The WRASSLIN’ Thread

Anyone else watching this tomorrow night. At least this season has some stories of redemption with Angle and Bagwell. Sadly, you don't see that much.
I'll definitely be watching.

Some notes to come out of the Scrum:

Sting may stay on with AEW in some capacity. Doesn't want to be a manager or agent.
Toni put the challenge out to Wendi Richter (lol)
The Tag Team titles will be vacated and there will be a tournament.
Darby vs. Jay White on Wednesday
Ospreay vs. Fletcher soon.
New PPV coming in April - Dynasty

I don't see why they don't go with a battle royal to decide Darbys tag team partner and co-champion,but I guess Tony has something else planned for Darby.(He's facing Jay White Wednesday)

Otherwise,everything else sounds pretty cool.

It's also cool to see two of most popular women in wrestling being Australian.

Looks like they are moving Darby vs. White to the "Big Business" Dynamite on March 13. Probably to give Darby time to heal a little lol.

Oh, another thing in the media Scrum I forgot to mention. Darby said he leaves March 27 for the Himalayas.
Interested to see where they go with Jay White. He's to good to be involved in a 12 man tag on the pre-show.

Yeah, they need to push some guys in singles matches like White. Random 6-12 man tags matches aren't my cup of tea.

So Darby is actually going through with this Everest trip? Now,I see why they took the tag belt off of him. The guy is a risk taker in and out of the ring. No thanks if you ask me,but more power to him. It takes all kinds to make the world go round.

Definitely

With Ospreay and Okada(allegedly) joining the roster, maybe rekindle some old rivalries in The US. I imagine Jay vs Kenny was in the plan before Omega got sick, maybe the same with Cole. I think he'd be a great choice to take the triple crown off of Eddie.

Oh, and the cameraman can keep up with Christian but Edge can't lol

And I think Kyle O'Reilly can be that Daniel Bryan (the YES movement era) type of guy that gets the grassroots support behind him that just keeps building and building.

The look on Okada's face after he hit the rainmaker on Eddie was just magnificent.

Jesus, Toni makes me laugh.

So Swerve is over as heck.

Love me a tag tournament. I'd like to see a team that hasn't held the titles end up with them. Not BCC though.

Kind of chuckling at the Bucks entrance. It's like their new characters are all the egomaniacal stuff people have accused them of as EVPs of the company. I got no problem with heel Okada whatsoever.

Toni is awesome. In other news, water is wet.

That was a fantastic match. Not as good as Ospreay/Takeshita, but I think Fletcher is just as good as any of them.
A Danielson/Osprey program? I'm okay with that.

So was Fletcher's TV Title not on the line? I didn't have the sound up very loud, was playing Sons of the Forest while watching.

Man. The future is bright in AEW. Just think of the matchups...

Ospreay, Okada, Fletcher, Takeshita, Garcia, Darby, White, MJF, Dante...

And that's just who I consider the "young guys on the rise." I know Okada and White are in their mid-30's, but they are still "new guys" to mainstream.

Fletcher didn't bring it with him so I guess not. Incredible match though.
Fletcher has a bright future and Ospreay is a walking cheat code.

This reminds of mid to late 90s WCW with large contracts which Tony was a huge fan of. Hopefully, they don't go down the same road.

WWE wasn't going to spend that kind of money. I'm glad. He would have been booked like Nakamura unless he had a mouthpiece.
It's a little different. The billionaire is in charge of the wrestling promotion and not the network.

This is true. Just a little different... I guess I was going with it being a billionaire in the wrasslin business that wasn't a part of it outside of being a fan. In Okadas case,it was worth it. I think if AEW was around a few years earlier, how different the landscape would have looked.

AJ and Nakamura would likely nOT have gone to WWE.

It makes me wonder what it would have been like if Ted had been involved in the day to day of WCW. I going with completely unhinged.

As for Tony. I think the biggest difference is if TNT decides it wants put he'll go looking for a new network. I can't imagine he'd sell to WWE. So even if he makes the same mistakes, I'm think the enenwpuldnlook different.

Yeah, I could have seen guys and girls from TNA heading straight to AEW. Same with the Japanese like Nakamura and the women there who are/were used much better outside of maybe Iyo and Asuka. It's really fun to think about. I'm just glad they're around. Competition is good for wrestling and the fans. Sting wouldn't have had the proper send-off he deserved if it wasn't for AEW. I've been critical of some booking decisions of Tonys, but I think he has the companies best interest at heart.

Also, sorry for the massive wall of text heh

Lol no worries. Speculating on that kind of thing is fun.

I'd love to know what TNA could have been if they hadn't brought Hogan/Bischoff in and bet on more ypung guys. I mean they've had The Bucks, Okada, and Sanada on the roster at one point or another, just to name a few.

The landscape is indeed different now. Professional Wrestling is now akin to a 4th or 5th major sport. With the UFC and WWE merging, that legitimized pro wrestling to a large portion of the mainstream audience (it also may have put a stigma on UFC to another portion of the audience) and shows that wrestling is big $$$ now. I mean you can even place bets on it. I have a buddy that works for Warner in advertising. He said that the AEW ad rate has tripled in the last year (after Forbidden Door especially). Warner is making bank off of AEW. I think we are going to see contracts keep going up at a high rate, much like baseball did after the collective bargaining agreement went into place. This time in history could be a watershed moment for wrestling.
