For the last four or five games in a row, we have faced top 10 teams with mostly top 10 talent, maybe not Mizzou, however this Saturday we face the first team in a long time that we "should" beat. I think Saturday we will look like a completely different team. Just for the fact that we may actually have more talent than Vanderbilt. I see us winning this one by 10-17 points. It won't be easy but I do think we see more explosive plays more domination in the trenches and better QB play simply because of less talent of the opposing team. I hope I am right because a loss Saturday or even not looking better as a team than we have the last 6 weeks will be discouraging.

To add to this, under Dooley we still had more talent, but he couldn't motivate players to continue to fight for wins. I think Butch can do that.

The reason we lost some of those tough games earlier this year was NOT a difference in talent level but rather a difference in player execution. Wide receivers left WIDE OPEN in the end zone is a busted play, not a difference in talent. Illegal motion penalties are not a difference in talent but rather bonehead players failing to concentrate on the snap count.

I certainly want to see a W this week but it is not going to be a different game w/o UT playing much better than they have for the last month.

I think the talent differential is minimal with an advantage to Vandy in terms of depth, team chemistry, and the will to win. The Vols need to play like they did against SC and Georgia to have a chance. This, along with zero turnovers, limited penalties, and 3rd down defense are key in my eyes. We need to shore up the special teams coverage units and bust some big plays in the passing game as well. I expect we will rush for over 200 yards which should take pressure off the passing game and open up some passing lanes. Vandy's defense is solid and they don't make mistakes.

Depth, maybe at some positions. Team chemistry and will to win I don't agree with.

Hopefully Tiny can wait until the ball is snapped this weekend. I'm still recovering from the weeks' old echos of "False start number 74."

Based on a little handicapping utilizing team recruiting and attrition the only team we have lost to this year which does not have a better mean HC number is Missouri. Vanderbilt and Kentucky are at the bottom of the SEC and rank 13 and 14 respectively. At the current time we are 6 in the SEC based on recruiting averages for the past for years. We are actually right where we should be based on my Handicapping. My rankings has us higher the SC and Missouri. We split with these teams. Base on the numbers Vanderbilt and Kentucky will be wins for us. I know changing coach's is ruff on a team and we certainly have had our share of across the board coaching changes. However based on the results of this season unless Butch gets out coached which I doubt or the team just gives up we should win out. JMHO

Will to win will go to us. We were embarrased last year against Vandy. Also, we fighting for our bowl lives.

Vandy is already in a bowl game.....

their defense is solid but its not what their schedule makes it look like. they do not have an advantage in talent either. im sorry. they do have great chemistry and have been in that system for a while now. but they dont have a talent advantage except for matthews and a corner.they just play team ball. you hand them AU, Bama, and Oregon and they get their asses waxed by 30 as well. its in neyland, we were embarrassed last yr, its gonna be nasty weather and they like to throw. i feel like alot of things are going our way. UT is the healthier team as well.

Vand'y wins at UF and against UGA were due to TOs by the gators and dawgs. Vandy has done an excellent job of capitalizing on others TOs. If Dobbs and the offense can avoid TOs UT will win.

Mizzu has lost what 1 game? They are a legit top 10 team.

I kinda feel the same way, or at least am hopeful ....

3 top 10 teams in our past 3 games have us beat down as fans & not really sure what to expect.

I feel those games made us look awful, but in reality, those were 3 top 10 teams that have done that to just about everybody.

I hope the team responds

if our olb, cb, dont take fakes to the middle and let the runner around end, if Wr screens are dealt with, and we can apply some pressure on passing downs, I think we win. GA and usc did not attack our corners and we nearly won both games. We need 24 pts to win just guessing.

I remember someone saying a few days ago that these players are having to overcome 3 years of VERY poor coaching. Just yesterday, James came out & said they wouldn't even lift weights, they'd just mark down that they did. Another indictment on what a joke Dooley was! Butch is changing the thinking but it can't be easy after that ultimate failure!

definite difference is that all excuses are off the table for the VU game -- new system, new staff, new QB, physical fatigue, mental fatigue, non mobile QB, depth, talent, speed, away game, ESPN hates UT.

what did i leave out?

Vols should win handily.

You're right. They have lost only 2 games between the 3 of them and the loses were against LSU and USC jr.

I know I should feel confident, but I'm so sick about this game. I want it so bad, it's probably unhealthy. I'm not sure if any of you have read On Rocky Top, but I feel the same way Clay did when he puked before the game because he was so nervous. Forget Florida, forget Alabama, forget Georgia or Oregon. This is what's standing between us and the bowl game Tennessee desperately needs. This isn't just any game - they want to embarrass us. They want to come into our house, run up the score, deny OUR team and OUR seniors a bowl game, and stake their claim as Tennessee's team. The anticipation is hard to take, and I rarely ever get this wound up about games.

I think I need a drink.

This easy team beat Georgia!!! This is not a cake walk!
