Tonight was the first time I've really enjoyed watching us play in a while. Keep building steam and stay healthy...peak at the right time...and, who knows? Great to see Golden back in form and Stokes maturing.

2. Tennessee played their best game in two months, and Kenny Hall didn't play. I don't find this to be a coincidence.

I could not agree more. I hope CCM sticks with this lineup and puts Hall on a milk carton. NO reason to play him. Let the young guys develop and get some experience. I actually forgot about him until near the end of the game. CCM can say it was due to Candy's lineup to cover for Kenny, but we all know the writing's on the wall there.

Golden is the key. Must admit I didn't see 2 road wins coming, but Stokes is now officially a beast, Jordy Mac showed up again and Trae was once again Trae. Playing with a pretty good rhythm. If they can cut out the unforced silly turnovers they could have a pretty strong finish heading into the tourney.

One thing Tennessee knows how to do is kick the $h!t out of Vandy. Great game...Go Vols!

6. Quinton Chevious does things that don't get recognized in the box score. I like him getting playing time. Hit a really nice 3 that was a surprise and his D was helpful. When he's at the 4, his athleticism gives UT an advantage to switch screens with McRae and Richardson because he can play against guards. He gives UT a defensive weapon.
Noticed his defense during the game - he really gets low to the floor and moves his feet well. Much better D than a lot of our guys

10. A very nice win for UT. They might be turning a corner. They've won two straight road SEC games. That's not an easy feat. UT has a very nice chance for three straight and to beat Kentucky Saturday. This could be the game that gets UT back on track.

A little concerning about scoring only 18 points in the second half - we really benefited from their top scorer's shoulder injury. He was not the same player in the second half.

James Franklin walked by my friends and I pregame with a pack of 2014 recruits. In good Vol fashion we chanted to the recruits "It's great to be a TN Vol" and "Come to the real TN school guys". We were all proudly sporting our bUTch Please shirts. I think it pissed Franklin offed by his gestures so my work here is done:)

Didn't the game go like 7+ minutes without out a whistle? It was refreshing to see the officials a non factor.

There were about 15 or more recruits. They all walked down the front row of student section and were fist pumping with fans. Franklin looked like a superstar in the fans eyes. It made me sick. I've been in Nashville 12 years and have never seen Vandy out do UT in attendance. The Vandy bandwaggoners are in Bama full force. Hopefully Butch can change this.

1. Hell yes! I'll gladly take a double digit road win against Vanderbilt even if we have ZERO wins on the season. I love kicking Vandy's ass, and I love winning at that dump of a gym.

2. Tennessee played their best game in two months, and Kenny Hall didn't play. I don't find this to be a coincidence.

3. Tennessee's defense was fantastic. Except for the first five minutes of the second half (when UT's D was away from Martin) they played spectacularly. Vanderbilt was lucky to get into the paint. UT did a great job switching with the four guard lineup. Quite simply, they moved their feet extremely well.

4. Bernard King Player of the Game: Jarnell Stokes. There are multiple candidates, but you can't go wrong with the big man. Didn't have a great shooting game, but he (again) controlled the boards, and manned the middle. Vandy was intimidated by him. They didn't stand a chance.

5. Trae Golden's first half was HUGE. He came out aggressive and made really nice plays around the paint. His second half wasn't good, but it was okay. He really came to play and that gave UT a huge confidence boost. Only two turnovers too. That was nice.

7. I was nervous about UT's rebounding playing with only four guards. McRae had 11 (ELEVEN!) and Golden had seven. That's all effort and want right there. My fears were alleviated.

8. The offense was great in the first half and that was because UT drove to the basket and did not settle for 3's. The Vols had better spacing tonight and it cleared the lane for Stokes and Golden.

9. UT shot eight free throws and won at Memorial. That's a small miracle in itself (Vandy only had six...talk about holding the whistle...I liked it).

10. A very nice win for UT. They might be turning a corner. They've won two straight road SEC games. That's not an easy feat. UT has a very nice chance for three straight and to beat Kentucky Saturday. This could be the game that gets UT back on track.

Hate to be negative Nancy.....but you left McBrick out of your summary. I wish Cuonzo could do the same.

F Vandy!

Thanks for the write up zjcvols! I was at Gnashvegas tonight and kept up with the score. I couldn't believe we held a double digit lead pretty much from when I looked at the 3 minute mark left of the 1st half until the end of the game. I said that Stokes, McRae and Golden needed to show up and all three did in a big way. Kudos to those guys!

Gotta watch it on the DVR, but damnation, it's great to sweep the Candy Commode-dores and even better that Jimmy Frank got to see it! LMFAO!!!!!!

And it's damn funny how the haters, Debbie Downers and Legions of the Miserable never seem to make their way here after a win. I wonder why? Can you say pathetic? Sure you can.

Grow a pair.

The Good...

I've been as hard/harder on Kenny Hall as anyone else, and this is why. We are a better team when he's not playing, and I don't care what numbers suggest otherwise. Losing him will be addition by subtraction. Only thing we will miss is his height.

Maybe its the gym configuration, and he is more visible because of that, but I saw more coaching and intensity out of CCM in this game than I have in all the others combined this year. He really got after it last night.

It was nice to see the Golden of old last night, esp the first half. The second half hurt his shooting numbers a bit, but he did other things well to compensate, like rebound and push the ball. He made a couple bad decisions too, but they aren't nearly as glaring in a 12-point road win. His first half is exactly what he needs to be every game.

Stokes has really grown up over the course of the season, and no longer looks like the kid who NEEDS Maymon in there for him to be effective. He has learned how to fight through double-teams and kick the ball out of them as well. His effort level has shot way up in light of his newfound confidence to boot.

Richardson just does everything well. He scores, passes, rebounds, and defends at a high level. I have so much confidence in any shot he takes from 15 feet and in. His midrange game is so refreshing in a sport that has become dominated by three's and dunks. He is just a very smart player who is a jack of all trades.

McRae had a big confidence boosting game. I like that he didn't allow a slow start to affect him either. This is the kind of game he typically checks out of mentally, and finishes 1-9 with 5 TOs after a slow start, but he kept his head up, kept fighting, and finished strong with a double-double.

The best offensive half, and most offensively-sound half I can remember. We followed it up with a snoozer in the second half, but we clamped down defensively, and stole one from a place that few teams are able to win. I don't care if Vandy is down a bit. A win on the road is a win on the road, and they are scarce.

The Bad... (short list)

Skylar can't defend anyone consistently. If he's not hitting from deep, he is an indisguiseable liability on both ends.

Second half was sloppy and we looked every bit the team that was ready to blow a big opportunity with TOs, bad decisions and selfish play offensively. Fortunately, we reined it it before it got out of hand.

Thanks for the write up. Wasn't able to see/hear the game and looked forward to coming in to the office and reading your report. How was Moore's game anyone?

Moore played very well until the first 5 minutes of 2nd half. Had 2 very quick fouls and at least 2 more TOs and didn't see the court again.

On a side note he looks 20lbs heavier to me. Has he put on that much weight??

Possibly trying to? Maybe told a position change dictated it? Love his athleticism but scares me at point.
