This Kentucky team could...

Not saying you but 75% of UK fans I've met care about football for about 3-4 games, not sure I'd call that loyal. Lol I do have respect for the real fans that care all year no matter whatm

I'm from the heart of Kentucky. Lexington. No matter how bad the team is, people always talk about it. Maybe not as much as basketball, but it has had good support. UK has made every step, every indication that the program should be moving forward. Fans see all these amazing things happening, yet we are still sitting here watching a complete joke of a product on the field. I don't know how we have any fans left based on the last fifty years, because outside a few years, we're nothing.

I have said this a few times . If Kentucky ran a option style offense then I believe they could be a 6 win team every so many years

We just need to start using a WR at QB...seemed to work the last time we did it.

Maybe even go back to the type of stuff we did with Cobb. I know it's limiting, and players like him are special, but geez, it's been a tragedy watching the QB spot at UK since Hartline left.

I was going to say you are just being a homer then decided against it, till I saw you said "MAYBE not as much as basketball" Now I say STFU homer. Lol I think you all got tricked a little with that 15 or 18 or whatever class. I think most fans got excited at a top 15 or whatever ranking without realizing it was like 8th in the SEC, which really is what's important. Just think keep Bear Bryant and you might be Alabama right now. Lol

Funny story... Kinda. You all trotted out the WR at QB, no lie I look at the guys I'm watching with and say this will be the year we lose. Just seemed fitting for Dooley.

I've said it many times but I'm glad we didn't. I can't see us hiring Briles either...and like said, it's probably a knee jerk from the fans (including myself), who somewhat halfheartedly said we'd take him. The more I think the more I regret ever saying it.

Glad you didn't hire Pitrino?

Then you deserve to suck

Well evidently we're so dirty hiring Cal...might as well hire a scumbag like Briles too.

/sarcasm

I don't think it'll happen in reality. It's probably a kneejerk reaction to how bad we are right now and we'd eventually regret it. Our AD is usually smart...we'll see what happen.

Your Cal fixation is embarrassing. I haven't brought Cal up a single time. I, again, care nothing about Cal in the context of this conversation.

I don't care what state your program is in or what the reality of the situation is. You, as a fan, to support hiring Briles after what happened under his watch at Baylor is inexcusable. He can't even grasp what he's apologizing for.

Also, your AD handed out an extension with an eight figure buyout to a 7-11 coach in the middle of his second season. He's an idiot.

UL has a great coach, and the coach before was also a great coach. UL knew how to recruit, and even more importantly, knew how to develop talent (NFL talent galore). For all the crap I could give UL for being the dumpster it is, Jurich (the AD) knows what he is doing.

I wouldn't call him great. But he's good at coaching/drawing up plays offensively.

UK missed the window when they could have hired Petrino and didn't.

It's probably for them long run that they didn't.

Nick Saban is a first class douche and he's doing well at Bama. Same goes for Petrino at Louisville. Sometimes you just have to overlook a coach's personality and just focus on his coaching skills.

It's a bit more than just personality with that one, though.

Considering Cal has never been implicated in the Camby/Rose situations...Not sure it's the most accurate to compare the two.

I agree. However, when Cal was at Memphis the majority of UK fans thought he was "a cheating scumbag" (to quote most of the comments I saw over at Rupps' Rafters), right up until the moment he said he was going to Lexington. Then 99% of the same posters who were vilifying him as the biggest cheater in college baskeball were suddenly saying the same thing as above -"Cal was never implicated in the Camby/Rose issues."

Don't get me wrong. The UK fanbase reacted no differently than another other fanbase would in a similar situation (especially when you look at all of the UK fans screaming for the school to pay the $18m to buy out Stoops and his assts. and hire Art Briles), but it is funny to listen to so many of them deny they ever said bad things about Cal prior to him going to UK.

It's not that we aren't winning 9 or 10 games. We don't expect to recruit top 10. No one is asking or demanding that. It's that we finally make huge upgrades to the program and we somehow are looking as bad as when the program had terrible support from the school and fans. Can we at least not look like a bunch of morons on the field?

Of course it isn't like basketball. We have the best basketball program in NCAA history, so it's a 24/7, 365 type deal. But to act like fans are indifferent is crazy. 50,000 fans showed up for a spring game. Unfortunately, the good vibes in Lexington since the middle of year two though has slowly gone downhill.

Of course. I was too young to be involved in any of the bad mouthing of Cal when he was at other schools. And with a fanbase like UKs, we always try to defend our people when we can (except Rex, smh). So I understand the perception from the outside, because most (all really) of us are biased to defend someone like Cal now that he's here.

I generally try to approach subjects as objectively as possible. I honestly try to read and figure out the truth, instead of jumping on a hateful bandwagon that's full of opinion rather than fact. Calipari is cheesy, even sleazy sounding sometimes, as they come. He's like a used-car salesman and he definitely isn't an elite on-the-floor coach. Cal looks out for Cal (which is why he left his previous jobs imo). I don't think he's any more clean than any of the other successful coaches right now. Just don't see the evidence to back up the claims thrown around.

I never started talking about Cal until he was brought up and then you interjected with the "really" comment.

Our AD handed out an extension to a coach who was 5-2 I believe, and had just played against the #1 team in the nation, and only lost by 14. Along with being a razors edge from beating UF, at UF. Stoops had recruited better than UK ever saw. The program was being supported by the school like never before. So I don't necessarily believe our AD was idiot for offering an extension...Hindsight it looks way worse though. And I can't really disagree that it was too soon and far too much. But had we finished with 6 or 7 wins, and continued momentum into 2015, we'd be talking about something else.

Most fanbases will defend their HC as long up until the moment he is no longer their HC. I defended some of Kiffin's BS while he was our coach despite some of the incredible nonsense that came out of his mouth.

So LC, I talked to a Kentucky fan at work who said the word is that Shannon Dawson was picking up defensive signals from UK because they were the same as last year, and therefore USM knew what UK was running defensively in the second half. Have you heard this?

I heard some jokes about it. Not sure if it was serious or not.

I liked it better when Vandy was the worst team in the league. No clue how Louisville can get done what UK cannot.

I honestly agree. It's bad enough having Vandy be annual deadweight, but adding Kentucky to the national roster of things to talk @#$# about the Sec East is not helpful.

...when's it not been, especially recently, though? Vanderbilt has more recently even been less of a deadweight (2012, 2013 were 9-win seasons, plus another bowl in 2011...and one 2008 I think?) than UK in football.
