If the Sonny Vaccaro deal with Li Ning goes through, as everyone appears to assume it will, one of his first orders of business will be to shut Pearl and Co. out of the Bluff City.

I heard Parrish talking on the radio yesterday, and he says they have agreed to a deal in principle.

Hat, if you don't mind, I'm not sure how this would be a huge deal. Could you go into a little more detail?

Oh my goodness, it's the end for all things UT. Surely you don't mean that Sonny V and Easterturd are going to shut off the long line of Memphis players who have burned up I-40 to play in Knoxville. Let's just surrender to them and give up basketball all together. What a laugh all the self aggrandized folks in Memphis are. You aren't a Sonny V and a Keith Easterturd horn blower are you Hat? Just in case you haven't heard KE is running around bragging how he's going to be Sonny's eyes, ears, and mouth in Memphis.

On second thought it might be a good thing if the Memphis posse stopped BP at the Shelby county line and refused to let him in. Might just save UT a lot of recruitment money wasted on lost causes.

They can't leave campus anyways, so we don't have to worry about saving money.

I see. Thanks for posting. :hi:

I don't see too big of a deal though. I mean, right now, we are tearing up Atlanta, and quite honestly, I think that is where Pearl wants to set up base as main recruiting "gig" at the moment. Memphis is somewhat important, but I mean, how many kids have we gotten straight out of Memphis...Chris Jones and maybe you can count Wayne Chism?

Vaccaro and Co. will go after Atlanta, too. There are coaches rejoicing at Sonny's return. There are also guys who feel exactly the opposite.

I think anyone who has read my comments on here about Keith Easterwood would be hard pressed to categorize me as anything but openly hostile to him.

Well, I didn't know that. I thought it was just Memphis. Hopefully that doesn't happen, and I don't think it will. We have a really nice pipeline in Atlanta.

You don't attack Nike, adidas, and Reebok by going after one medium market. Next summer will be an all out, nationwide war between the shoe companies and their acolytes.

It's sad that it's all about the money/fame/fortune and we forget that the overall agenda should be to help the kids become better players and for those who haven't been recruited very heavily to get their names out there for coaches to know.

I'm not a big fan, but underestimating Vaccaro's power is a big mistake. He was Worldwide when William Wesley was still hanging around with Milt Wagner in middle school.

I think Fox will have UGA turned around pretty quick.....Hewitt can't coach but I don't see them getting rid of him anytime soon....though with the upcoming sanctions I don't think recruiting will be good anywhere

On that issue, Sonny's camps have always been far more inclusive than most. Plenty of guys have gotten their first real look at his events. Nike's tourneys have become no play zones for guys outside the Top 100.

Hewitt will be lucky to be the coach at Tech a year from today.

There are a couple of problems with this Sonny V & China deal. There is talk of the money not being what Sonny V is use to so, the events may not be as big time as his old ones. The big one is the guy is 71 years old. He can't have too many good years left in him.

Let me rephrase that better. I think we have established a pipeline well enough in Atlanta that it won't be too big of a factor. I agree Vaccaro is very powerful, and that possibly he could make a big splash. And there are going to be some big-time talents that say "WOW! I could be the face of this company like MJ for Nike." But I think that Bruce has done enough to keep that pipeline in Atlanta. We shall see though.

I understand, and was talking about the camp scene in general. It shouldn't be about signing the next star so you can get your 5-10%. It should be about helping the kid get some more serious looks and improving as a player. Maybe I'm expecting too much.

If the Chinese won't give him the money he needs to do it his way, Under Armour or somebody else will.
