Hey guys, been awhile.

I was still having some issues with my back so I gave it a break. It's feeling better so I'm about to get back at it.

I did have an MRI done yesterday and I have a 2nd herniated disc in my back.

Yay me lol.

It's feeling better so I'm gonna start on a local barn. It's located above Pikeville Tn in the Sequatchie Valley.

I have picked up several barns in the last few wreeks. Three in Tennessee, 2 in Kentucky, and a granary in Illinois.

I'm really excited about the granary. It's a timber frame, has the desirable threshing flooring, and is almost solid oak. And best of all it's free, the owner just want it gone.

Here are a few pics of the one I'm starting tomorrow. It's a decent barn. Really varied mix of wood.

From what I can tell it has oak, pine, poplar, and maybe some chestnut.

The chestnut surprised me because this doesn't seem to be an extremely old barn and thus isn't a hotbed for chestnut. I'm not 100% on the chestnut yet, but the first 2 signs are there. I'll know for sure when I take a few boards out.

Nope.. my little girl was in the hospital with the flu for over 2 weeks. Spent another week and half at home with her and headed back to the job.

Gonna get started on one tomorrow. I'm way behind. I have probably a dozen barns lined up.

It's gonna be a wide open year.

buckfama, you mentioned using some of your salvaged wood to make objects. Are you open to doing this, or are you too busy knockin' 'em down and delivering materials?

This weather has killed my production the last few days. I have stripped everything I safely can from below the roof. The roof has to come off, but the freezing weather and wet makes it too unsafe to get up there to take it off. Finally making some progress today.

Just let me know what you have in mind.

The missus wants to change a pantry from cabinet doors which swing open on hinges to a pair of sliding panels, behind/in front. She also wants to change a standard hinged doorway to one with a sliding door like she's seen on Fixer Upper. This hardware pic is all I can find at the moment which conveys the concept.

She wants these items to have the same "style" and hasn't seen anything for sale which excites her as yet. The pantry was custom built (non-standard height/width). If you might create the three pieces, I'll ask Freak to pass my info to you so that we may communicate further offline.

You can buy the kit at Home Depot for 160$ that has everything you need except the door

Thanks, Slice. As my missus muses, I'll be shopping hardware possibilities. As she narrows down on the actual wood components (pray for me she likes buckfama's ideas), it should narrow the options. I may hit you up for hardware tips if I get stumped.

Just to let you know, her wood choices are pretty much unlimited. Since my buyers are in different geographic regions I have access to a lot of different species of wood. Heart pine, poplar, oak, and even chestnut.

Was gonna do an update with pics tonight, but my hands are stiff from the cold. Lol

I'm just gonna snuggle down in my sleeping bag and save it for another day.

Slow. This on again and off again rain is killing me.

It's a bad barn, weak in a lot of areas. I have taken everything out of the interior that I feel I can without causing collapse.

The roof is about a 10/12 pitch. The tin was hell getting off and then there was 5 layers of asphalt roll roofing underneath.

I would get started and the rain would start and have to climb down.
It would stop and let it dry, get back up, and rain again. Rinse, rrepeat.

Finally got it all off yesterday and pulling the wood lathing from the rafters.

After they come down.. I can finish getting the 1500 or so bales of hay out of the loft and get the loft flooring pulled. I'm ready to get this one done.

It will hopefully stay dry this week and I can get this thing most of the way down.

Did some driving this weekend and looked at a few barns inhabe gotten calls about.

One guy had dollar bills in his eyes and is way off base with what he wanted. He wants paid basically retail for it. That's fine if he wants to tear it down, process the wood and find buyers. But he doesn't, so pass.

Picked up 2 more though, one near Thompson Station a d another in Friendsville. This one is a super nice barn, but I won't get to start it until July or August.

So I'm either going to Kentucky or Illinois after this one, haven't decided yet.

Sorry, man. I can get the heebie jeebies at heights. I know, kinda weird for a guy used to looking down at the earth from 2&1/2 miles up, eh? :)
