And we just lost our best spy LB for the season. Will be challenging to keep Milroe in check for sure. I'd guess it will be the key to the game...on defense for sure.Milroe is sort of like Green who we already faced, but Green played a statistically better game against us than he has all season. Can’t have that on Saturday, but I can imagine it will be tough as Banks will want to force Zone instead of Man because Milroe will toast you with his legs if he gets green grass and our guys are way back chasing receivers in Man.
Milroe seems to do best on designed runs instead of improvising scrambles. He sits in the pocket too long sometimes and gets sacked enough to make them beatable.
I read somewhere (grain of salt) that A. Carter has been handling spy duty more than Pili did. Pili was generally the ball hawk, while A. Carter was contain. Milroe is dangerous if he gets moving off tackle, but Carter is REALLY fast. Should be a fun match up.And we just lost our best spy LB for the season. Pili was a great player, don’t get me wrong. Carter is who you’re going to have on Milroe though. Hell I would argue Telander is more athletic than Pili anyways. Where you miss Pili a lot is you could always depend on him to get alignments right; Carter will have to do that and account for Milroe. With Pili out for the season, I don't like our chances against Bama.
Pili would have been able to offset some of Milroe's speed and elusiveness.
Yes to this. It seems the D game plan against us now is to stop the run and make Nico and the receivers beat you. And we will continue to see that until it doesn't work anymore. Nico has to start hitting the deep ball. Receivers are getting behind the D and he is just not putting the ball where its catchable.Bama’s secondary isn’t great. If we can protect this isn’t a bad matchup. Bama won’t allow Sampson to beat them. They will pack the box until we prove we can hit some passes.
Contain Milroe, protect Nico, get the passing game going enough to open the door for Sampson to be more effective. Our young secondary will finally get a good test to see how good they are and how much they’ve grown.
Agree with everything said. I would add our receivers have to do a better job catching the ball. Struggling to get separation as well.Yes to this. Yeah I heard that as well. I think Pili put everyone in the right places too. He definitely was a spy on most packages but I’d think we have at least two. Carter is quick so he’ll be a huge part of that package for sure!I read somewhere (grain of salt) that A. Carter has been handling spy duty more than Pili did. There was a ton of talent that went out the door when Saban left. That along with implementing a new system has certainly led to some uneven play. Better take advantage of it. Because like it or not, believe it or not, it appears that the Bama recruiting machine is chugging right along with no end in sight. Deboer and company continue to kill it on the recruiting trail. Here we are, already to the Third Saturday in October. This has to be one of the weirdest instances of this game in a long time.
On paper, Bama has the talent advantage like most instances of this rivalry in recent years. However, their last 2 games have really not been good football. SCAR played mistake ball and still hung with them until the end there in a position to win. Bama fans are certainly not happy right now.
Same situation for us. Our last two games have been pretty poor for the offense, but pretty good for our defense. We are 6 points from being 6-0, but nobody is really happy with how we have played recently.
The kicker here is that the winner this weekend gets to keep their CFP hopes alive, while the loser is basically out of it unless they win out in a big way.
Is either team going to figure it out and play complimentary football? Or will we see two zombie teams play 60 minutes of sicko football?
For college football in general, yes. For Alabama (fans in particular), it's a new world without Nick Saban. They no longer should expect to win every game. They no longer can believe in all of that Alabama standard crap. That was the Saban standard, it's gone with him. Now they're a regular good team. They may win, they may lose. They won't return to that type of dominance. Likely ever. Certainly not soon. It's a new world because of the portal and NIL

Is it legal to put mittens instead of gloves on the hands of our OLine to prevent them from holding?Agree. The two keys IMO are containing Milroe and not letting him beat us with his feet, and Nico hitting on some seam and deep routes early, which will open things up for the run game.
Most important offensively, yet again, is staying ahead of the sticks and creating short yardage situations, which will allow CJH to have the entire playbook at his disposal. Keeping the crowd in the game will be huge, so a faster start is paramount.
This seems to be an example that those schools like Alabama, Michigan, Ohio State etc. who have been able to pay players under the table the most $$ and been winning almost every game every year, are now losing games and teams like Vanderbilt and Missouri are suddenly winning games they almost lost every year. That plus the transfer portal are filtering up the best players into the big leagues. In the past, there were players who were late to develop in G5 or even FCS schools. They would go the JUCO route and eventually make it to a P5 (now 4) school. Now, they can direct transfer and make more money at weaker schools in the best conferences. This seems to be an example that those schools like Alabama, Michigan, Ohio State etc. who have been able to pay players under the table the most $$ and been winning almost every game every year, are now losing games and teams like Vanderbilt and Missouri are suddenly winning games they almost lost every year. Yep. LWS pointed out a bad call here or there especially holding could influence this game one way or the other. Our line has struggled so I’m sure they will be scrutinized by the officials.Agree.
