How many QBs were drafted ahead of him including 2Hs who was drafted arlound 50 players better? As long as Smart is coach at UGA he'll do a decent job of nationally recruiting quality QBs and then find a way to put a mediocre Georgia kid in front of them like Bennett. Bennett's two NCs were won in spite of him as he was the weakest link of the 22 starting players imo. LOL

Ok. They still have two championships the last two years. I don’t think my QB being mediocre and not a high draft pick would bother me.

Obviously he was mediocre and the weakest link. It’s not as if he won offensive MVP in four straight CFB playoff appearances.

Yet he owned our Vols. There're ways to cope but this ain't it.

Weak points. If I'm Kirby Smart, my counterpoint is:

I just took an undersized two star walk on and turned him into a 2x national championship, and then he got drafted by the NFL...ahead of all but 5 other quarterbacks in America.

I got no problem with Bennett or his place in the draft.

Mainly because the title of the thread is wrong: he was never really "vaunted." Not by the Georgia program or fan base, not by the national media, not by the NFL scouts. Very few people in the world ever talked him up.

Polar opposite treatment from, say, an over-hyped and mediocre performer like Will Levis.

Everyone in the world, included Stetson himself, knew folks' expectations for him weren't very high.

And yet his performances, when I watched him play (usually against us) were solid, mostly mistake free, business-like. And he won championships.

No, I think the world is better off with more Stetson Bennetts and fewer Will Levises, rather than the other way around.

But mostly, more Hendon Hookers.

Go Vols!

He pretty much torched us. Just saying. Spencer Rattler too. I'll acknowledge that and hope next season both teams (and Bama too) suck at QB.

College talent does not always translate to NFL talent. Glad the boy is on the left coast - he'd make a nice playtoy for some high powered Hollywood Elitist.

That seems like a waste of a pick. I know it's a 4th rounder, but still. I could see 6th or 7th round, but not 4th.

The fact that he's small isn't insurmountable, but the fact that it's on top of being 26 years old (or he will be during the season), not having much arm strength, and that he still seems pretty immature ... and then you have to factor in that his stats look very good in part because he played on a completely loaded team across the board.

I can't see him making it in the NFL.

You make some good points about why he is a risk, but honestly day 3 quarterbacks are usually risks. One thing I would add though is that he did throw at the combine with the same velocity as Will Levis who is supposed to have the greatest arm ever, so that probably assuaged alot of fears about his arm. I think a lot of people always assumed he was weak armed because he was a walk on. I never saw it as weak when I watched him play. And he has great instincts about when to use his feet. He always reminded me of a white version of Joe Hamilton who played at GT when they were decent in the late 90's. Undersized, but sneaky athletic and a gamer. I have been told Bennett was more like 5'9" when he graduated high school, so he got a little taller in college and that probably helped him exceed his expectations a good bit.

Outside of Bowers, what other elite skill player do you see on the 2022 UGA roster? AD Mitchell? Maybe but he was sidelined most of the yr with injuries. Washington was unique and will do well as a blocking TE in the NFL but he's not a guy that DCs fear. I don't think you'll find many Tenn fans that would have swapped receiver rooms with UGA.

Honestly from what all of the draft pundits were saying it’s higher than I thought he’d go.

imagine needing overall team speed, soecifically needing a dynamic playmaker at WR. Having a QB that fits your QB need, leadership, mobility, at a discount...

And you draft Will Levis, no WR, and 0 playmakers.🤦🏼‍♂️

Is the LOL at the end pointed towards GA/Smart, or at yourself? Because, this is probably the most disconnected from reality post that I have read here in a while. And that's saying something.

I know its a rivalry thing to criticize opposing players, but you're supposed to talk them up after they're finished. Like this, "Georgia's offense is in big trouble next season. No way those bums they have returning in the QB room can do the things Stetson Bennett did."
