The Vandymania message board is calling for them to checkerboard Vanderbilt Stadium

Ha. I’m a Vandy grad (class of 78) yet a lifelong die hard Tennessee fan. They will never get enough fans in the stadium to checkerboard it. Tennessee could probably do it there, however.
My parents are UTK undergrad, Vandy grad school and have always been diehard UT fans, that’s where I got it from (I was in Knoxville also for undergrad).. we are going to be there in our orange finest 😂

Moot point. There will be twice as much Orange in that stadium than there will be Black & Gold.
Vanderbilt is not capable of checkering their own student section.

Their alumni and students are generally not into football 😂 Currently Vanderbilt is more difficult to get into than Harvard, you need like a perfect ACT score and other checked boxes for admission.. usually which don’t tend to lean toward a football fanbase lol (or normally functioning people for that matter).. my dad did his residency there, and my mom has a masters from Peabody.. those people are all work, no play 😂

He was going to leave anyway, but I have read the final straw for James Franklin at Vandy was the fact that after taking them to 3 straight bowls, back to back 9-4 seasons, 2-1 against Tennessee and 2-1 in bowl games, they were struggling to get 30K Vandy fans to show up to games. I know he was especially ticked off at the UK and Wake Forest home games. He made a comment about how disrespectful that there were only about 15K in attendance for the Senior Day activities considering it was the best performing senior class in modern history.

I'm sorry, but I'm just not going to pile on Vanderbilt of all schools. I think we are way beyond that at this point, aren't we?

Not even close. They suck but they are still a rival. And just like UK football, after they got a small taste of fortune it quickly went to their heads.

Also if you went to a Vandy home basketball game in the 80s or 90s, especially when they played UT, you'd hate them forever.

I don’t blame him 😂

I think what's being overlooked for all this checkerboard talk is the weather. Early in the year, everyone can afford to plunk down 10 or 15 bucks to get the proper colored shirt for their section. But I think most of us are locked into a winter/cold weather coat or jacket that's more than likely a neutral color. It's a much bigger ask to checker a stadium at the end of November.

My dad was a UTK grad thanks to the GI Bill. Class of 1950. He started taking me to games when I was 8. Best days of my life as a kid

Vandy fan support is a joke-period. I think someone in the media needs to absolutely challenge Clark Lea on his statements at SEC media days. He said, “But it’s because of their support that we’re aiming to build the best football program in the country at Vanderbilt University, where we have the best school in the best city in the best conference with the best facilities on the horizon.”
What?!?! Best program and best facilities?!?!?! The only thing true in that statement is “best conference” someone should seriously ask questions like, what does having the best facilities look like? Best facilities compared to what? What do you specifically mean by best football program in the country? They’ve never even won 1 SEC title!!! Is this a 30 year rebuild? Are they going to invest like a billion dollars in facilities-seriously! This guy has spoken way over his head and will have to answer for this at some point. But it is vandy so no one really notices.

It would actually be fun if they did it. All black and gold checkers... and UT boat racing them on the field. What a complete embarrassment that would be.

I hate to defend a Vandy guy but I mean....what do you want him to say? That's basically just coach speak that everyone says. You don't crap on your employer. Did he go overboard? Sure, but again that's better than him saying "We suck, we've always sucked, so what do you want from me?"
