This is looking like a Va. Tech Class

who cares? Bammer lost to a MWC team and I laughed. Saban should have gotten his team ready but I guess even the best get it wrong occasionally. The excuse of "we didn't care" just doesn't cut it no matter how many times you throw it out but it is pretty funny

It's not even worth arguing anymore. Some of you think Alabama went into the game giving it 110%. I don't. I'll agree to disagree.

Maybe it's because you're trying to argue that talent is everything while at the same time trying to discount an Alabama loss to a less talented team because of lack of motivation. You can't have it both ways chief. Talent can't be the only thing that matters if you're going to discount losses because they just didn't really care.

Talent isn't everything, I agree. Although, I'll take the better team, and the better coach the overwhelming majority of time in a game that actually means something. I'm just of the opinion that if Alabama and Utah had met the following week, Utah would never have seen a 21-0 lead that won them the game. Even Glen Coffee said UA didn't give Utah their respect coming into the game.

Alabama plays like Utah are the New England Patriots from the very beginning, if the end reward is the National Championship.

...and I'm not sure where I said "talent is everything". This has been a long debate, but I can't recall. Maybe I'm wrong.

Big difference between "not caring about the game" and not respecting your opponent, then getting beat by that inferior opponent

You should check into a reading comprehension class. If you interviewed individual players from Alabama before the game, they would say they didn't want to lose.

However, I really doubt Alabama players were crying in the locker room after losing to Utah. I seriously doubt it even bothered them. Certainly not to the degree that it would have any other game.

...and if you couldn't understand the comparison of the difference between the Sugar Bowl against Utah, and the National Championship vs Oklahoma. I can't help.

Look, XtennesseeX: We're both Vols fans, I love Donovan and the USMNT, and I really hope he returns to Everton. We're on the same team here.

If you want to question my reading comp skills, fair enough. Everything I posted in the comments you bolded were statements you made in previous posts.

Elisha Cuthbert's comment still stands. Star power, motivation, whatever. . . Alabama should have obliterated Utah the way that Florida did Cincinnati the next year.

The rest of Bama's starting O-line and their one backup OL >> Utah's first string d-linemen

I'm not saying Andre not being there was the reason Bama lost.

Just saying he cared so much about the game he took money from an agent and was ineligible.

This whole argument is sad though.

Tennessee shouldn't be compared to Utah ever.

True, however what I posted wasn't a contradiction like you were making them out to be. There is a difference between saying you want to win the game, and at the end of the day not caring about losing it. Ask an NFL team locked into the playoffs whether or not they want to win the game on week 17. They'll say yes. Does that mean when they lose, they honestly care? No.

That is the simple difference in my saying that Alabama didn't want to lose, but when they did, I doubt they were upset like they had just lost something important. No team is going to go into a game wanting to lose. It doesn't mean they're going to come running out of the gates like a raging bull wanting to win either.

It's all speculation by me that had Alabama been playing for something significant, a Saban coached team isn't coming out flat and trailing 21-0 before you blink.

It doesn't make me right, it's a hypothetical situation.

It is, and I took part in it. My whole original intent was to point out that upsets happen in meaningless bowl games. I've tried to explain why Alabama might have not taken the game as serious as they would, had they had anything to play for.

I might be wrong, Alabama might have come out swinging and Utah was just that much better. However, I don't see it. Some do, though.

I'm not comparing UT to Utah. Utah strives to beat TCU, UT better be striving to win SEC Championships. I'm just laughing at the fact that people think Bama had any excuse for losing that game

At minimum, my argument of the past couple of pages would have been solved had we had a four team playoff. Oh well...

I'm not saying you are, but people do it when arguing about recruiting.

Fact is, we aren't going to compete with Bama or Florida this year. 1) We need depth in a bad way, so you take the guarantees such as 3 stars(which aren't bad at all, in my opinion). 2) UT is on it's third coaching staff in three years. Recruits want to see if there is a little stability in place now before they pledge to the university.

this..i been saying that..you need depth,no time to wait and possibly miss out on players you dont have a strong chance at

unless you get them to visit..then its a new ballgame

Here's the difference between the 3* we have and when Saban recruits a 3*

At the moment, Saban's track record>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Dooley's track record.

That may change. But still, when Saban gets a 3*, he has shown that he can take that talent and make them big-time. We don't know yet with Dooley.

Exactly. If Saban offers a 0* player, I'll be convinced he's found a diamond in the rough. Dooley hasn't shown anything to get the same benefit of the doubt yet.

The convo is about teams that stack their roster with *3 stars and are conpetetive because of character and coaching. Again read first before replying.

Sounds like my team.

Same thing can be said of Utah year before last. I just can't seem to remember that one team that felt Utah didn't belong in the BCS Bowl game year before last. Now who was that??? LOL

Or a Boise Statish type class perhaps?

So when Saban built up L.S.U. then those kids were recruited by Dooley as well......not sure I'm following your logic...unless your meaning only at Bama perhaps.

It was A BCS game. Of course they cried. It was the last game that some would ever play. Not only that but they were EMBARASSED!!!

I'm not worried about stars, as much as what other schools are recruiting the kid... It's tough out there right now for UT.... It is what it is, and with an unproven staff kids aren't going to come running like they would if a big name coach with a proven record were here coaching. It's going to be a rough season or two at least before we really know where we are headed. Not getting a big name coach sets us back longer, but not sure who else we could have gotten.
