Browns best the Patriots or Eagles. Meh. Say the worst team in college beats Alabama. Now that’s something.

The last is an extreme example. But yes, college has real upsets, the NFL doesn’t.

When the Giants beat the undefeated Patriots in the Super Bowl it wasn’t crazy or that unexpected.

That is hopefully because the level of competition is vastly superior than college. The margin between first and last place should be more narrow.

Shouldn't it be the people you're protesting against that you make feel uncomfortable? In this case, that would be the police, not the fans. I totally understand wanting to make a difference. I get drawing attention to what you perceive as a wrong. What I don't get is trying to force your opinion on everyone else. And when it becomes a week after week thing, that's what it becomes.

People go to football games to escape from real life, if even for just a few hours. They don't go to see players trying to make a political statement. It takes away from the game experience, which is the reason people go to begin with.

There is no amount of protesting that can be done by a bunch of overpaid morons playing a game that will be understood. Athletes these days are like Hollywood actors, just in way better shape and a slightly different skill set. Yes they are at the pinnacle of the games they play but still, they are entertainment, nothing more, nothing less.

Thanks CWV. We can talk boats and the Vols instead of politics!

I'd rather watch a close game than a hyped game. I'd much rather watch a close Jets-Ravens game than a hyped Florida-FSU game that ends up being 27-2. And in terms of the closeness of each game, the NFL has college beat.

Some hyped games are surprise blowouts, others are not. Don’t be upset with your lack of knowledge beforehand.

Closeness does not mean good. 6-3 Browns/Jets isn’t some amazing defensive struggle. Not all close scores are the same though. 9-6 Bama/LSU was a great game to watch.

Do you want the extra point moved back to the 3? Do you know why they moved it?

I prefer unpredictability arising from competence (GW drive with 1 minute left) to unpredictability arising from incompetence (missed 20-yard FG to lose the game). College has a lot more of the latter.

That’s where the difference is.

You’re entertained by boring and predictable outcomes.

I’m entertained by exciting games where I don’t know what will happen.

Predictable outcomes, like Bama rolling half their regular season schedule by 4 TD's? Who didn't see that coming?

If the NFL is so predictable, you could make a grip in Vegas betting winners and losers.

Never understood auto racing (Nascar or otherwise). Why not just watch a goldfish swim around in it's bowl. Same concept.

Show me a goldfish that can do it at 200mph or one that can go from 0 to 330mph in 3.5 seconds and I’ll probably watch.

If you’re a gear head you probably like it. If you’re not a gear head you probably don’t. Neither is right or wrong to each their own.

Except for soccer. They’re just a bunch of *******.

There’s no need to be disingenuous.

I’ve stated extremes as well as you and Nash but we’re missing the point.

I’m not talking about Bama beating up on the little sisters of the poor just like you’re not talking about a crappy Lions/Browns game.

I’m talking overall. There are far more Interesting and entertaining matchups on Saturdays than there are on Sundays.

A good college game is far more entertaining than a good pro game.

There’s reasons there are a ton of college stadiums with capacities more than the largest NFL team. Tradition/pageantry/entertainment/etc. people care more about their college teams than pro teams for a variety of reasons. You think the 0-16 Browns could have averaged the attendance that the worst team in Tennessee history averaged? Hell, there’s a reason you’re on here and not on a Broncos message board.

People care more.

Tennessee games weren’t entertaining last year, but the top college games certainly were more entertaining that the top NFL games.

Then yes, you noted the flaw in your own argument yourself. Pee wee football should be your favorite, since you don't even know if the kid will run in the right direction. How exciting! How unpredictable!
