Making the NIT in modern day college basketball could never be considered a success. This is not 1978. Every one that has a pulse gets in.
I'll take it. It means a winning record and finishing in the top third of all NCAA teams. That after losing 6 of the first 7 players from the previous year and 6 of the 10 regular players in the rotation this year being freshmen. If the NIT is the floor in a down cycle, that's being pretty successful.
