The Trap's Conference Rankings...

LSU has a few good frosh, but is pretty much the same team minus Tasmin who was by far their best player. You should win by 20, anything less and I would be concerned

Hat,

I would like your input on another conference that wasn't discussed at all, but have been very solid in recent years and with heavy attrition at most schools, I have become unfamiliar with the landscape in the Missou Valley Conf. How do you see the conference faring as a whole this season and any breakout players to look for?

Appreciated,
Wichita State will be really good. Top 25 caliber good. Northern Iowa will still be tough. The Missouri State team that comes into Knoxville in a couple of weeks is probably a year away from having a real shot at the conference title. Bradley and Creighton will both be competitive. The rest of the league is pretty average, at best.

Murray at Wichita State and Weems at Missouri State are the two best players in the Valley.

Well it will be our first semi-test of the season. I knew they were better but they didnt have a choice with their horrific performance last year. They are taking a very aggressive and risky approach to getting better. I know the JOB issue involved a lot of money changing hands. I find it interesting that a university with such a football tradition and a limited bball tradition would allow them to put the entire athletic department at risk. Watch and see these next few years if they dont land a lot of really good players that have no affiliation or geographic ties to LSU.

I appreciate the info Hat. I have to admit I do like my bracket buster week and getting a chance to see the teams with the most heart and cohesion go toe-to-toe and will be looking out for Murray and Weems for sure.

Thanks again,

Hat good work, I always look forward to your work this time of the year.

The only time I look forward to comments from Hat...

J/k Hat, you actually tend to frustrate the idiots quite well. Which turns out, is a lot of fun to sit back and watch.

I think LSU will do that. Marcus Thornton is the only recent player to have any success in the league, so they don't have a whole lot to sell outside of potentially climbing to the top of a now-horrid division. I would say if you start seeing elite prospects heading to LSU from traditionally non-existent ties that a lot more money will be changing hands behind the scenes. At the same time, what does LSU have to lose? lol

A post-season ban when they have no tourney aspirations?

A scholly reduction when they have trouble getting enough good players to put on scholly?

Shoot, I'd be shaking stuffed hands all day long! lol

The only problem is that if it gets too widespread then the entire athletic department could be sanctioned. Im not accusing the football team of any illegal recruiting but when the NCAA comes to investigate they usually look at everything. It would really suck for them if the NCAA came looking into basketball and happened to find something with football. It seems like a pretty legit risk for little reward. I will say that LSU has done a pretty good job of staying clean with the NCAA recently so even if they get sanctioned then it should be light.

Glen Davis... how did my memory lapse so friggin hard on that one. He has been more productive than I would have thought when he first entered the league. I can still hear echoes of Verne screaming "BIG BABY HARD ON THE GLASS!" Tyrus Thomas has been such a bust to this point. He didn't have game in college aside from the SEC tourney and that made him a must get prospect on most teams board... for what reason I'll never understand. He was a 6'8" shot blocker getting drafted into a league of 6'8" 2G's... He has no offensive game whatsoever... Makes Noah look like MJ with the ball in his hands

Tyrus Thomas? He hasnt done a whole lot in the league yet though and that was the original statement. He was a beast at LSU.

Not really. He was drafted purely on rise and arm length.

I broke down LSU player by player.

Memphis should beat LSU by 20? Not going to happen. You are telling a Memphis fan that LSU sucks because they just added good freshmen? As opposed to Memphis that is going to be primarily freshmen?

I said that Auburn would be awful (but alot of that has to do with two great recruits both being ineligible).

I also think LSU and Arkansas will have much better OOC records which I broke down using their roster and schedule.

If you want to make a specific prediction feel free to do so. If you want to just make snarky comments about me predicting 13 SEC teams into the NCAA's you can continue to contribute nothing substantive to the discussion.

South Carolina will have more OOC victories prior to conference play than last year.

Once Bost and Sidney return and depending on Ole Miss the SEC has 7 teams with the potential to be in the top 25.

People in this thread are drastically underestimating
Florida,
Kentucky if Kanter is not clear
and Tennessee.

This is Pearl's deepest team, and it should be his best even though offensive option 1 will probably be a true freshman.
