The UConn Postgame Report

But notice the second number. 6. He didn't force things. Didn't have it going, and realized it.

That's what a good point guard does.

Cam played really well today, like you said he didn't force things like he has been and he came up with some big time 3's. Has to shoot better from the line though, but a solid performance.

It was a blessing to keep those two beasty post players in foul trouble most of the game. At the end of the day, that was the difference. Way to go Vols. Huge win!

I guess my only point is that some nights he will have it going. Add Stokes to the mix and I like our chances vs most anyone.

Definitely an unexpected win, but the effort was there again on defense and better ball possession and decisions on offense. That's the difference maker for this team presently, better decisions and execution on offense. Defensively, this team is fun to watch. Richardson, especially, just wish he could refine his offensive game and he would be quite a player. His defensive game is very strong -- there's not a single wing player in college that he could not shut down right now.

Great win. Now, we need to pull off a crazy finish in the SEC to make the Dance.

I thought there several opportunities when Tatum and a couple other guards pulled the ball out instead of taking a three, showing great poise and much better shot selection. Didn't get in a rush when the game was in full force, it was nice to see.

I do not see how anyone could have doubted coach martin considering his resume as a player and coach. And his understanding of the game is just amazing. When I listen to his interview's he blows me away with the detail he gives when other coaches will give generic krap coach speak. I was willing to wait a couple years to see if he could get it done, but he has already proven that he has what it takes.

Totally agree. I like seeing games where Trae has single digit shots, especially now that we have multiple threats in the post.

=========================

Speed. Power. Smarts. Touch. Doesn't sweat.

Barnes = Elite.

you obviously are a nc fan because those are the only people that would take barnes #1 in the draft. even rational nc fans realize that he isnt a #1 pick, hell he may not even be the first guy drafted on his team honestly.

just flat out an uneducated post.

Tatum must have been living right after seeing that Bank Shot 3 he hit in the 1st half. He's such a streak shooter that probably gave him some confidence early on. Without Tatum picking up the slack from Golden's lack of offense, we don't win today.

1. A wonderful win. This game shows that Cuonzo Martin can coach with the big boys. And to be able to pick his team up after such a tough loss after Wednesday is commendable. Great job Coach.

2. Cam Tatum played well today. It's like a see-saw with him, but hey, you take what you get when it's good.

3. It's quite obvious that the offense should run through Jarnell Stokes, and then Jeronne Maymon. That's Tennessee's best bet.

4. Josh Richardson gave Jeremy Lamb all he could today. That was a really good job, and a great team performance on Lamb, a lottery pick. He worked for everything.

5. Despite his lack of scoring, I thought Golden did a good job today. Had six assists, only two turnovers with a ton of pressure that UConn imposed, and good job on Napier. Golden did well.

6. Jarnell Stokes has that "IT" factor. He outplayed the most likely #1 pick in the 2012 NBA draft. And in his third career game. Not too mention after sucking at the line, he hit two big ones down the stretch. He has everything.

7. This defense is starting to become dominant. That was a great performance and exactly what Coach Martin wants. That is the future of Tennessee basketball, and personally, I love it.

8. With this win, you now have the big OOC win you were lacking. The tourney chances are slim. You beat Vandy, and now you've got the hardest part of the schedule out of the way and came out alive. I'm very excited about Tuesday's game.

9. You have to hit free throws down the stretch. They got somewhat lucky in that department. 10 point lead with three minutes to go and UConn got a last second chance to tie it. Can't have that.

10. Great win for the program on a national stage. UConn's a very good team. Just like the Florida game, this shows that the team can beat anyone on the country with defense.

It's great to be a Tennessee Volunteer!!! :hi:

1. i was very curious to see the backbone of this team after the UGA game, very easy to give up and throw it in. Kudos to Cuonzo.

2. cameron played probably his best game. 3 assists 0 turnovers in 30 minutes, 15 points on 5-8 shooting. what more could you ask for.

3. absolutely agree 100%. ball needs to hit the post every trip down just about.

4. josh continues to prove why he is out there starting, and is an example of the defense ccm wants. when his offense is going like it did early thats a bonus.

5. what more could people ask for you want a true pg check him out: 36 minutes 2 points 0-4 shooting 6 assists 2 turnovers and 3 steals. would you like to see the shot fall yes, but hey you want a true pg that doesnt score and distribute here you go. ft need to fall though i will say that.

6. stokes is a man. not really much you can say about the kid he just continues to improve and progress. seems to be feeling more and more comfortable.

7. the defense continues to play how ccm wants. he wants under 60 they get 57, he wants fg % under 40 they shoot 36%, he wants 3pt fg% under 30 they shoot 33%. they are playing CCM defense and its paying off and showing everyone you play defense and rebound you can beat anybody.

8. with this win it makes the uga and all the other bad losses hurt even more. this team looks more and more tourney ready, but it may be too little too late.

9. no excuse for the free throw debacle, that has to be fixed with the amount of close games we'll be in.

10. if nothing else comes from this year some of these national spotlight wins will look great to recruits.

The crowd was the best I have seen since the FL or KY game last year. It was really loud in the arena today. Stokes basically took over at one point in the 2nd half and basically was not going to be denied. On another note, Jalen Steele (ex- Knoxville Fulton HS player) has 5 3 pointers for Miss. St. in a game at Vandy on ESPN2 right now. THink we could use him? Definitely one Pearl missed on.

I'm very happy about the crowd was worried after the uk incident that we wouldn't have a sell out. Way to go vol fans.

I remember Steele being a hit topic around here whether pearl should or shouldn't recruit the guy.

Fantastic win. I couldn't watch it, but dvr'd it. Plan on watching it tonight.

Outside of our free throw shooting, we played a solid game.

Candy is going to be tough. I hope we have our edge because they'll come out hungry after losing at home.
