Thompson - Boring arena ....

I've only been to a couple of TBA games and that was before the renovation (Pearl's first year). Even then the place was packed yet not nearly as intense as you'd think. I actually see much more intensity from Vol fans when they play at Vandy. Maybe it's because they are the minority there but still.

Although the team could help out a bit as well, sometimes it's hard to get hyped up when the team doesn't give you a lot to cheer about.

I went to games under Houston, O'neill, Peterson, and if you think it's bad now, there was basically no atmosphere whatsoever when those guys were there. Pearl definitely has his faults, but I'll give him props to getting fans back, and while the fans aren't as loud as they maybe should be, the atmosphere at games today is an unbelievable improvement over what it used to be.

Not alot of students? Look at the crowd today. The endzone section will be full and the student section in the corner will go all the way up the upper deck.

Well, for one thing, there are probably <1,500 students at that game, but since the gym holds 8,000, it appears to be a TON of students.
Also, it's not so much the lack of students at our games, it's the positioning of said students. If we had our students positioned like at Duke (all along the sideline), it would be consistently intense, and because of them standing, the rest of the crowd would have to stand. But since front-row seats can go for so much money, UT would be flushing profit down the drain.

That's . . . pretty much it. Plus the fact that Cameron is a LOT smaller than people think it is. Pretty sure the capacity is around 8-9,000.

In a 24,000 seat arena, I'm not sure it really matters where you put the students. If the crowd isn't 20,000+, the place is going to seem dead.

Once again people will claim there will be a weak student section, and once again they'll be wrong.

no more!!!!
Well Volnation, for those who are attending the game tomorrow are you going to help support our players or are you going sit and stare at the court until the coaches beg you to stand?? The game vs. the lamecocks tomorrow is huge considering our next two opponents. The vols need an electric atmosphere from the get go. College players feed of the atmosphere of the crowd so yes you can have an impact over the game. Standing up and cheering is not disrespectful to the other players nor is to the people sitting around you. Go enjoy the game loosen up and have fun you may enjoy the game more if you just let loose a little. I don't want to hear you have nothing to cheer for either. This is a huge SEC game what’s not to cheer for. I had T's made for my friends that say on the back "NO, You Stand Up and Cheer!" so if you see this on someone’s back don't bother I will sit down when I’m good and ready or when were on offense. Go Vols bring the noise!!! :yahoo:

I want be able to attend the game today but if I could I would cheer for the vols, but not because you say so, if I choose to lay out the money to attend the game I would take a nap if I wanted too I'm tired of people on this forum telling me how to act when I go to the game.

So if I told you to dye your hair orange and cut it into a mohawk you probably wouldn't do it?

That is because alot of old people 75 percent of the lower section seats are gotten by season ticket holders between the age of 50 and 70.or by businesses that give them to employes and half the time the ones that go dont really like any sports.hell since they put the boxed seats in they lost over 3000 seats.and its been really hard to get tickets.to get good seats you have to donate between 2500 and10,000 dollars.and my credit card has been maxed out when season tickets have went on sale the last two years.even if my card has plenty of money on it .the best season tickets you can get is is upper leval 12 rows back to the wall.id have to win the lottery to every get the seats i had loftens junior year i had asiel seats on the 17 row behind the vols bench .good year to have them there i got to see ut win every home game including one of my favorite games when kevin durant and texas came in and took it on the chin.go vols!!

That's some creative punctuation work. I have never seen the period done that way before.

That was one of the more disappointing showings by the fans this season. Good turn out, but absolutely zero noise. Weak crowd. What the hell was with people cheering for Downey when he was taken out of the game at the end?

I have never donated a dime, but i go to almost all of the games. Lower level tickets are on ebay, craigslist, Clarke at select ticket service will set you up and none of these will require you to break the bank. I bought lower level tickets face value last row for......drum role please.......face value pair $50 buck.. Go Vols!

Hard to criticize the crowd's intensity for a game like that. It was absolutely putrid at the beginning and then turned into a yawner by halftime.

We have a close game to start and we can't get loud and help motivate the players because all the shots are not going in and they are not exciting enough. If we run away from a team it's a yawner and we can't get loud. WOW. My son said what a great game dad we could finally enjoy a big win instead of a nail biter. I guess some are never happy. :banghead2:

What? I didn't think we had a choice. This board told me to, so I did... Oh well, work will be fun with an OrangeHawk on Tuesday....

By the by, this team sucks, why did they only win by 26? They should have won by 40, then done my laundry, and solved the energy crisis.

The students and fans in TBA are so pathetic, you would think they had to pay for their tickets or something. When we're up by 20, that's when you really start lettin' the other team have it, with chants like, "just like football", or whatever.

I'm so down on this team, I have to go to another thread and complain all night about it. Gawd, I hate being this disappointed all the time.....

TB has never been the best environment for basketball. There are NBA arenas with more intimate atmosphere. Even with all the seating changes made since Pearl has been here, it's still a general purpose facility.

I'm pretty sure the student section did a just like football chant.

Part of the reason, IMO, is that Thompson Boling is so much bigger than many other arenas. Everything is so spread out. Of course, there are other arenas that have a high capacity as well, but still. Thompson Boling is built more like a NBA arena than a college.

I don't make many games, living in WTN, but it does piss me off when I do go and constantly get told to sit down. If I want to stand, I will stand. I'm not going to ask you to stand while there, but if you want to see over me, then I guess you will have to.

OT: One thing that really stuck out to me in the past was in the 07 SEC Championship Game (football) against LSU. You constantly heard fans constantly *****ing about people standing up.

He is a phenomenal player, and he played well yesterday. Why wouldn't we?
It wouldn't happen if we are losing and I don't recall hearing the fans cheer for an opposing player for being substituted out of the game(unless it was for an injury). I see it as largely unnecessary, but whatever floats your boat.

I thought he was solid, he was lighting it up from outside. But I don't think he played a great game at all, we did a pretty good job on him for the most part. The officials were ridiculous with the calls for him. Horn should've just told him to drive the lane looking for contact every possession, with how they were calling the game for him who knows how much he could've scored. Regardless, it's been obvious that he's a fantastic guard for his entire career. If he wasn't all South Carolina would have a solid team.
