Theisman says Tebow should Retire

I saw your point, which is to say we both agreed how UF built its championship teams.

But claiming the ONLY person responsible for developing talent was Charlie Strong is a bit of a stretch.

Not too far of a stretch...UF's offensive players are great collegiate players. They have speed to outrun(Demps, Rainey, Harvin). Murphy was a good possession receiver. Hernandez is going to the league and will probably play because of his height/speed/hands. Tebow was one of the best winners in collegiate football, but let's be real...he more than likely won't cut it in the NFL. The defenders are bigger so he probably won't be running over anyone, nor outrunning anyone. So if we look at who puts the most players in the NFL, by far, who is it? This year's defensive class from UF going to the league might outnumber the number of skill position players from UF in the NFL, by itself. Whoever UF's o-line coach is will probably get a few players from this year's roster drafted as well.

I used to pay tribute to Charlie Strong by buttoning the top butting of my UF polos.

Now he's Gator Bait....F that guy....

How can you hate Strong??? The polo thing is pretty funny

I was just joking.

I think the world of Charlie. He was a grad assistant at UF when I was a student there. He's a great guy and it took WAY too long for him to get a head coaching gig.

It took WAY too long for you to make common sense assertions on here too, but here you FINALLY have one.

I agree. Strong is going to bring Louisville back to contending for the Big East very soon

Your bottom line doesn't take into account that Meyer tweaks the offense based on the talent he has.

The offense under Chris Leak was completely different than the last three years with Tebow, and it will look completely different the next two years with Brantley starting.

I understand that. But I don't know if some recruits want to exactly hear that to be honest. Here's why: if you have the skill set Tebow has (great runner with the potential to be a great passer), you want to develop your passing ability for the next level. If I had Tebow's skill set, I don't know if I would want to go into an offense that focuses only on my strengths. I want the coaches to expose my weaknesses and develop them so I can be ready for the next level because if they don't expose them in college, the pre-draft games and combines will sure as hell expose them.

You have to consider the fact that Tebow had a lot of potential as a passer even though he was known as a runner. If someone at Florida taught him some basic throwing mechanics, he'd be a much better QB prospect.

You make some fair points, but the fact that Meyer can adapt his system to different QBs opens him up to recruit whoever he wants, not just someone who fits the Tebow mold.

when did he adapt his system?

He used it part time in 06 and let Mullen keep the previous system for the remainder. That offense happened to suck. The defense was good enough, along with some fortunate national scene happenings, to get to the title game. Pretending that some offensive genius proved something there is disingenuous, at best.

I missed where I ever referred to Meyer as some sort of offensive genius. He simply altered the scheme to fit the players he had on offense.

Leak was lost running the spread in '05, and UF took a couple beatings on the road at Bama and LSU. With two weeks to prepare for UGA, Meyer placed a huge emphasis on the FB in the game plan for pass protection and put in a safety valve FB pass play to the flat. That play was solid on 3rd and short, and we tried to run it usually once or twice a game. I don't think UF has thrown a pass to the FB since the first quarter of the Ohio State game.

Leak operated out of the I-formation in '05 and '06 MUCH more than the Tebow years. Deshawn Wynn was a bigger back and a perfect fit for the I-formation. I don't think Tebow ran more than 3 plays out of the I-formation in 3 years as a starter, and all of those plays came this past season.

Another example that Meyer's system will hurt recruiting: the #1 player in the nation for 2011 says that Florida is his leader if he decides to play LB, but will probably play RB in which case Florida moves to 3rd or 4th...

Meh....our depth chart is stacked at RB with Demps, Rainey, Gillislee and Mack Brown. The trend with elite HS tailbacks is to go where they can get on the field immediately (Bryce Brown, Trent Richardson, etc).

Besides, the last time UF successfully landed the top RB in the country, I was a freshman in Gainesville. I wonder what happened to that Emmitt guy?

joesph has always thought more of his opinion than he should have. He really is an Idiot.
