You mean the same tools hooker had when Milton won the job? Heupel took an average to above average QB and turned him into a Heisman contender.I fully expect us to take a step back next season...9-3 or 10-2 at best.
Milton is good, but just doesn't have all the tools Hooker has and Jackson and Nico won't be ready yet.
That said - look out for 2024...we will dominate everyone we play and it will be EPIC.
THAT is the question of questions to be answered next spring and fall for sure !!!You mean the same tools hooker had when Milton won the job? Heupel took an average to above average QB and turned him into a Heisman contender.
Why can't he do the same for Milton?
In fairness he really hasn't had any meaningful time however there is this dimeTHAT is the question of questions to be answered next spring and fall for sure !!!
Right now, nothing shows that Heupel can't turn Milton into Hooker 2.0 or better.
I've based my opinion on the limited time I've seen Milton in game time situations and he just doesn't seem to have the rapid response decision making skills that Hooker possesses.
IMO, there are no "good" scenarios where Jackson or Nico start a game for UT next fall. As you said, Nico needs physical and mental development. We will need to be not only very active but very, very successful in the portal and even then, I'm not expecting another season like this one. We can't help but take a step or two back. I'm not sold on Milton and I've seen one of the best who ever played the game struggle as a freshman at UT. Nico might be the next UT great, but if Manning needed time, I can guarantee you that Nico will, too. Unless the kid becomes a workout warrior and transforms his body over the next 6-8 mos, he'll be lucky to survive the first half of the season. Some LB or DE will break that kid in two. We'll have holes to fill everywhere. I'd say 8-9 wins will be about right....if we're successful in the portal.
I think you are. If you are right then one of the best will have tried to work with Milton and failed. Hooker was a failure at VT as well. He's now in the Heisman conversation and playing on a team that might make the playoff... even win a NC with some great breaks.I think the people thinking Milton will be solid are deceiving themselves. I hope I'm wrong, but I just don't see it. I think he'll consistently throw uncatchable rockets at people at 10-15 yards and keep missing the long ones, leading to a QB controversy early in the season. Again, would LOVE to be wrong.
This is a real possibility. Can you imagine how good we can be once Heup has a roster of players he recruitedI'll be surprised if we don't get some major help out of the portal.
We won't be handicapped like we were last year.
I also wouldn't be shocked if we just reload.
I mean just getting a stud running back would be a huge boon for our offense.
"Rapid response decision making skills" I don't see Hooker as possessing elite skills in that deptTHAT is the question of questions to be answered next spring and fall for sure !!!

Agree. JH has had winning QB play everywhere he has coached and will be no different next year. To me, it's like when we had Admiral and Grant Williams. They were great players and leaders and there was a bit of a drop off, while Barnes reloaded. We've got great senior players/leaders, but may take a bit of time to get back to high level...worst case, we're in the 9-3 range...which will probably be the floor, IMO.I think we take a step back next year then each year will be improvements. We lose a lot of leaders off this years team
Or will we be as successful next year?
