The Tiger Woods saga

I read everything golf related in any thread. Doesn't mean I click the link to 'Tiger caught buying Maxi Pads for Lindsey' that he posts.

With that in mind, with the competition in golf now every bit Woods' equal, can he rise to the challenge? Specifically, can he clear that major hurdle five more times to pass Jack Nicklaus' record 18 majors?

"Can he? Yes," Palmer says, without hesitation. "But will he? That is..." Palmer pauses, weighing how to answer. He finally lifts a hand, rotating it in a "so-so" motion. "Very questionable."

Overstates Woods' demise. He's still among the top contenders and will likely win again sooner or later.

When that happens, prepare for the media overreaction in the opposite direction.

Exactly. His game is fine.

His game is fine. His head is a wreck.

I don't know that his head is even that wrecked. It's just hard to win majors and injuries are catching up with him. Plus, at some point he's got to just get bored with the whole thing and not work as hard.

Haneys made a few commens about his preparation so that's probably contributing along with other players games getting better

Just look at Rory he's falling back after a couple of years

Tigers been grinding for decades

You don't even need to wait for him to win. The media, in particular ESPN, seems to do 180s on Woods about 3-4 times a year.

If he's playing well leading up to a major, especially if he wins a tournament, they declare that he's back and put him as the favorite to win the next major. When he doesn't win it, they immediately start talking about how he's fallen, especially if it plays out that he went into Sunday with a good shot to win and falters.

If he doesn't win the PGA, look for a slew of articles about his demise between then and next April before the Masters, when they'll declare he's prime to win it.

Yes.

Really, it's a pointless exercise trying to predict the favorite for a golf tournament. Who can foresee who will get hot for a weekend?
