That looks pretty slick. My buddy has a tent hammock I have used. They are cool but also literally cool. In all seasons but dead of summer it's easy to get cold. The hammock style requires just 2 trees but even it can require some maneuvering and a lot of rope because they need to be x distance to work well.
I have never gone the hammock route, but these are straight up tents that hang. You can wrap the fly around the bottom for extra warmth like a cocoon.
It sounds slick. You should get one so I can borrow it. I love camp gadgets. I'll stick to the ground. I don't like wet but I like keeping my body heat next to me. You should try one of the hammocks once especially warm weather. It's neat and pretty lightweight.
I can't justify the cost and use right now, but it is on my list of stuff to buy. I would use it more when kayak touring. Makes much more sense to load it into a kayak and stay above the cotton mouths.
That's a good point. I don't do a lot of float trips so I hadn't thought of that. Would keep bugs from crawling in too. I could see a scout or me breaking my neck one morning climbing out. I don't understand how those rock climbers have the kahuna's to slip inside one hanging on a cliff wall.
I never got into that mulititude of multipitch climbing. I do have my limits. The most multipitch climbing I have ever done was over the same day.
I don't like heights at all. I have and can repel if I talk myself into it. I enjoy most when I am back at the bottom. Mad respect for those that do it and love it but I ain't one. Never was that well balanced anyway and a lot of those guys are pretty sleight to make it easier. I don't fit the nimble or sleight profile.
