1. Hell yes! I'll gladly take a double digit road win against Vanderbilt even if we have ZERO wins on the season. I love kicking Vandy's ass, and I love winning at that dump of a gym.
2. Tennessee played their best game in two months, and Kenny Hall didn't play. I don't find this to be a coincidence.
3. Tennessee's defense was fantastic. Except for the first five minutes of the second half (when UT's D was away from Martin) they played spectacularly. Vanderbilt was lucky to get into the paint. UT did a great job switching with the four guard lineup. Quite simply, they moved their feet extremely well.
4. Bernard King Player of the Game: Jarnell Stokes. There are multiple candidates, but you can't go wrong with the big man. Didn't have a great shooting game, but he (again) controlled the boards, and manned the middle. Vandy was intimidated by him. They didn't stand a chance.
5. Trae Golden's first half was HUGE. He came out aggressive and made really nice plays around the paint. His second half wasn't good, but it was okay. He really came to play and that gave UT a huge confidence boost. Only two turnovers too. That was nice.
6. Quinton Chevious does things that don't get recognized in the box score. I like him getting playing time. Hit a really nice 3 that was a surprise and his D was helpful. When he's at the 4, his athleticism gives UT an advantage to switch screens with McRae and Richardson because he can play against guards. He gives UT a defensive weapon.
7. I was nervous about UT's rebounding playing with only four guards. McRae had 11 (ELEVEN!) and Golden had seven. That's all effort and want right there. My fears were alleviated.
8. The offense was great in the first half and that was because UT drove to the basket and did not settle for 3's. The Vols had better spacing tonight and it cleared the lane for Stokes and Golden.
9. UT shot eight free throws and won at Memorial. That's a small miracle in itself (Vandy only had six...talk about holding the whistle...I liked it).
10. A very nice win for UT. They might be turning a corner. They've won two straight road SEC games. That's not an easy feat. UT has a very nice chance for three straight and to beat Kentucky Saturday. This could be the game that gets UT back on track.
