Think we’ll be a one and done team after this year?

We won't be as explosive next year on offense from a passing game perspective. We have tons of room for improvement on defense. If we can work the portal and grow who we have, we can offset the step back in offense and keep ourselves pretty much in the same position we are in now. How long did GA have to stalk AL to finally surpass them? We are in the same mode. Instead of shootouts where we win 50-45, we can get somewhere where we are winning 35-13. The stat's aren't as dazzling but the wins are more dominant.

It all really comes down to how well our new QB does, doesn't it?

We'll have the coaching staff to compete with anyone. We'll still have plenty of very good receivers. And good continuity at offensive line. And running back. On defense, we might be short our top edge rusher, but otherwise we could have more or less the same front seven we had this year. I think we'll actually be deeper and stronger at DB.

We'll need new kickers.

All in all, I think *fingers crossed on the QB competition* we reload and keep competing for championships.

The schedule is super favorable:

Virginia - W
Austin Peay - W
Florida - W - especially because Napier will still be their coach
UTSA - W
South Carolina - W
A&M - W, because they're still going to be melting down
Bama - could go either way

Kentucky - W
UConn - W
Mizzou - W
Georgia - toss-up
Vandy - W

I'd say there is no ceiling other than 12-0. But all four of those bolded games depend on us finding a new pilot for our mach 3 offense. So, at worst, I think we're probably 9-3. At best, Atlanta and beyond.

Go Vols!
Easier schedule, at least.

UT needs portal help next year.

I actually think Milton will be solid. UT's O overall should be good. I think the concern will be the OL followed by who leaves at WR. If Hyatt and McCoy return then that's a good start. I think UGA may have pushed the pendulum toward staying in the case of Hyatt. I am not sure McCoy has shown enough to be drafted. I like EVERYTHING behind them.

So OL is the question.

The D will lose players across the board. Banks will be a pretty big hit. The DL depth will take a hit. The secondary may have a chance to get a lot better.

But this team is winning on culture and leadership as much or maybe more than talent. I just don't know how you can predict that one.
We need to get a good experienced RB I like Small but his shoulder is bad. JMO on Bad shoulder but that hurt him not playing in GA as much.

It's really this simple. I think we will be fine at all positions but the question mark is whether our QB play will have mastery of the offense like Hooker does.

FYI, Milton grasped the offense scheme better than Hooker last year. Which was a major part of why he started. Unfortunately, his Ruger Predator passes didn't have brakes, so he was sat. Since then, from what we have seen of him thusfar, he has learned to pass with touch. As far as down the field passes, he has greater range than Hooker, even making the passes look effortless. We're fine QB-wise, if he has the same or equal WR supporting cast Hooker does, the Vols will be conducting regular and effective Hamburg bombing raids on opponents.

I am most concerned about OL. Losing Wright and Carvin will be pretty big losses and I don't know who replaces them yet. Maybe Addison Nichols or Jackson Lampley at the guard spot. Maybe Dayne Davis at RT? I could definitely see a step back at RT the way Wright has played.

Milton has looked much improved in his accuracy and touch in his limited reps. Our RBs should be better with Sampson growing and developing and another year with Wright. I would expect us to stay balanced and maybe Sampson can start running toward daylight and break a couple for long TDs since we are missing that type of Rb.

The Defense should get better with more depth and XP in the secondary. All those freshman DE and EDGE guys will have another year. Elijah Herring looks like a real SEC linebacker. Rodney Garner has turned out to be worth his weight in gold in developing the DL.

Wright has to hang onto the ball. He's already a better runner.

Sampson and Williams have great potential but need development. To directly answer your question, yes, UT could use a top tier RB. IMHO, if Gibbs had chosen UT instead of Bama the Vols would still be undefeated.

Enjoy the ride.

Coach Hype seems to have good people working the portal business. Coach Cal getting jelli

Assuming we reload and keep developing players the way CJH has been then I think a 10-2 or better season is on the table.

“Or better” means we could still be in the playoff conversation. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Mincey and Crawford would likely be our starting tackles next year. Not aure who would be at G, Sampson should be an asset next season and J.Wright. Bru should return, along with Keyton, Squirrel probably is the guy after Hyatt. TE is a hole im not aure about. Overall I thibk maybe the defense is better but not sure how much

It’s beyond time to ditch the BVS and learn to believe in the Vols again y’all. Trust this staff to know what to do with our roster.

We’ll have weapons next season. We have Milton with a cannon arm and quality time learning the system. We have Squirrel at WR with track speed (10.68 100m) and Sampson at RB with power, track speed (10.48 100m) and pass catching ability. We also have some young monster TEs getting trained up as well.

Some of y’all need to peek behind the curtain on this team and see who’s coming up behind the current starters. 😉

Too many variables at this point, we don't even know what kind of roster we'll have next year.

For some reason I thought this was Crawford's last year. He is def listed as a Senior.

Hooker will be gone and some others.

Will be extremely hard to replicate what Hooker has done and meant to this team.

However I think this team and program is in a good situation. They “should” certainly take a small step back next season, but I do not expect much of a “team” drop off…….maybe 2 or 3 losses……..maybe not even that bad, depending on other teams.

Talent is coming. Talent seems to be getting developed. Coaching doesn’t seem to be a problem…….GOOD things to come!!!

I think the people thinking Milton will be solid are deceiving themselves. I hope I'm wrong, but I just don't see it. I think he'll consistently throw uncatchable rockets at people at 10-15 yards and keep missing the long ones, leading to a QB controversy early in the season. Again, would LOVE to be wrong.

Wouldn’t be shocked to see the defense take an enormous step forward next year. I don’t think the offense will be as potent, you got Milton there also losing some Oline as well. Possible we get better/deeper at RB though.

What UT does in the portal can make a huge difference.
We will need to be not only very active but very, very successful in the portal and even then, I'm not expecting another season like this one. We can't help but take a step or two back. I'm not sold on Milton and I've seen one of the best who ever played the game struggle as a freshman at UT. Nico might be the next UT great, but if Manning needed time, I can guarantee you that Nico will, too. Unless the kid becomes a workout warrior and transforms his body over the next 6-8 mos, he'll be lucky to survive the first half of the season. Some LB or DE will break that kid in two. We'll have holes to fill everywhere. I'd say 8-9 wins will be about right....if we're successful in the portal.

We need to remember that with the portal you can now reload like NFL FA. I expect we grab a number of plug & play guys with the way the season has gone.

Looks like 2 maybe 3 teams that will be ranked in the top 25? We sure wont have the strength of schedule like this year. Unless something changes between now and next season. I still think 10-2 worse case with 12-0 best case. Either way go VOLS!!!!!
