This Missouri Game is one of the most important we’ve ever had…

Even with a high noon start time, it appears the battle will be waged in Missouri style weather.

You know we have a bunch of front-running soft pumpkins who will be dumping tickets by late week.

On Senior Day, no less

**** 50 degrees jn November is football weather. Get back to me when it’s below freezing but that could be my inner midwesterner who sat there in battleship gray skies watching the wolverines take on the Buckeyes…

I know, but it is indeed all relative.

I'm seeing a high of 49. Kickoff temp more 44ish with 15-20 mph wind. I'm afraid that will be just cold enough, coupled with the early start time, to keep the last 10,000 from filling their seats.

Sometimes it takes a solid gut punch, or a dozen, to wake you up. Our guys failed to execute across the board, they know it and that loss stung hard because of it. They will move on but the memory of that sting is something they don’t want to feel again.

Mizzou has a good defense that played well against the dawgs. If you don’t think our guys have something to prove against that defense and team, especially after last Saturday, you haven’t been paying attention to where this team’s mindset has been this season.

I really expect the Vols to correct the mistakes, be dominant in the next 3 games and beat them all worse than the dawgs did. Just to prove the Georgia game was a one off bad day to themselves and everyone else, playoff committee included. Style points matter from now on out and the Vols know it. No mercy!

Why?

This Tennessee football team is good. Actually, this team has been excellent.

I genuinely believe the team that played in Athens was not the team that played every other game this season.

Yes, Georgia’s defense looked good and they executed the plan.

I think more than Georgia being good—was that we choked. Hooker is the leader of this team and he choked. He’s human. He’s the best player in the country and the reason we smoked LSU, beat Alabama, and Florida, and Kentucky, and Pitt etc—but he had a back to earth moment against UGA.

I think we were legit going to have a slug fest until that punt changed the game. They pinned us, and that was like putting blood in the water. And they just kept punching us and punching us and we were stunned with the crowd and the spotlight. If we don’t get pinned there, I think we have a decent drive and pop them in the nose after getting a stop and the entire trajectory of the game changes.

How is that relevant to the Missouri game?

Well, we got rattled. Sports is mental as much as it’s physical. Right now this team can go in two different directions and that’s going to be 100% on the mental toughness of the men on this team and the coaches to get them out of the downward spiral.

Missouri is a good team that actually had Georgia on the ropes. It’s the perfect barometer for where we’re going to go this season.

Hooker needs to lead this team with effective drives and extreme efficiency here on out. That young man is a leader. And I know he’s not happy with what happened against UGA, and I know he’s going to want another crack at them.

Therefore the season starts over this Saturday. We are 100% still in the hunt. The team that beat us on Saturday had the SAME EXACT THING HAPPEN TO THEM—in the SEC championship. They got absolutely dominated by Bama and everyone said—1980 lol Georgia is always going to be a second tier school lol underperforming Georgia lol always doing less with more Georgia—and then what happened in the playoff??? They absolutely cracked Michigan in the jaw. And then punked Alabama in the national championship.

I think we have the talent and the players to do the same thing. Rocky lost in Rocky I. In Rocky II, he came back by not quitting and he ended up being the champ.

How we respond the rest of the season defines us as potential champions and our entire program. Let’s get hype on the comeback. Hey Syri—play Eye of the Tiger.

Go Vols.
From his presser Hendon looks locked in. I saw fire in his eyes.

Choked? No. UGA is a great team. Two very good teams faced off. Both put pressure on the other. UGA found ways to respond well. UT did not. "Choke" carries a connotation that UT somehow underperformed for no good reason. They did underperform but UGA gave them lots of reasons.

UGA made Hooker indecisive. That was intentional. And honestly it was something that Hooker has not faced at UT. Tough to have a loss to get that experience but he can now work on a weakness that had not been exposed. Heupel can work on ways to respond better to the kinds of pressure UGA brought. The D has 3 games to continue to improve.

The Vols need to work on becoming better while IMO also playing for "style points" in these last 3 games. If they can put 60 points on them... the Vols should do it.

UT still needs help even if they do everything right from here on out. If one of these last 3 manages to keep it close... then UT isn't getting into the playoff.

They’re not as bad as you’re suggesting. I think we should wax them. But then again I don’t know how long you’ve been a Vol fan…
Yeah. They really are. They're "good" on D. Not great. Definitely NOT good enough to stop UT's O if the Vols play up to their typical standard.

They're pretty awful on offense. Great chance for the D to continue developing and take another step forward.

LOL... Do what? Sunny and 55 is about as ideal as it gets for a fall football game.

I live about an hour from CoMo. We're getting our first truly cold weather on Friday when a front moves in just in time for deer season. Until then, our highs are going to be in the 60's and 70's. It may break 80 on Wednesday.

You guys who think Missouri has North Dakota weather... need to learn more. Winters here aren't too much worse than say Bristol or Boone. We don't get as many warm breaks because the Gulf Stream doesn't reach us as much... but winter highs below 20 are fairly rare.

Let’s bring the noise like we’ve done for Bama, Florida and Kentucky. It made a difference in all 3 games

I once spent three weeks in March working near Missouri River north of Kansas City. Spent time on both sides, but more on Kansas side.

The temps didn't seem that bad. But, the wind absolutely carved us up.

I do realize that is a flat part of the country.

Watching Chiefs last night, the fans and coaches looked cold. Heavy coats.

We are going to decapitate Mizzu......

We will not call off the dogs. We will not send in the 2nd string. To get back into the playoffs, we need to make GA look like a fluke. We need to hang 65 on everybody from here on out. Every game from here on out is a statement game.

Yeah. The wind sucks no matter where you are in the center part of the country. OKC is the absolute worst place I've ever been in every imaginable way. Cold, windy, hot, dusty, tornadoes, mud,... and sometimes all in the same day.

People are funny. This time of year 50 is cold. In January, it will be short sleeve weather.

Weather is almost perfect for deer season though. Deer have to eat more and move around more when it is cold. We need to thin the herd this year at my place. They decimated my corn and the neighbors'. I don't depend on it for anything more than paying taxes and upkeep but some folks lose part of their income when deer overpopulate an area.

It's our last home game and Senior Day. This is the best year these seniors have seen, much less imagined. They're gonna turn Mizzou into a smoking hole in the ground knowing they're playing their last game in Neyland Stadium. There is no other option as far as these seniors are concerned.

We are badly overrun with deer, and armadillo, in southern middle Tennessee.

Somehow, we need to thin the herds of both groups.

Armadillos are all over Southern Missouri. We've started counting them on the Interstate when we drive down to Springfield. I've counted 15-20 dead ones every time on the side of I-44.

They lost to Auburn, Kansas State, and UK. It’s Senior Day, Vols will be focused, pissed, and out to prove a point.
