1. Global warming (Tennessee is bracing for more sub-freezing temps going into late next week)

2. The panic created over the swine flu (I haven't heard anything newsworthy about the swine flu since October)

As far as your number 1, that is why they changed their wording to climate change. So anytime the weather is different they can say, see humans are destroying the earth so we need to kill the major powers' economies.

Well, I guess the fact that we've had a couple of snowstorms completely abolishes the idea of global warming?? You do realize, it's a PROCESS that takes tens of thousands of years to complete as a cycle. It's been scientifically proven that the earth goes through cold periods(ice ages) and warm periods(where we're at right now). It's like a pendulum, only it swings at a much slower rate. BTW, this is an El Nino winter, it isn't uncommon for the southern United States to receive more snowfall than other winters.:thumbsup:

I say a news report today where some guy stated that all the snow was because of global warming! And not to forget the brilliant guy that said 18 months ago that it would never snow again in New York because of global warming!

Alabama was hit pretty hard by the pig flu - I got it at the beginning of December and it was the sickest I've ever been.

Sales of Purell doubled though so maybe they were behind it - I bet Cheney secretly works for the makers of Purell.

Tens of millions of people were going to die! It was going to be bigger than the Spanish Influenza! We must get vaccinated!

I think the inference is that the government producers of the H1N1 vaccine were to gain from that...or maybe just as a smokescreen for the piss poor president.

Are you kidding me? It was a smock screen when the pres was trying to push "healthcare bill" through congress and get it signed. The only reason why it did not pass was because the polls were down on it so many votes did not say Yes. So the liberal news was spreading the "pig flu" through the news to try to avoid the healthcare debate that was causing a storm in congress. Just thank god that bill was murder when we got our boy into congress.

Has nothing to do with the winter, has more to do with people waking up and realizing that the government is just wanting more money and control. If they get enough people to believe that man is changing the weather, not just the temperature, then they will be able to have more control over our daily lives. Thank goodness though that more and more American's are realizing that the weather changes and their is nothing we are doing to cause it and there is nothing that we can do to change it. Now, that being said, I'm all about a cleaner planet.

I think when they talk about global warming they are talking about weather trends over a period of many years. You may have spikes and dips but overall they are saying that the trend is upward. Now the question is, to me at least, are we significantly contributing to the warming of our planet. I also wonder why so much attention is being directed toward GW and not other pollution issues. We are very creative in our ways of polluting, why is global warming the rallying cry? As for swine flu, you really can't say what a virus is going to do when it passes between species. Scientists can look at the similarities between a potential (new) threat and other lethal flu pathogens (which have caused serious problems in the past). They can use that information and make an educated guess but they don't know for sure if its going to evolve into a mild strain or a more serious strain of flu. I guess this time they decided to err on the side of caution. I think the scare did help our health care system (and possibly the worlds) prepare for a more serious threat though.
