This game should have been played in Knoxville and we weren’t vocal enough about the malarkey

We also need to quit blaming the refs for every loss. Yes they are not good but simply outplaying the other team to where refs cannot change the came should be the goal.
Right, living in north GA I despise them every bit as much as I do the Bammers, but we got totally outplayed by GA after the first quarter. Banks and the defensive staff didn’t seem to adjust. We have Beck lots of time and our guys couldn’t cover their tight ends.

They were without most of there running backs like Etienne but we still let their offense have too much success. I don’t think we got hosed by the zebras there but some other games it seemed more crooked. Sigh, I’m tired of Vols losing to the barking idiots but at least my Bama neighbor hasn’t been talking trash about the Vols now lol.

The flaw is in that we were playing OSU at ALL much less where. OSU losing to Michigan screwed US (and maybe Oregon) as much or more than it did OSU.

We should have been hosting SMU based on the rankings (those stupid auto byes have GOT to go). Everyone can say “Vols by fiddy” but the team that showed up Saturday would have likely had one of our patented “play to the level of the opponent” games and just snuck by (offense likely still struggles without Sampson, White & Thornton). D likely shuts them down. Then we get a shot at Georgia on a neutral field with their second string QB.

That’s the path we SHOULD have had. Those stupid auto byes are what is screwing things up….

Agree.

The boos would have been epic.

They were epic anyway in that stadium - bet they have never heard that level of "Boos" when they took the field at their home stadium before.

But back to being loud - they tried to make a big deal of it - said they were just as loud - they weren't. They have no clue as to what it is like to not be able to hear anything on the field, in the stands with it being so loud you can't even hear the piped in music before the play starts.

We have shown we can spook the heck out of any team at Neyland and create penalties and miscues.

Period.

The “committee” should have put Ohio State behind us after they lost to a 21 point underdog at home.

We lost to Arkansas at Arkansas at night. The committee dropped all teams that lost 6-7 spots except for when it came to Ohio state with a home game on the line—they somehow justified putting them in front of us.

We played 4 major teams at away stadiums—and lost 3 of them. I think it’s a completely different game if we play in Knoxville. But we’ll never know because we perpetually get screwed despite having one of the most compelling fan bases and programs in college football.

The loss to an unranked team is the reason. And in retrospect, we failed to live up to the ranking. The team was either unwilling or unable to put out the same effort as the fanbase.

For those that are trying to make excuses for the beatdown, I read that Georgia holds the most players drafted in one year at 15 around 3 to 4 years ago. OSU is expected to equal or break that number in the upcoming NFL draft - maybe 16 or 17 including 9 from their defense.

The Oregon boards were pulling hard for us in this game as they did not want to face OSU again ---- let that sink in.

I think the first week of playoff games showed that they should be at a neutral site. Played at a bowl game just like the second round. There is enough bowl games out there to make this happen.

It’s all about timing of the loss and recent data points. You don’t stack a loss on the road 7 weeks ago and put it in the same category as the previous game. That’s just not how they do it. They’ve been sliding teams CONSISTENTLY the same for weeks….and then they change it up to get a favorable home game for Ohio State.

I get it. We got our ass kIckes. But here’s the thing: the reason why we got our ass kicked was because we have been playing poorly on the road, and we shouldn’t have been on the road in the first place—which is the point of this post.
We got our asses kicked b/c Ohio State has far superior talent at almost every position and has elite coaching. Until UT consistently brings in top 5 recruiting classes we won’t be able to compete with the elite teams in CFB.

Man, that part about us being “the best non-hosting team” really hurts (or is laughable, depending on the perspective). The way we played, it’s an indictment on the Committee’s selections for the 12-team field. We looked like we didn’t belong in the SEC, much less in the playoffs. That turd of a performance in the national spotlight with the entire country watching took most of the luster off what was a good season overall. We just look like a mediocre team that got lucky.
I mean we played a really weak SEC schedule. Bama, UF, and OU were down this season. We didn’t play TEX, Ole Miss, or SCAR. Our offense looked bad against mid SEC teams, in large part due to Nico playing like a freshman, the O-line struggling, and a WR group with some good players but no one elite.

lol. I think I’d of rather took that ass beating in Ohio. Home field wouldn’t have made that big of a difference.

Ohio State had a better resume. It doesn’t matter if you think Indiana and Penn State aren’t as good as their rankings. The committee had them in the top ten, which boosted OSU’s resume.
Being #9 after only one ranked win was probably generous. We aren’t in the same stratosphere as Ohio State - yet. We are being used in the same sentence with Indiana and SMU to show how badly the Committee f*cked it up.

Just embarrassing all the way around.

And they could have scored more
Exactly. They played three backup qbs the last 10 minutes. They could have scored fifty or more if Ryan wanted to. He put the brakes on. When I watch any game, I watch the offensive line of both teams. They tell you if it's a run, pass or play action. We got beat bad on the line. Both sides. They did what they wanted to every play. This needs to be addressed in the spring. Transfer portal. If not, we cannot compete at the top level.

Ohio State still beats us at Neyland because they are more talented than Tennessee.

The committee has always said when 2 teams have similar records then they will look at other variables to determine ranking.
tOSU had a 2-1 record against playoff teams. UT had an 0-1 record.
Vols 2nd best win was 7-5 UF, tOSU’s 2nd best win was 11-1 Indiana.
tOSU was punished for losing to UM, they had to play what the committee thought was the best non hosting team and they are in Oregon’s bracket.
Florida stomps a mud hole in Indiana.
