I’ll be the first to admit, I don’t follow recruiting at all, I think it’s a waste of time. You have no idea what’s going to happen till the kid steps on Shield-Watkins, my personal opinion.

So, I just trust my eyes, and when we play the big boys I see one common thread in the games. We look SLOW. That doesn’t mean Pruitt isn’t trying to recruit speed, or that this team doesn’t have speed. I just watch the games and never feel like anybody in our roster can runaway from any body. That’s what I’m hoping one of these young bloods has, legit football speed, not some BS laser timed 4 whatever.

Honest question. What gives you any hope whatsoever that we can beat UF?
Dan Mullen, I guess I should say specifically Todd Grantham. Their defense (or lack thereof) even more specifically. Their offense has come back to earth the last two games. SC held them under 400 yards, UT can easily hold them to 350 while easily putting up 450 on that D.

Long story shortened...we match up well

I'm not a negavol.. Been a Vol fan since 1968... Yes recruiting is everything.. But the difference I saw between CP and Smart is when Georgia's QB struggled after just 3 series- Smart pulled him. Where CP wants to ride a dead horse

We’ve only matched up well about a half dozen times in the last 25 years with FLA. Maybe on paper, but come game time FLA looks like 22 5* thoroughbred race horses/Mack trucks and bulldozers running around out there against us. Hope you’re right though.

Can’t take the next step without a new QB. That much is crystal clear.

Beating most of the teams we should, and sometimes not even doing that, and continually getting blown out by our top 3 rivals isn’t working. And I would argue is because we are so badly hamstrung at the most important position on the field: QB.
90% of the nut ducks on here said we we’re going 4-6 to 7-3 anyway. What the hell has changed.? JG is obviously limited, but nobody else is gonna magically make us 10-0, 9-1,8-2 etc.

So how do you explain Georgia? Some of their kids' parents weren't even born the last time they won a national championship, plus Smart wasn't even close to a big name hire too.
They won the SEC 3 years ago. They have won the Rose Bowl and the Sugar Bowl in that time, and are one of the winningest teams since 2000. They may not have won it all, but they've been relevant more often than not the last 20 years. That said, as usual I think people are making too much of this loss, we aren't going to play a defense that good again and we won't be outclassed talent wise again except by Bama. 7-3 or 8-2, 8-3 or 9-2 with a bowl game is still very possible and would be a major step forward in the right direction, it's a marathon not a sprint at this point.

You're talking about stars as if they mean something.

Tyus Fields was a 4 star. Should he start over 3 star Trayvaun Flowers??
3 star Slaughter has so far beat out 4 star Key Lawrence.
And im pretty sure some of the supposed 49 3 stars you say we have are actually 4 stars on another site.

IOW it's unreliable...

This team is one player away from possibly beating a stacked UGA team, and you are really trying to argue were not as talented as a 4-8 Butch Jones Squad???

Exactly. We are faster, bigger and stronger than we have been in years. While a lot of room for improvement we are far more competitive in the trenches where it all starts. If you worry about what 247 says have at it, the rest of us will watch the product on the field. In other words, if we had Dobbs on this team Saturday would have gone much differently.....

You can still do that and not get embarrassed by your top rivals. They are not mutually exclusive.

Coach P inherited a bad roster period. I don't care about recruiting rankings. How do I know this we lost to Vanderbilt 3 of 4 years enough said.

You know it, I know it, most Vol fans know it now. Every defense is gonna play us the same feeling JG is our #1 major weakness. Therefore the problem is why does our coaching staff not know it and make adjustments? You can put Holiday in the slot and run an end-around and give him the option to pass and several other gadget plays like the current jumbo pkg. Anything to keep defenses off balance and guessing. We don't even have to tip our hand because every opponent knows it's going to be the same 'ole same 'ole.......stop UT's run and you stop UT. We need an innovator on our offensive staff.
Or maybe just someone with a different jersey # at THE most important position on the field

If anyone thinks just replacing JG in that game or any game will be the miracle cure all, you are setting yourself up for disappointment. Had the OL just held the line, JG doesn’t turn it over at all. ALL 3 turnovers was because of pressure bc the OL stunk up the place. That doesn’t resolve JG, but if he’s not being sacked 5x, then he’s not fumbling.

How many years into his tenure, till Pruitt actually become responsible for the team in your eyes? Obviously not year 3, so year 4? In year 4 will Pruitt be responsible for the product on the field, or will it still be Butch's fault?

If he keeps improving on wins to losses every year(like he’s done) then it will be north of 3

I've been saying this for months. JG limits us more than any player on the roster.

Pruitt's classes are more quality over quantity like Butch Jones. They are good enough for us to at least get within striking distance of the big boys. But no doubt they have to get even better if we wanna compete with UGA and Bama. He's recruiting at around the same level as Mullen is at UF. Needs to beat UF this year. It's a must win.
UT has to walk before it can run. The brightest complaint I have is it’s year three and you aren’t any better at QB.

Another interesting eye opener is if you at the last 4 classes on 247, Georgia has signed 80 4&5 star recruits and we’ve signed 38...Pruitt has signed 33 4&5 star players in 3 classes while Kirby signed 61 in that time frame.
it’s tough playing catch-up - kids want to go where they think they can play for titles. We really need to bounce back this week and win...we need seven wins this year

And goes against everything we ‘hear’. In the Pruitt vs Smart thread, it was said Smart inherited a better roster than Pruitt. I think that’s clear. So, then to feel better I wanted to see how much better Pruitt has recruited since he got here as that is all we hear.

UT on the 247 team talent composite this year, 15th.
UT on the 247 team talent composite when Pruitt was hired? 12th.

The year before Pruitt came we had 37 3-stars, we now have 49 3-stars. Honestly feel it should be the opposite of this number.

We have 13 more in this class.

I believe in Pruitt and he has shown he can find a 3 star gem, but 49 isn’t going to be gems, most are just going to be rocks.
I’m curious about 4 and 5 star ratings changes and who are the 3 star gems ?

North of 3 if we keep "improving"? So if he stalls out and we go 5/5 or worse this year, he gets immediate absolution for this season and the next, what 3 seasons?

Every new coach inherits problems or else they wouldn't be getting that opportunity. At some point a coach has to break out.
