The Truth Hurts

There is a a noticable improvement in the offense over last year. Hopefully a good group of players returning, Ainge, Coker, and hopefullly Meachem.

There is some reasons to be optimistic. Outside of the Arkansas game, UT has played a lot better this year.

This is exactly what I suspected the Fulmerites would turn to if things did not really turn around this year. Now we are supposed to base all our expectations for this season on what happened last year. What about 2004 and beyond? CPF said himself that last year was the "perfect storm". Unless you people are going to say that from here on out every season will be a "perfect storm" for UT then you have to judge this season based on the trends of UT football over the past few years. Right now the trend towards mediocrity is not being broken. Beat VU and UK by 20+ each and win a convincing victory against a quality opponent in bowl game and maybe I'll believe that there is some positive progress being made to carry into next year.

First of all I'm not a Fulmerite. I just think that all the fuss over a team that wasn't expected to compete for a National Championship this year anyway is ridiculous. This team has improved over last year. If we had this years Offense and last years Defense we would be near unbeatable. But graduation and injuries have taken it's toll. I expect UT to improve even more next year. If they don't then I'll jump on the anti Fulmer bandwagon.

OSU lost a huge portion of their awesome 2005 defense. Also, their offense struggled at times last year. I heard they were doing well this year. Big time programs are supposed to reload.

We need to have a big year in recruiting if we're going to get back to the top of the SEC anytime soon.

If you consider this a crap season then maybe you need to find another team to follow, because history says your gonna be disappointed more than not.

Why follow a team that doesn't bring you any joy?

Congratulations Rex, you've officially been targeted as a "Negavol". If you are too derogatory in describing the current football program on the hill, the Fulmerite brownshirt stormtroopers come after you with a vengence, trying too run you off.

Boy,you need to be re-educated, so repeat after me:

baaaaa, baaaaa, Neyland good, Fulmer better, baaaa, baaaaaa

baaaaa, baaaaaa, Remember 1998, baaaaaa, baaaaa

baaaaa, baaaaaa, We're within five points of being 10-1, baaaa, baaaaa

That's better than waking up every day hating life because you don't know enough about football to understand how much of a turn around 2006 has been from 2005.

Turnaround from beating 1 good SEC team to beating no good SEC teams.

Rex is not a negaVol . . . He is a new category - "PlagaVol" . . . a fan with a cloudy outlook who gets caught cutting and pasting too much.

Ummm, a one pont loss to Florida and a 4 point last second loss to LSU.........

I know the Arkansas game was bad, but come on.

It's not as bad as some of you would like everyone to believe, and not as rosy as some of you all think that I believe.

That's true. However, I still don't feel like the Vols can stay on the field against the new big dogs of the SEC.

Like who? When you say "stay on the field" it sounds like we are getting hammered every time we play in a big game . . . and that's not the case.

I felt extremely lucky to be that close to Florida. It seemed as if they were pushing us around pretty badly. DeShawn Wynn looked like Herschel Walker, Chris Leak looked like Dan Marino. We were also fortunate to get 4 gifts from Russell in the LSU game. You might see the game differently, but I thought we had a lot of breaks go our way in those two games. I felt like Bama played the Vols' role in our game against them. They got a lot of breaks, but it still seemed like UT was controlling the game, even when we were behind. I really never was concerned that we would lose.

It took a passel of turnovers to keep us in the game against LSU at home. Our O-Line was manhandled by the three best defenses we've played. Until we make major improvement on both fronts, we may stay close, but we're not beating any top notch teams.

Herschel Walker? I think not. (I've seen what Walker did to us in person. Believe me it was much worse.) Look . . . Florida did out play us, but come on. They scored 21 points all night long and Dan Mari . . .errrrr.....Chris Leak kept finding ways to bog down drives once he got into our territory.

LSU I will grant you was a turnover or two away from beating us to death . . . but they didn't.

How much you lose by means nothing to me. Lou Holtz lost all kinds of close games at South Carolina. Is that what we want UT to be, valiant losers?

That's why I said we caught a lot of breaks. That should be enough to win, but it wasn't. Had we not gotten some breaks in those games, it could have been really ugly.

I still contend that FL can be thrown on. But we tried to take our worst run blocking team ever and line up and run it right at the strength of their team.

When we did try and throw it, we were successful.

I blame our plan more and more everyday for the FL loss.

Werent we winning the until the 4th quater?

That's what the scoreboard said, but based on how I saw Florida look against us, I did not feel for one second that our lead was secure. In fact, I was somewhat amazed that we were winning.

Agreed. Tennessee attempted to run out the clock when they went up 10, and couldn't do it. They should have kept the heat on.
