The WRASSLIN’ Thread

Watching Ospreay's last NJPW match. They did the rip up the canvas to expose the boards thing. It didn't work right. It was like the wood wasn't secured down. The boards were loose and they were falling through them. It looked really dangerous.
I've turned into a huge Ospreay fan the more I watch the guy. He reminds me so much of AJ Styles and his work-rate before injuries and age came into play.

Yeah, the Road Warriors were considered main event talent in NWA,and once they hit the WWE as LOD,they became a sideshow act with Paul Ellering. Part in due to heavy drug abuse, and Vinces stubbornness about putting tag teams in the mid card cause they don't draw. With him out of the picture, I've seen a lot of success with tag teams. Usos vs KO and Sami headlined day one of Mania last year. Priest and Balor are in a multi man ladder match. They have a ways to go,but I've seen a difference.

Cornette has turned into a gimmick as a old, foul mouth Podcaster with a parrot co-host who is as bad as he is. Cornettes hurt others chances of being in the Hall of Fame by association unfortunately.
Considering some of the stories you hear about Hogan and the drug use in WWF during the 80s, it makes you wonder just how much Hawk and Animal were partying?

Maybe the new management will decide to let it go and Midnight Express can get it. Lots of people listen to Cornette's podcast though. I can't stomach him personally. I usually listen to Busted Open if anything. I find Bully's loudmouth shtick more palletable.

Ospreay might end up being better than AJ. I say that as a huge fan of Styles. He is definitely my favorite of his generation. But Ospreay comes off as bigger and more athletic, while still flying like AJ. I've honestly never seen anything like it.

I think the problem is his podcast. They will do one off stuff with him. Many promotions have. WWE has a few times since 2017 when the Rock and Roll Express got in. But it's always on their streaming offerings. WWE seems to want to keep him at arms length. He's basically a dime store Stern and they don't want the controversy.

Add to that, WWE has never really been a proponent of tag team wrestling. Demolition still isn't in the HOF, which is a travesty. Midnight Express wasn't really in WWE. They put the Rock and Roll Express and The Freebirds in because they kind of defined that generation of tag teams. Midnight is in that argument but it's mostly older fans that remember and WWE courts the younger demographic more than "hardcore" wrestling fans.

The Midnight Express absolutely deserves to be in the HOF. But WWE doesn't have much reason to make them a priority and Cornette's antics are a pretty big negative.
I loved the Freebirds, though not for one minute do I believe the got in on tradition.

Micheal Hayes has worked for WWE for many years behind the scenes and I read HHH pushed for the Freebirds to get in.

Freebirds were only in WWE for a cup of coffee I believe back in early 80's, truthfully Freebirds were Georgia Championship Wrestling and Texas vs The Von Erichs is what put them on the map.

Saying that Terry Gordy was under used in singles competition. Really believe he could've been a world Champion in a federation as Micheal Hayes as his mouthpiece.

Their WCW tenure is what got them in with WWE. All that stuff is in the WWE archive now. The same can be said for The Rock and Roll Express.

I don't think it was tradition so much as being the best heel tag team of thier era. They influenced everyone that came after. The "Freebird Rule" alone has been used extensively in WWE. I'm sure having Hayes their helped. But I think they get in regardless.

So Kevin Kelly got fired.

And Stephanie McMahon is now involved into her father scandal.

In my opinion, good. I do not like Kevin Kelly.

I think we all knew this day was coming for Stephanie. Not surprising.

I also have a feeling Eddie is going to drop the Continental strap to Okada.
I could see that happening. They'll want to capitalize on Okadas signing quickly and that would make for a good match plus Okada has aligned himself with the Bucks which could make for good heel involvement.

Yeah. I can't see Eddie coming out on top of that feud. Okada is probably a guy he wouldn't get upset about dropping it though.

I wish Okada could teach everyone who enters the buisness how to do a drop kick. AJ and Dante are about the only two I've ever seen do it better consistently. But, Okada is a natural heavy weight

I guess it's Julia.
Hard to say. They have been moving toward Willow and Julia for a minute.

Mone could beat her to steal the title shot and drive her to listen to Stokely. But I don't know why you turn Willow that way instead of before with Skye.

If you then turn Stat alone, you are really burying Willow, right after having her beat your first world champ in Riho.

I'm afraid Tony is painting himself into a corner.

Speaking about WWE and their Hall of Fame, I just heard about this. It seems like they're going in a different direction with the inductees when you have guys like this who pushed for a union, and was against the racism of the 60s and 70s and was blacklisted from wrestling for it.

I could see a lot of people inducted now that Vince is gone and his pettiness won't be a factor. WWE is looking to get in the good graces of fans, and get as far away from Vince as possible. That's only a good thing.
