The vaunted Stetson Bennett makes the draft at #128.

How about the QB at TCU....Duggin or something like that. Seems he didn't impress that many teams either. Both Stetson and Duggin looked better in the games I saw than Will Levis who the " experts" thought would go in the top 4 picks

I got no problem with Bennett or his place in the draft.

Mainly because the title of the thread is wrong: he was never really "vaunted." Not by the Georgia program or fan base, not by the national media, not by the NFL scouts. Very few people in the world ever talked him up.

Polar opposite treatment from, say, an over-hyped and mediocre performer like Will Levis.

Everyone in the world, included Stetson himself, knew folks' expectations for him weren't very high.

And yet his performances, when I watched him play (usually against us) were solid, mostly mistake free, business-like. And he won championships.

No, I think the world is better off with more Stetson Bennetts and fewer Will Levises, rather than the other way around.

But mostly, more Hendon Hookers.

Go Vols!
I would agree he's lights out better than Levis. And there were a couple games where Georgia was about to lose and he kept composed and squeaked out a win.

He landed at an opportune location though with Stafford's skills dropping quite a bit last year. He could get his shot as a starter this year.

That seems like a waste of a pick. I know it's a 4th rounder, but still. I could see 6th or 7th round, but not 4th.

The fact that he's small isn't insurmountable, but the fact that it's on top of being 26 years old (or he will be during the season), not having much arm strength, and that he still seems pretty immature ... and then you have to factor in that his stats look very good in part because he played on a completely loaded team across the board.

I can't see him making it in the NFL.
Yet the Titans wasted a higher pick on Will Levis, the supposed top 3 pick that got made to look bad by Vandy.

How old is Hooker again? NVM I know. The same Stetson stats looks good because of the team is the same excuse people try to say Hookers stats looks good because of the system.

Honestly, I’d rather the titans taken Stetson than Levis. I’m so mad at the titans still after that pick

I wouldn't and I honestly think this is a crazy comment. I'm not saying Levis will succeed, but he was pretty good at Kentucky in a bad situation: bad O-line and terrible OC. My issue with Levis is that I don't think he makes good enough decisions; too many turnovers, but I'd bet on him figuring it out, before I'd bet on Bennett looking anywhere nearly as good against NFL level players and while not being surrounded by elite talent on both sides of the ball.

Two Nattys back to back vs a guy that couldn’t do anything against Vandy and makes bad choices. A half baked Vols team also beat KY in ‘21 KY good season. Levis still had to make those passes crazy all the copium that Levis is getting now

Bennett wins nothing behind the Oline Kentucky had thought either. No idea if Georgia would’ve been better or not with Levis. I would however argue Hooker, or Young on that Georgia team would’ve beat the hell out of every team they played and it would’ve never been close. Bennett is a gamer but I don’t think he succeeds without superior talent everywhere around him.

It's rare that I find myself rooting against the underdog, but I am in this case. Add Levis to this list also.

Dern Rams picking him in the fourth lost me a bet with a Bama buddy. Now I’m going to have to wear something with the mullet A on it when I thought I’d be making him wear some checkerboard overalls. 😑
What in the world are you betting with a Bama fan about a Georgia player for? Sounds like there's a story there.

How many QBs were drafted ahead of him including 2Hs who was drafted arlound 50 players better? As long as Smart is coach at UGA he'll do a decent job of nationally recruiting quality QBs and then find a way to put a mediocre Georgia kid in front of them like Bennett. Bennett's two NCs were won in spite of him as he was the weakest link of the 22 starting players imo. LOL

Bennett was a winner. Not anywhere close to a great player but he fit what Georgia wanted to do and he was just a winner. Disagree he was mediocre. He was competent enough to take the players around him and lead them to NCs. QBs still have to be the leaders on offense...

Initially a walkon at Georgia he transferred to junior college for one year to get experience. Then Georgia signed him and the rest is history. When you have tons of elite players all over the field, you can take a smart QB who knows what to do and not get you beat and win National Championships.

Kid deserves a lot of credit, IMO

He kept saying that Bennett would be a first rounder just to get under my skin. So I said let’s bet; if he goes in the first four you win, if he goes later or undrafted I win. Thought it was in the bag…

Was/Is He better than Manzel ?! No. I expect a similar pro career with far fewer snaps, and a little less alcohol.

Remember one thing: Bennett practiced against future NFL players every single week.

No that is a stupid question? Low self esteem, I take it…. Diminishing an opponent who just beat you a couple of times makes one seem pretty small…

My self esteem is just fine bud. I’m sure Stetson nor any Georgia bulldogs were hurt by my statement but I’m sure Stetson’s really glad you’re here to defend his honor.
