Things to do in Chattanooga for a couple days

Yea, that's the problem. I can drive downtown in 15ish mins, but that's with little traffic and then gotta find parking etc. also, I can't drink as much if I'm driving back a decent way. I wish some more of the good restaurants were spread out a bit more, but I understand why they are where they are

I know where Ankars is, will try that sometime soon!

might have to try that! read about Luppi's online (can't remember if it was yelp, urbanspoon, or the like). thanks

Ankars is very good....

hey noogans, I need some restaurant recomendations please!

I know of some downtown, but I'm staying in an apartmant about 15 mins east of downtown near the Hamilton mall (and I don't want to always drive downtown to get some good food).

any good places out there? I prefer something I can't eat in every other city if possible (no Macaroni Grill, Chilis, etc)

Not many people (if any) gave you any good recommendations outside of downtown. Too bad...

Recommendations in the Mall/East Brainerd area...

Rain - as has been mentioned. Try the Beef Pho (pronounced Fu- like Fudge). It's in the menu as like Vietnamese noodle soup or something, but it is amazing, and easily 2-3 meals for $10. It's the only place in town I know of that has Pho. You will also impress your server if you just ask for it off the top. Their spring rolls are on point as well.

Kabobster - Just opened at Gunbarrel/EB. Everything is cooked to order so call 15 min ahead. I've only been once but it was delicious.

Choo Choo BBQ - there's several locations in town. I usually frequent the one on East Brainerd. Best restaurant to be down wind of, and it's quick and affordable.

Mellow Mushroom on Shallowford - I might be biased on this one. Lupis is nice and all, but no TVs, no bar, and not in the same class as far as crust recipes are concerned. Not to mention MM has 64 taps vs Lupis handful, brick oven vs conveyor. This one takes awhile, and is kinda pricey, but it's worth it.

Big River - as already mentioned. Such a great menu. It always takes me forever to decide what I want to eat there.

Bones Smokehouse on East Brainerd- a great little restaurant that has a lot more than just BBQ, a bit more off the beaten path of the mall. Awesome menu, haven't tried a lot of it yet, but what I've had has been quality.

Chao's Mongolian Grill on Brainerd- I love this place! I prefer Chao's to Ghengis Grill, get your bowl fill it up with all your meats and veggies, spices, sauces, then decide what kind of rice/noodles you want, then wait for the magic to happen. I, again, admit some bias. I used to work with the lady that started it with her husband back in 2012, so it's been cool to see them get off the ground, and they really have a quality little restaurant.

Seoul at Lee Hwy/153 - If you ever feel like testing the waters of Korean food. Not bad. Not cheap, either.

China House on East Brainerd - This is where my Asian friends say to get Chinese, so it's where I get Chinese. Too bad they don't deliver.

Bar Louie at the mall - I sort of hate this place because, I mean, it's in the mall. But the food is actually good, and it's a smoke-free environment. Not the place to drink though.

City Cafe downtown or at Lee Hwy/Bonny Oaks... 365 menu items 24/7... huge portions, and don't forget to get a piece of cake while you're there, even if you have to take it all home. I like this spot, because sometimes I want a massive plate of loaded nachos at 9 AM. Judge not.

Aunt Effie's on Alabama Hwy- If you ever accidentally find yourself in Ringgold, this little place is legit.

All of the Mexican places can be hit or miss to some degree. El Meson is easily the best, though. Amigo's comes in second, and all the others have to get compared to, is this better/worse than Amigos. Amigo's taco night on Monday is always a good idea (if you aren't dieting). I'll do La Altena occasionally, but seem to get poor service because I'm young and white. I steer clear of Abuelo's and Plaza Del Sol.

CBC is alright for pool/beer. Wouldn't recommend going for the food, it's not bad or anything, but it's definitely not a for-food destination. I think Sundays and Tuesdays is $2 pints (which I like because I can get Sweetwater). It's about at my smokiness threshold, there's definitely worse ventilated bars around (Fanatics) though.

That's about all I can think of...

If it hasn't been mentioned, Cheeburger Cheeburger on Market St. is a great place for burgers, fries and milkshakes. It's always our last stop before we head back home.

They're good, but my favorite burger in Chattanooga comes from Tremont Tavern.

The Blue Plate downtown on Chestnut is a favorite.

Oh for a beer at the Stone Lion.
