This team really isn’t hungry

This feels like 2016 all over again.
The only difference being that we don’t have the weapons of ‘16. That team should’ve been in the hunt for a NC. I never expected anywhere near that this season. But yes, from a heart and response to adversity standpoint, this year is reminiscent of 2016.

We lack true leadership on both sides of the ball.
There's also a saying that a team is a direct reflection of the head coach. Having said that, I'm of a mind that it's only fair to allow a head coach the opportunity to flip the roster he inherited. When Heupel has a roster filled with his kids, that's when I'll be more certain of what we have in Heupel as a head coach. He's recruiting well. He's got us dreaming of making playoffs and getting into New Years 6 bowls instead of hoping to be bowl eligible so there's progress in the right direction, but many more games like this and the ship is certainly going to start veering off course.

To win. They, once again, with a lot to play for simply don’t show up.

Last year they had the opportunity to make history ( first 4 team playoff berth) and let a half wit distort their focus.

Most of these guys playing were recruited by Pruitt & probably never had any hope of really winning anything. Tennessee needs to play the younger guys more. I’ll take crap like today if I see 6-7 young guys out there but playing a bunch of seniors getting their ass kicked in the OL, beat on defense disappoints me.
You can blame it on the players if you want to. I saw it different, we were out schemed by mizzou coaches maybe, the worst I have seen in a long time. I thought our coaches would correct it at half time but they didn't. Did you notice that every time their quarterback needed to run we had no one to his right to stop him. Mizzou blocked our defenders to the middle leaving no one to his right to stop him. It happened many times but two that stand out are the two times we had them on the goal line 3rd down and ten. He ran for first downs both times.

This. No offense to Joe or any other player, but just because someone is “liked” by the team doesn’t mean they are a leader. We’re lacking that on the offensive side. I thought Beasley would be the guy on defense and to an extent he is. Just don’t have a really good defense top to bottom, though. We’ve been whipped several times.

They seem to have a problem overcoming adversity, especially on the road. Things snow ball and all of a sudden the game is out of hand. It happened tonight just like the UF game. I'm hoping a new QB will help. Not trying to hate on Joe. He has made major strides this year and tonight wasn't his fault. But the difference in the mentality of the team with Milton under Center vs Hook is plain to see.
Milton is a back-up. Not a starter.

Shades of ‘16 USCe and Vandy.
mmmm, nah. Mizzou is much better than either of those teams in 2016. Its still not a good look considering how we lost, but in that vandy game particularly, there was zero effort. I listened to that vandy game on the radio and I have never heard Tim Priest as angry as that game. He was spitting mad. The team wasnt even trying to tackle according to him.

Don't get me wrong, this Mizzou game was a fiasco and the worst game of the Heupel era IMO, but Mizzou is at least a good team this year. USCe and particularly vandy stunk in 2016.

Austin Price said at a certain point a lot of the older players didn’t want to be out there. I’d identify those players and remove them.
Cancers get them on the bench play the young-ins.. play the guys with heart and no quit and start building leaders for next year.. tired of the Milton show also but got to play him, what I would do is play 2 quarterbacks whomever has the hot hand stays in there kinda like what he does with the RB’s.

After the first half of the upcoming Georgia game, i’d be fine never seeing Milton in a UT uniform again.

There are a number of dumb posts on this board, but I had to respond to this one because it's especially laughable.

We are losing to Georgia even if we start someone else at QB. Period. Milton has 3 games left in his career at UT, so your assertion that if we are behind in the first half it's all on Milton in advance of the game is ridiculous. The fact that he only has a few game left in his UT career won't fix allowing a team a 20 play 11 minute drive, or to slash us for 50 yards in 16 seconds.

Even Troy Fleming said, let's face it we will lose next week. Yesterday's game revealed a lot of question marks across the board. Everything was on the line and I just didn't see the laser focus required to win tough games. Missing the toughness of Bru, and the versatility of Pili was obvious yesterday. Next week being in Neyland may be the only reason we stay in the game early but at some point our inability to make stops will be our undoing because UGA will stop this offense. Just like they did last year with Hooker.

You assume too much from my post. I’d give him reps against a top tier defense in the second half. I also wouldn’t mind starting Nico against vandy. The season is over at this point.

Yes, the only thing remaining is pride and continue to work for a 2nd tier bowl. There is still some good destinations for the players but they aren't fighting for much else right now.

There is some innate in players and coaches that you can't put your finger on that makes them play like champions. All great teams have it. It's the intangibles. It's in the deep recesses of the brain that turns on. It's more than talent. Sometimes you don't or might not know that its even there if you haven't experienced it. I don't think our program has that right now. It tells you I'm not hitting that gap hard enough because I'm playing scared or not being physical enough against the lineman. I'm not going to miss the RB running out into the flats again. Thoughts about how you need to us fundamentals in the open field when the time comes instead of reaching and overcommitting. All difficult things but things that are practiced and must be done.
