Now that the draft deadline has come and gone, the last big mystery this offseason is the Terrence Jones decision. For purposes of this initial ranking, I'm assuming he goes to Washington.

1. Purdue.
2. Duke.
3. Michigan State.
4. Pittsburgh.
5. Villanova.
6. Kansas State.
7. Washington.
8. Virginia Tech.
9. Ohio State.
10. Temple.

Great post Hat! The only team that really surprised me was Virginia Tech. What do you think makes them top ten material?

They return every player of significance from a team that should have made the NCAA Tournament and add some decent personnel. Also, I zoned out doing something else for a minute. Kansas State should be in Gonzaga's slot.

No way Virginia Tech is top 10 team next year. Washington is probably not a top ten team either, with or without Terrence Jones. Both may be top 20 but not top 10.

No SEC teams. I hope some day we can be more of a powerhouse conference.

Washington is a very good team next year if they "keep" Jones.

Gaddy, Thomas, Overton, Jones, Bryan-Ammaning, Ross, Gant, Holiday, etc.

I'm also a homer myself so I'd think Tennessee is pretty close to the top ten if not in it based on potential to be very good. That being said, there are several pretty big question marks that need to be answered so I understand why they are left off most everyone's list.

Name one that should be.

Florida meets the criteria you used to justify the inclusion of VT. well except they actually made the NCAA tournament and have a significantly better recruiting class coming in.

Not really. Malcolm Delaney is better than anyone on Florida's roster and Patric Young is the most overrated player in the '10 class. Florida will once again be a gutless team that guards nobody and chucks away.

obviously i think you're wrong but we'll see come the season who is correct. Tennessee did need a pretty remarkable Scottie Hopson turnaround jumper to avoid getting swept by the gutless chuckers this past season. i don't see any team in the SEC that should be favored over the gutless chuckers to win the conference this coming year.

What does them being the presumptive favorites in a mediocre to bad league have to do with them being in the top 10? More often than not, Donovan assembles a bunch candyasses. There's no Harvey or Rich Kids to change that this year. Just another bunch of Matt Walsh type frauds.

Hat, you called Cornell as a top 25 team before the season started last year. Who do you think will surprise everyone this year by consistently showing up in the top 25?

Princeton is going to be really good in the Ivy this year. Detroit is loaded enough to challenge Hayward less Butler in the Horizon. I think Wichita State will be in the top 25 for most of the season. Those are the three that immediately come to mind. Loyola Marymount will have their best team since Gathers/Kimble, too.

aside from Harvey being the 6th best player on the 99-00 team and no one knowing who the Rich Kids were before they won a championship, what does a team like VT and a chucker like Macolm Delaney who's never even been to the NCAAs have to make them a top 10 team?

could you break down our roster for me? i'm having trouble identifying the "candyasses".

Florida has absolutely no room to mention lucky game winning shots. Period.

The Billikens should be pretty good next year. They'll be the cinderalla come March 2011. I'm calling it now.

It's not really hard. Same as it is on most of Donovan's rosters. Presume everyone is a finesse playing coward, then wait for someone to show you they are the exception. Take Donnell Harvey, Al Horford, Jackwad Noah, and possibly then overweight U Haslam out of the equation and the presumption of vaginitis has always won out.
