The Tiger Woods saga

One shot back. Win or lose. Tiger has that damn look in his eye again. Watch out Augusta.

Tigers doing great, considering what he's overcoming and continuing to stay in contention on the weekend, is setting up well for Augusta

The competition has changed since Tiger's reign. It's just hard to imagine him pulling off a win at Augusta with the physical and mental obstacles he would have to overcome.

So, don't count him out.

I've never been a Tiger fan, but I have to say, I really, really badly want to see him in contention on Saturday and/or Sunday. Say he's on 12 or 13 and rolls in a long birdie putt to pull him to within a shot or two of the lead. Does that roar still have the impact on the field like it did 15 years ago?

I never imagined saying this just a few months ago, but I'd be surprised at this point if he struggled and missed the cut at Augusta. He's been playing really well lately, so his back probably really is better at this point.

I'll be amazed if he Cracks the top 10. He's supposedly hitting it well, but getting up and down and controlling speed on those greens is insanely tough and we're talking about a guy who still has a relatively low number of competitive rounds since coming back.

If the putter is working for him, he has a chance

His short game has always been his best weapon. No different on this comeback.

Another tough thing for Tiger is that he has to hit a driver or 3 wood on probably 13 holes. Exceptions are the par 3's and number 3. That is 52 times in 4 days, and there is a bunch of trouble left on several holes. He can't afford but 2 or 3 bad tee shots, and still win. He won't be able to hit his 2 iron off the tee there and be competitive.

I agree, but.... there's not much rough, so he can miss. He just can't miss bad.

Yeah I’d be more concerned if this was a US Open setup. You’re right, that his short game needs to be on point, but I’m not worried about the tee unless he’s two fairways over.

I'm not talking about rough. I'm talking possible tree trouble left on 2, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, 15, and 18. You can also get behind a tree on 1, 14 and 17. Also tree trouble right on a few holes like 7, 11 and 18, and a couple others. He can't afford many left misses.

I would agree with that assessment if his putting hadn't dramatically improved though. There for a while, despite all the back trouble, the worst part of his game was actually putting and chipping. Your full swing shots, not your short game, should be most affected by a bad back, which indicated to me that his problems were just as much (if not more) between the ears rather than physical.

Not only does he appear to have gotten his back physically healthy, but he seems better between the ears too. It's been a long time since he's played on a stage like this, and even longer since he contended on a stage like this, but it by no means will be foreign to him. I'm not saying I expect him to win or even finish in top 10 or 15, but I will be surprised if he totally flames out.

Lol... In other words, you don't quite agree with me except that you agree and don't expect him to top 10.
