The vast majority of this staff is absolutely amazing

I'll make a deal with you ass-hats who continue to call for coaches to be fired in spite of the fact that we're 7-0 with four Top 25 victories, including a Top 5 win over our most hated rival.

Here's the deal. You shut the F up about firing any of our coaches, and just wait two years.

If at the end of Heupel & Co's fourth season our defensive secondary isn't one of the strengths of our team, then I'll join you in calling for pink slips to be handed out.

But I am pretty positive that won't need to happen.

It is precisely this short-fused readiness to throw coaches to the curb that got us into the Dark Ages in the first place. We do NOT want to return there, so leave Josh Heupel's coaching staff the hell alone!

Complete and utter morans. Butt-heads. Cancers among our fan base, and curses to our program.

I hope I've made it fairly clear how I feel. If not, let me know and I'll be blunter.

Go Vols!
Soon?

I kid, I kid. I'll show myself the door.

Yea the people asking for Martinez to be fired doesn’t understand defense. Josh huepel will keep who he thinks is an asset to him. Luckily the fans don’t decide coaching hires/fires.
Uh, sometimes they do.......remember Schiano Sunday? Rarely the fans just stand as one and get it done.

lol we are in year two of a 'rebuild'. also had a ton of injuries in secondary. i think we're fine.
Year one and a half of the rebuild.... And yet these clowns wanted to fire the d coordinator after the Florida game and now the d-backs coach... 7-0 folks. Let that marinate...with little to no talent in the secondary. Look at the recruiting. We won't be below average back there for long..

Oh wow what a post just chock full of informative stuff. Yes we are 7-0 with 4 top 25 wins and one of those top 3. If you think our secondary is one of the main reasons for that then I have a bridge to sell you.

7-0. #1 offense in the nation. #1 scoring offense. Heisman QB. One of the best WR corps in the nation. Now please tell us how our secondary has really done anything to help with our record.

We were not a national title contender or an SEC title contender preseason. That was because of a general lack of 4 & 5 star talent. Particularly in the secondary.

Nothing magically changed halfway through the season. The change will come in recruiting. Bringing in bigger, better and faster players will make a difference. Until then, there will be marginal change at best. We will win on offense this year. That's why I'm more concerned with our offensive line play than our secondary.

Nobody is running the ball well on us. And then they get behind, so running is out of the equation anyway. Teams are going to get some yards. Particularly a team with a good qb. We faced some of the best and actually the best in Bryce Young.

I ain't firing nobody. Sorry. We are just getting started. I just hope no one on the staff takes another job after the season. Continuity breeds excellence.

For those calling to fire Martinez, I understand that our secondary gives up a lot of yards and is the weakest unit on our defense. Other people have pointed out he is an amazing recruiter, that we have numerous injuries, that our talent and depth is not comparable to top SEC defenses, and that teams pass against us more not only to attack the secondary, but because they literally have to after we get them playing catch-up with us.

All of those are valid and compelling reasons to my mind, but there is another that I think is more important: our guys have gotten better at what they do over the course of the season. The Florida game aside, wouldn’t you agree that since then they’ve shown improvement?

I’m pretty sure that Martinez can coach and develop a secondary. I know he can recruit one.

Here is how other teams have passed against us:

Ball State: 269
Pitt: 274
Akron: 241
Florida: 453
LSU: 300
Alabama: 455

Florida was bad, but we played much better the following week. Alabama put up a bunch but they had a literal Heisman quarterback. Not we-made-them-look-like-heisman-quarterback, but an actual Heisman winning qb. We also were fielding anyone we could find to play secondary toward the end.

I’m not worried about Martinez.

I've been a Heupel fan since the Texas game in 00' , but I wasn't thrilled about his hiring as our coach, just due to his limited HC experience. Lucky for us , he's as good a coach as he was a qb.
He impressed me from his time at Missouri, he had them beating people they really shouldn’t have when he was there

I gotta be honest, when Heupel was hired I didn’t know who he was. I was like, oh great another google coach. And I had reservations about him. But I had even more reservations when I saw he brought several assistants from UCF with him. But man, I don’t think we give enough credit to this staff. Minus Martinez, this staff is amazing. Even BJM has been impressive this year. I mean year two undefeated and in the top 5??? Crazy. I am getting more and more confident that we beat Georgia in two weeks.
I just don’t get why Martinez stays employed. He’s coached terrible secondaries for decades. Going back to UGA in the 90’s.

Have the last 2 seasons not proven to all of you “give (x) coach 4 years before firing him” or “you can’t just fire a coach after 2-3 years” nitwits that it doesn’t take that long to see significant progress and have success? The willingness to fire Pruitt after 3 years when it was blatantly obvious he wasn’t going to get the job done is why we’re at where we are.

If we didn’t have the best offensive mind in football along with a QB that will likely be a finalist for the Heisman this would be an average football team at best. Our secondary is that bad, and we will most certainly see a significant drop off in offensive production next year with Hooker leaving. It’s easy to shrug off how bad our defensive backfield is when we’re scoring 40 a game in SEC play, but that’s not going to happen next year and our secondary will likely cost us multiple games.

Defending running QBs and LB play along with pressuring the QB was a huge weakness for us last year. We added zero players at those positions and now those are our strengths. In the SEC you’re either getting better or you’re getting worse and we are by no means getting better at corner. Giving Martinez 4 years at the current rate of development we’re seeing is absolutely preposterous. He should be coaching for his job next season if he’s even retained
I think Milton will exceed your expectations..,,,,,

I think he’ll be alright, but we’re getting all time great QB play right now. There’s no way he comes close to matching what Hooker is doing based on what he’s shown so far. The instincts and decision making just aren’t there and it’s obvious by watching him against backups

This has nothing to do with Martinez. It’s got to do with scheme and depth. Our game plan is to send creative blitz packages and have DBs keep everything in front of them in zone. If the team gets near the red zone, we go 0 man and send even more heat. We use our side of the field as a defensive tool. It’s a balls to the wall defense that may not work well against QBs like B. young and Anthony Richardson because they can buy just enough time to get a receiver open. By the 3rd quarter our defense is gassed because of depth and our offense scoring very fast, meanwhile the opponent is throwing nearly every down due to playing from behind. This isn’t a winning equation for the other team IF our offense keeps scoring. That’s why towards the latter part of the game it seems as if our defense is not getting those 3 and outs like they were the first one or two drives of the game. So if we get QUALITY depth, this will help us tremendously. Give them time. It’s year 2 without their players that they recruited.

Get rid of Martinez and replace him with someone competent and we can really go places. Would've beat Bama, Florida and Pitt by a lot.

Saw a post game clip of CJH with his arm around Martinez's shoulder, so I am guessing his analysis of this coach is a bit different and weighted based on the output from the talent available. But what does he know? Maybe he does not want to see the current commits list vaporize.

Sorry but z Martinez is the DB coach and they can’t cover.

Yes he has. But he has been terrible here this time around.
Or he hasn’t had much talent to work with.
I suspect a little of both.
But coaching revolving door method,
Well, that worked out really well for Pruitt 😂😂😁😂.
Recruiting for the position seems to be picking up nicely so definitely not the time to let him go.
