What about bama?
Or MTSU?
MTSU shoots a higher percentage against the Sun Belt Conference. They have really great players for that level of competition.
And I don't know where you got Alabama's percentage. If you're going off players listed as guards, the percentage is .374. If you're adding JaMychal Green (6'8") and Tony Mitchell (6'6"), those are forwards, and had more shots around the basket.
Their guards who play...
Releford 48%
Randolph 39%
Lacey 41%
Steele 49%
Those are their 4 guards, please tell me where you get they shoot 37.4%
You aren't counting Cooper (.384) and Hankerson Jr. (.360). And I counted Eblen because he played in 88 percent of the games this year, even though he only averaged 7 minutes. He still played in nearly every game, and I felt like he should be counted.
But if you don't count Eblen, they shoot .418, which isn't THAT much better than us.
If you have players that can dribble and penetrate, everyone shoots better.
We handle the ball like a hs jv team, so help D isnt necessary, therefore you have less open looks.
Spot on! That is why, IMO, out biggest need is a difference-maker at SG or SF (preferably SG). Someone who can shoot 40%+ from three, can take his man off the dribble, and can get to the basket at will.
That is our most glaring weakness. Another PG would be nice, but we at least have one. Same with post players. But, we have no one on either wing that is a consistent threat to score whenever they want.

that would be one hell of a get. most teams would love someone like this
Right now we have Edwards and Reese coming in. Edwards is 6' 6" and Reese is 6' 8". Edwards is listed as a PG. That's pretty damn tall for a PG.
Reese is supposedly a great outside shooter. I don't follow recruiting much if it all. I wonder if Martin is going to go the juco route for a guard or stick with the 4 year guys.
I know Landry had committed, but we don't get him until 2013. Too bad he couldn't come in this year. Golden needs some help. Hopefully, Edwards will provide it and, most importantly, handle the ball.

1. Who ever says Edwards is a PG is wrong, he's a SF.
2. Reese doesn't excite me the least but, and i go to bed every night praying I wake up to read he goes to prep school. Averaged 9ppg as a senior in hs, an a you said is supposed to be an outside shooter, yet shot like 23% from the HS 3pt line.
3. He has offered juco PG Fabyon Harris. I WANT I WANT I WANT I WANT.....difference maker( see Pierre Jackson of Baylor)
That's what I get for reading the recruiting articles. I thought he was too big to be a PG unless he's a Magic Johnson clone.
The write up on Reese said he could fill it up from outside. I don't know what his HS competition is like though. Again, I don't follow recruiting because I think it's a waste of time over someone you may not get. Since we got those guys, I'll defer to someone who follows it.
Anyone seen these guys actually play?
How many schollies does Martin have left? 1? Harris sounds like the exact guy I thought Martin might try to get. A juco PG with some experience. If we are going to rely on another freshman PG to come in and relieve Golden then we will be disappointed.
I'm happy about Edwards. Hes a juco with experience and I expect him to come in and push McRae for the starting 3 spot. Imagine tatum without the dumb turnovers. Hell probably give you 10 and 6 a night.
Reese didn't play against juggernauts, and the fact that he only put up 9ppg in HS at any level concerns me. As I said, I really hope to see him go the prep route.
As of now we have 0 scholarships left. I fully expect that to change though. IMO Wes or Dwight will be transferring. Then you also have the Kenny situation which I expect him to return. Plus, the Reese possibly to prep school situation as well. I'd expect atleast 1 more scholarship to come open.
IMO Harris would be a HUGE pickup. He will make this team so much better because what getting him results in. He can start at point and move Trae to the 2. Immediately we become a better ball handling, scoring and defensive team. This also creates a log jam at the 3 with McRae, Richardson, Edwards an chievous all having to really compete for PT.
I think Miller and Washpun may be transferring next year although Miller has already transferred from Pitt so he might just sit another year and take up space. If Chievous couldn't get playing time this year, I don't know when he will be able to.
As much as I've dogged Hall, we need him back. He'll be a Sr and hopefully have something to prove. His presence could've won us the Ole Miss and the game last night. At the least, he could've given Maymon and Stokes more rest.
Richardson needs to add some weight to his frame and work on his offense. His defense is pretty good coming out of HS, but he got beat a number of times off the dribble and had trouble fighting through picks last night. I think he'll be a poor man's Darius Miller by the time he's a Sr. He'll never have the offense of a Miller, but has the chance to be as good of a defender.
That's 5% better than our guards.
Your talking 5-8 ppg difference. That wouldn't have helped this year?
And actually if you add up all those players fg and fg attempts instead of using averages, they average about 43% fg.
My point was just that if we aren't as talented as those other teams. We really don't have anyone that can break down defenses to give his teammates better looks. Those other teams have those players. That's really the difference in my opinion.
