The ultimate meltdown...

Why does anyone think Manning can coach? Or want to?

I can't imagine that many 18-22 year olds would be able to keep up with what Manning would expect of them.

"Class my A$$!! You skip class if you have to, to watch these 137 hours of game film before tomorrow!"

Peyton cares about UT and Vol fans. He wouldn't come to Kville under the guise of interest in a coaching job and then say thanks but no thanks.

Guys, if Tee's wife didn't want to relocate do u not think that was known before they got here. I think we have to understand, a lot of players do not really respect the university. Instead, they believe the university is only a stepping stone to another career.

In Tee's case, I think he knows it will help him recruit in TN and the south for SEC teams to be offering him jobs and it will get him a raise or other job opportunities.

You all know what Tee did here and you all know Peyton wouldn't do the same. Tee will come back if he has no other place to go.
Maybe tee wanted to coach here last year and was turned down by our former coach and current ad. Then he got a good job at a big school and made a name for himself pretty quick and didnt want to betray the people who gave him his shot when his own university wouldnt. Maybe the university shouldve stood by tee like some fans think tee should stand by the university. They dont want ya when you are the wr coach at uk but a year later youve coached a biletnikoff winner and have proven yourself a damn good recruiter and they expect you to be at their beckon call.

Yeah, maybe Tee is butt hurt about Drools overlooking him. Maybe he and always will be resentful that Peyton gets all the love but he won the NC. Maybe he thinks he could have taken several schools to the NC.

Whatever the reason, Tee is not so much interested in UT.

Yes, I agree, that's my point. He doesn't care much about UT or UT fans like me and you. I'm not faulting him, he is doing what he thinks is best for Tee. That is why he made such a big deal out of the whole thing. More press for Tee. More money for Tee. Better recruiting for Tee. It was all about Tee.

What?? How is that a lack of respect?

Sometimes there's just the reality that your life has moved on, and you can't always go home again.

And there are plenty of people who are great players, but who can't coach, just as there are great coaches who weren't much as players. Knowing how to do it doesn't mean that you know how to teach/ motivate/ inspire it.

Peyton will just buy UT and do whatever he wants. "So let it be written, so let it be done...." Commish:bow2:

LOL if fans really think Peyton will be coming back to coach at UT then their collective meltdown will be a fun but sad thing to watch. I could be very wrong, but I really feel when Peyton retires he'll be taking a John Elway route. Owning businesses and working with the Colts or Broncos.

Interesting. I had a UT grad mention Manning coming as coach when he retires just last night at a christmas party. Gonna be rough up in here!

I actually hope that when this happens, it's the final straw for the lunatic faction of the fanbase and they disappear.

There is a benefit to all this hystia. It is that it outs the lunatic fringe. It is really handy to find out who they are as sometimes even the biggest nut job can hide it for a while and then... "I heard that ..." and they all lose their mind and let the world know they are igrnorant and insane. No one over 21 with any sense believes near half the crap that "someone" heard.
When Payton does retire it will go something like this..."I heard that Payton is interested in coaching the Vols and he wants to bring in Frank Caliendo (in his Madden voice of course) to run the offense and a hologram of General Neyland to run the defense. Man we are going to be able to recruit players out of the Hall of Fame with that staff..."
Mark it down.

I believe Manning has said, more than a few times, he does not want to coach.

I seem to recall Peyton once said he doesn't like the fact that college coaches must devote months every year to recruiting. Can anyone confirm this?

Why does anyone think Manning can coach? Or want to?

Because, by all accounts, he has been a coach the past 6-7 years of his career. It's true that not all great players can transition into becoming great coaches, but considering how cerebral Manning's game is, I think it's inevitable he becomes a great coach, should he choose to take that route.

There are many players who have more natural talent than Manning, but it's his mind that sets him apart. His mind will make him a great coach, imo.

Of course, it all hinges on what he wants to do after his playing career concludes. I tend to lean toward him taking a few years off to be a dad, but eventually the itch to be involved in football will become too hard to ignore.

I just hope his kid becomes PM 2.0 w/legs, and plays 4 years for UT.
