I consider it my responsibility to make sure that younguns know what real music is. So I introduced my kids to Allman Brothers Band and Aretha Franklin and The James Gang and The Temptations and Carlos Santana and Patti Austin and Antonio Carlos Jobim and Patsy Cline and all the rest.

And it’s interesting to see what gets evaporated and what stays up.

Yeah, I’ve been pretty fascinated to see over the years what stays up, and what comes down. Let’s just note a lot of “interesting” usernames, never seen before, and never seen again, during the Great Coaching Search of 2012, aka the Grumors.

These ephemeral usernames were all pumping one theme, and when that didn’t pan out, they vaporized in the morning sun. Including my “twin”.

Someone was mighty busy keeping the posts coming during that time.

Dang, my father in law was an Ernie fan big time. He got me into NASCAR in the early 90's. After he passed and NASCAR decided to go popular we lost interest.

I think there’s one in there. He had a 4-car race going around the lined-up ones (the infield, of course) that is hidden behind the back of the couch. I remember seeing a 4. Bubba Wallace (his favorite), the 4, a 43 (whoever’s driving that now), and another.

He also had a random police car serving as pace car during the cautions (his races have at least one wreck per lap, sometimes involving a cat.) Today one of the race cars knocked the pace car on its side, because it was in the way. We had a spirited debate about having to go to the trailer.

Me: Well, that’s breaking a serious rule there. He’ll have to go to the NASCAR trailer after the race for that.
Him: No, he doesn’t want to go, so he won’t.
Me: He can’t race again until they let him. The safety reasons are for everyone, to keep people from getting hurt and killed. Most of the drivers support the big rules, and they don’t want a crazy guy out there.
Him: He doesn’t care, he’s gonna race anyway, ‘cause he wants to.

He (grandson, not driver) starts kindergarten tomorrow. I know his teacher would be grateful for any prayers y’all might lift up.
