First of all congrats:hi: I know y'all have been waiting a while for this one and it's gotta feel pretty special.

Y'all came out with more energy than us and we shot ourselves a few times and deserved to lose this one:banghead2:.

A few thoughts:

-North is a big time talent. Wish we had gotten him...I remember we were in his top 5 there for a while.

-Impressed by your defense as well. They are much better than last year.

-Hope Clowney made some people believers today. He won the battle up front against Tiny and looked like the superstar that he is. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of Tiny. I think he's 1st round talent and one of the better OL's I've seen.

Now join in me in rooting against Clemson tonight. Good luck the rest of the way.

Yeah Clowney was a one man machine today - awesome skills, and all the more so since he was up against Tiny.

Hope Shaw comes back full strength for you guys and GL in rest of season!

Know what doesn't feel special? Having to feel special just for beating South Carolina. Pretty soon, irrelevance will once again be your domain.

Thanks a bunch.

I believed Clowney was the Real Deal WAY before todays game. Best Defender in CFB no question.

Interested to know your thoughts on Spurrier using 2 timeouts on the 4th down late in the game. I had no idea what he was doing - did you?

It seemed most of Clowney's forays into the backfield where when he wasn't Tiny's assignment (Downs or Downs and an RB or Clowney stunted inside),may have beat him some. I wasn't as engrossed in that matchup as others and seems all the action was toward the South endzone and I was toward the North so hard for me to see at times. Jawaun James seemed to hold his own against him pretty well.

Regardless, Clowney has special talent and was disruptive with his speed coming off the edge and around. He still looked really good, don't know how much of it was against Tiny as he pushed him around and away from the pocket when Clowney rushed from the outside edge on 3rd and longs a bit. I think they both have a chance to do well and make some money at the next level

Edit: our oline seemed to blow some assignments early though too so maybe Clowney was his and just that fast so didn't look like it and yes, rooting against that ugly orange of Clemson!

Great win against a great team. Funny how this is the day of upsets, but none-the-less this one feels like the best victory. I truly believe South Carolina is a better team than LSU.

On the youtube of Coach Spurrier's press conference a lot of people are on him pretty hard in the comments. I dont get that. He took responsibility for his coaching mistakes and was straight up about the mistakes his team made. I dunno.. I just didnt like it. Im a TN fan and its funny how much I dislike Spurrier and like him all at the same time.

Read he thought we would come out in punt return and if we did he would quick count to get 1st down against that formation. But ole Butch sent out base defense both times!! Vols were ready both times!! Pure cat and mouse and CBJ won that one!!!

Good post, OP. I saw some decision "slippage" by the ole ball coach today. May want to keep a watch on him. But both sides had some questionable play calling on offense.

Clowney is top of the first round talent without question. I don't think Tiny is ready for the first round, but the NFL drafts on potential. Clowney ate him up today.

From our perspective Walls and McCullers from our d-line racked up as good or better stats than Clowney. If that continues we could continue to make some noise.

Good luck the rest of the season.

Classy post from OP. Thanks for that.

After last weekend's performance by SC, I really didn't think the Vols had much chance even if they played well.

After the last five years, I just knew the snap was going to be bobbled on that last field goal attempt.

Maybe, just maybe, this is the game that helps the Vols make the climb back to respectability. In order to do that, we had to beat a respectable opponent.

Hope that Shaw is ok. Hate to see anyone get hurt.

FSU is just making Clemson look pedestrian.

Barring upsets, there will be a clamor for a 4 team playoff this year for 1 team each from SEC, PAC 12, Big Ten, and ACC this year. Bama, Oregon, FSU, and OSU

If he'd just punted away and saved the TOs, he would have had about a minute left after Palardy's kick which is more than enough time to drive and get in FG range.

Clowney had 5 total tackles 2.5 for a loss. Many times Tiny was not on him. I also believe after rewatching the reason we kept running to him and letting him come untouched was by design. We wore him down by attacking him and making him run too much. Go back and watch and tell me how effective he was after the halfway point of the second. He is an explosive special talent but we planned to use his conditioning against him.

Ok, here's a conciliatory note:

Although he missed that field goal, that is the farthest I've ever seen an eighth grader kick a football.
