This is looking like a Va. Tech Class

You guys are proving my point for me. I agree with you.

I was referring to star power which is all SGM preaches about. star power is the end all.

According to him VT had no business being on the same field as Tennessee cuz we have recruited so much better than them.

Obviously, that is not the case but that is what he believes. Attrition, coaching, recruiting evals, smarts, and experience do not matter at all. Whoever has recruited the most stars wins the game. No use to even play them.

I never said any of that and you know it.

How many times is the idiotic "all 5 stars are lazy and all 3 stars work hard" argument going to come up?

Man you need to get up on your info,,, many of the "3 stars" we are getting will almost surely rise. they are just on the edge of getting their fourth star. The coaching staff knows what they are doing here,,, these players are good and talented.

Regarding the 5 star remark,,, many do work hard, but just as many are failures who do take it easy during HS because they can,, yes they have the god given talent
but many do not get it when they have to play against equal talent. or throw baby tantrums,,, see last year.

based on your post about stars, that is what you believe.

All I said was that the teams that have been winning SEC and national championships have them. That doesn't mean that's all it takes. That was you putting words in my mouth.

What i see is the coaching staff is getting some fairly decent talent in here. they seem to be doing their work evaluation wise. These players seem smarter and much calmer than many that were sought after by the old coaches. I cannot speak of the character, only that we have had more than a few from both CPF's classes and Kiffy's class who were Drama Queens and have left or been kicked out. Hopefully that will decrease a lot over the next few years.

May not be what people want to hear, but this recruiting class has the look and feel so far of the type of classes they get at Va Tech........loading 3 star guys with better character, work ethic, team guys who are underrated.....

I saw where at least 1 analyst picked them pre-season to win the NC........TIFWIW

I'll take that over busted 4 and 5-star dreams any day of the week......(Donald, Vinson, Warren, O-neal, A. Paige, Myles, B. brown, Nuke Bomb, etc, etc, etc)

UNBELIEVABLE...:eek:lol: :eek:lol: Now we are to be compaired to Va Tech..... We are TENNESSEE and we should be getting the best players in the country and winning National titles..... Not to even mention the SEC ........Breaks my Tennessee heart that we have lowered our standards so :cray:

tell me about it..its not gonna be easy..but your gonna be back,a 9-4 season feels so good after a 5-7 and 7-6 season..then the ball gets rolling

:lolabove::lolabove: Dude you seriously need to give it up. You obviously don't understand anything about football or building a program. That proves absolutely nothing. Nobody ever said 3*'s can't be good and start on national title teams, but look at the talent they were surrounded with.

You need to CAREFULLY re-read what I have been saying. I said you can't build a program with 3-stars ONLY. What part of ONLY dont you understand?

Do you really think Alabama wins the national title last year if you take away every 4* and 5* in the starting lineup and replace them with 3*'s?

Tennessee started 6 3* guys on their 98 national title team as well, but they sure as hell wouldn't have won a title if all 22 were 3*'s.

So you are saying we will never get four or five stars to complement our three's? Because that is completely false. You can have a solid foundation with talented three's, like Bama, and throw in a few elite talents and that has the potential to give you as many wins as anything. 5*'s do not equal success. They can help. They can also hurt. It is best just to find talent and character wherever you can, regardless of star count. Really overrated on here imo

The same time your team is #1 and undefeated all season long.

Exactly. Alabama couldn't have given a damn less about that game. Throw in having their best player declared ineligible right before the game and it only got worse.

so basically what you're saying is Saban can't coach through adversity to beat a lil ol untalented MWC team?

Its the staffs job to get their team ready to play. As we all know they had plenty of time. U play to win the game. They got their Bammer Yeller Hammer handed to them by a bunch of so called 3*'s and some of you make excuses for their loss. So who do you blame the Wyoming loss on??? Ill hang up and listen.

Tennessee should have enough talent to beat a doormat like Wyoming with its D- game. That's on the guy who can't get a job at Kansas, Louisville, or USF.

Nobody is saying Utah isn't talented. However, making claim that Utah beat Alabama with 3* talent is irrelevant.

Playing in a heated rivalry in mid-season with their title hopes remaining, is going to be infinitely harder than what Utah had to face against a dejected Alabama team.

Put Utah on Alabama's schedule in October, and Alabama wins. Put them across from Alabama within a month of them getting their national championship hopes obliterated, and Utah has a tremendously better chance to win.

So SGM, since I said its the coaches job to get his team ready to play (coach'em up), you blame Saban for the Utah loss and Fulmer for the Wyoming loss correct? With that said it shouldn't matter the time of year or the team. Ever team plays to win each time they suit up and take the field. UT or Bama neither quit or layed down in those losses, but both teams lost. Weither its Oct or Jan a loss is a loss. Every coach wants to win their bowl game. One for the money and 2 just as a positive note leading into the off season. Each had their chance but failed. Loss is a loss. Even to lesser talented teams.

It's obvious that Alabama came out of the locker room extremely fired up. They proved it by taking a 21-0 deficit. Saban's teams are seemingly known to drop 21 points on the board without scoring in big games. It's a clear indicator that Saban wanted that game more than most. I'm sure the disappointment of not playing OU the following week for something significant didn't play a factor, at all.

Oh, Saban certainly wanted to win that game. However, if his players don't share that sentiment, it doesn't matter. A coach can only do so much to motivate a team. There has to be some give-a-damn on the players' end too.

So Utah shouldn't have cared about that game because they were undefeated all season long?

Alabama's chances were far more significant that season. Utah was playing to make a statement that they could play with the "big boys" and that they deserved a share of the title. Alabama knew that their chance was gone in early December in ATL. Utah was still undefeated.
