The Walking Dead

Whenever I feel like TV special effects today are bad:

Was 2 good sized Walker groups from either side of the bridge. Too many for the 2 to fight.
I am more upset that they let themselves get caught like that. I took the van falling and Walker Lemmings as comic relief. I did actually laugh out loud when it started raining Walkers:)

I admit the zombie rain was humorous but at what cost? A little bit of quality maybe.

What writer on the show decided to put some humor into series anyway? Between Eugene's self help section and zombie rain that's twice they've lightened the mood. I accept more humor but don't let it come at the expense of offending the viewers logic.

Don't let your logic be so easily offended:)
No need to beat a dead Walker over this...

I personally think that their biggest mistake with the following than sequence was that they took the engine out of the van for "safety reasons" if they had left the engine in the van would've in all likelihood landed on its nose instead of the roof. That would've been much more realistic.however one or both of Carol and Daryl would've ended up with something broken from essentially a head on crash.
In every TV show, there are tons of editing and logic mistakes. My wife is a huge fan of grays anatomy and but I cannot watch it because the medicine is nowhere near realistic ( real medicine is kind of boring )

How did Carol not hear a car coming?
How could Noah really get the drop on Carol and Daryl?
How could they follow the Cross car and never be seen?
Lots of ?s, but I like the show too much to let that detract from my entertainment.

The van thing was just something I noticed in passing. I only posted that video here because of the outrage in this thread. In reality, their best chance of survival would've been if it hit nose first and fired the airbags, but you'd probably need a key in the ignition for that to happen.

I also wondered how they could tail the car so long and avoid detection. Especially when he sees the car being mobbed by zombies on a road that he had just driven down. He would've had to go around the car lol.

Having the engine in the van likely would've made it rotate more, because it would've increased the eccentricity of the upward force from the bridge, causing a faster rotation.

But that's neither here nor there.

The airbags DID fire, right? Thought I recalled Darryl kind of pushing the airbag away after impact.

I wonder what other fan bases have a thread dedicated to the Walking Dead on their sites. I bet not many.

Anyways, I thought that this episode was good not great, but at least things were moving. Knowing the outcome made it a little frustrating.

The van scene was not necessary and looked liked it was shot by the same crew that did Walker Texas Ranger back in the 90's.

Do other fanbases really matter? Their sites do not measure up to the VN standard by any stretch of the imagination :)

Even excellent production crews make mistakes...writers envisioned the scene, it sounded good on paper, but fell short of expectations. At that point, may have proceeded to stay in budget rather than go back to rewrite. Just my opinion, it happens.

Airbag deployed from the steering wheel, but did see one in front of Carol. Airbag sensor requires electricity, not sure about need for the key in the ignition...

The show is about a zombie Apocalypse. You kind of have to check logic and reality at the door.

One of the first rules of science fiction is that it's a given that real science will be ignored; but once you establish a standard, you have to stick to it. 5 seasons in I don't remember them having such a blantant violation of the laws of physics.

The point is that just because the premise is impossible that you automatically get to overlook everything. Even in the world they created, that was silly.

I mean if they started dodging bullets Matrix style, I highly doubt people would say "Oh it's cool, it's make believe."

But everyone knows you can't dodge bullets. The physics of the van fall is lost on a large part of the audience. A TV show is so long and drawn out that I can't afford to care about special effects that much. Special effects aren't why I started watching this show, and it's definitely not why I come back.

I'm just the type that cares more about errors in writing than special effects.

I agree with what you're saying, though. Batman can do impossible things like kidnap a dude in Shanghai with an airplane because they set up the universe that way. If Rick saved Coral that way, we'd all have a laugh.

It really just comes back to the scene being poorly shot. You see the nose tip forward, then switch to the interior where you see the ground coming straight at the windshield, then BOOM it lands upright.

If you guys hate it so much, why are you still watching the show? Seriously, I have never heard so much bellyaching over something so meaningless. It TV for goodness sakes.

Tux, I found a gif of you when you made this post.

Think about it.....you watch a show about zombies, who have reanimated from the dead and people bellyache about the reality of the physics of a car falling from a bridge....
