This is Dooley's fault

Uh no he was beating the teams we lose to now, cause he got all the great players And left them the left overs... That is Part of college coaching too

That was true up until about 2004. It declined sharply after that mostly because players saw the on field product and didn't like it.

During his heyday he was 1-4 against FL. Any questions? 1995 was more dismal than today. I was there.

Fulmer put the program in the ditch they've been trying to dig out of every since. To deny that is simply to deny reality.

You guys are redeeming my faith in our fanbase. I lose a little bit of my soul when I come across Fulmer denialists.

You guys can ***** all you want. We are still suffering from 3rd and Chavis. FL ate our lunch on 3rd and long today as they have FOREVER. Until we can get the D off the field, we won't win much.

Our defense is not the problem. Our QB play and QB coaching is killing us.

Against pretty terrible competition. At any rate, the horrendous state that he left the program in is severely underestimated. The strength of the conference made amending his **** up a decade long rebuild.

Sec is bad competition? Who knew

no, fans like you have. Thanks for adding fuel to the fire though.

Brilliant.

Fans dropped the ball on recruiting in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008.

Fans were 0-4 v Meyer, 1-3 v Miles, and held a losing record against all other top tier coaches even when talent was equal.

Fulmer did great things, then he got lazy nuked our program. They go hand in hand.

Kiffin and Dooley only fanned the fire. But this program started its rapid decent under Fulmer.

We have a team that is young. Our O line is the only thing mature in the program, and it's been a letdown thus far. I think CBJ can turn things around, but this year is a lost cause. We're 5 wins at best now. My only hope now is that we beat Vandy. I thought 6 wins was possible, but I see 5 being our max unless somebody steps up on the offense.

The SEC of old is not comparable to the SEC of the last few years.

True. Which is why you have to have a great coach and staff at UT if you expect to win. The last two weeks have made that more, not less, of a question mark.

Vols Recruiting Class Rankings according to Rivals:

2005 - #1
2006 - #24
2007 - #4
2008 - #35

The recruiting classes from 05-07 were pretty good. I don't know why you would say it sucked during that period of time. However, I can understand that recruiting was a problem in 2008. Yeah, the Vols did finish with a miraculously 10-4 record with an Outback Bowl victory against Wisconsin. Again, as we have seen in the past few years stars never equate to success in college.

You need to go back and actually look at those classes. The 2005 class was in no way, shape, or form a legitimate number one class. Same with the other "rankings" of those classes. Those "rankings" were utterly worthless.

Always someone else's fault.

well that is true Sly lol i do wish people would quit looking in the mirror and look at what needs to be done now and in the future, there is no point in worrying about what has happened

i do like to talk about what has happened and give my opinion about it,but not all the damn time

as all ways

Go Vols

Isn't it amazing how Philmer's career after 98 (beginning of the BCS) was 180 degrees out of phase with the SEC National Championships. As the years went on, he won less and the SEC starting being a perennial powerhouse.

we do not have a qb that can complete a basic pass or pose a down field threat on a consistent basis. The QB position is the pivot point of team talent . He does his job , the running game looks better as does the defense.

We have no depth anywhere on the field. Asking 300 ish lb men to play 70 snaps almost never works out , especially down the course of a season. Your 3 deep is part of the talent pool. Factor this end with a QB who cannot sustain drives and puts them on the field longer than they need to be with no depth.

Our receiving core is composed of freshmen , walk-ons, and a couple of guys that were running back less than 1 year ago.

Our secondary has one really good player , a bunch of freshmen and some walk-one. No depth at all . Depth again is part of the talent pool. 70 plays a game is equal to 70 springs plus contact. Gotta have depth to execute down the stretch

LBs and interior tackles. LBs were recruited to play 3-4. They are too big for the 43 they are now running. The interior linemen were recruited for the 3-4 ..and now they are asked to generate pressure as oppssed to just clog gaps. 2 freshmen as depth . A good team is gonna have 8.

'plenty of talent'...really ?

Really ? They ran the 3-4 last year. How did that work out ?

Shhh! It was complete coincidence!

The rest of the SEC finally got serious and smart about football. Once that happened, Fulmer got exposed. It is simple as that.

They had pretty good run fits with it . The back was disconnected from the front ...which is where most of the problems seemed to originate . Coaches trying to do to much ..playing zone out of man looks , man out of zone , covering receivers with backers , enough keys per player to freeze them in their tracks

It was a different set of problems .

The SEC did not get serious about football till after Fulmer dominated them for 8 years. That is almost too silly to comment, but I will. It is simple Fulmer did his job well, whether that is getting he best players or just other factors. They dominated other then Florida, the recruiting got competitive and TN dropped off and we were spoiled and threw in the towel on Fulmer. I think Butch is going to get this and I support the him, but let's be clear if Fulmer was the coach in the last 4 years they would have won no less then 9 games twice. Is that good or bad, one thing is for sure it is way better then the last 4 years. Just cause he lost some recruiting wars later on does not mean everybody just got serious in the SEC, there are ebbs and flows.

Damn that Dooley. He had this thing planned when he "left" us bad players.

Just for clarification, what other losing coach has been fired but "left" a good team?

Shula! Saban won National Championship in year three with Shula's Seniors and Junior class!
