Thoughts from South Carolina fan

If he'd just punted away and saved the TOs, he would have had about a minute left after Palardy's kick which is more than enough time to drive and get in FG range.

I understood it, though. He probably sent the kid in both times with one instruction: If you see THIS, run the play. If not, call a TO. The chances of us making that drive to get a simple kick for the win are miniscule, but we luckily did what we needed to do.

If I remember correct we spiked on 2nd down to stop clock. Think it would of only mattered if we didn't get last 1st down. His 2 timeouts were null after we got that 1st down. We could of run clock out either way. What it would of made us do is run a few more plays though, which could always go bad I guess. It was pretty smart on his part if you think about it cause if CBJ would of sent out punt team, I'm sure they had a play in mind. Guess we'll never know!! Good for us!!

On the youtube of Coach Spurrier's press conference a lot of people are on him pretty hard in the comments. I dont get that. He took responsibility for his coaching mistakes and was straight up about the mistakes his team made. I dunno.. I just didnt like it. Im a TN fan and its funny how much I dislike Spurrier and like him all at the same time.

Can't tell ya how many times Spurrier has pi$$ed me off, especially at Florida. But, strangely, I'm gonna miss him when he's gone.

We might have punched it in if that had been the case. Doesn't matter now.

First of all congrats:hi: I know y'all have been waiting a while for this one and it's gotta feel pretty special.

Y'all came out with more energy than us and we shot ourselves a few times and deserved to lose this one:banghead2:.

A few thoughts:

-North is a big time talent. Wish we had gotten him...I remember we were in his top 5 there for a while.

-Impressed by your defense as well. They are much better than last year.

-Hope Clowney made some people believers today. He won the battle up front against Tiny and looked like the superstar that he is. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of Tiny. I think he's 1st round talent and one of the better OL's I've seen.

Now join in me in rooting against Clemson tonight. Good luck the rest of the way.

Not sure where you're getting that Clowney beat Tiny. Clowney did have a great game, but as far as the match up against Tiny, he is now 0-2. On most of his plays in the backfield, we either tried to pull a guard to block him or have a tight end match up with him. These didn't end so well. However when Clowney was Tiny's assignment the big boy in orange came out on top.

Classy post....thanks. It was awesome to finally get a win over a quality opponent. North is a bigtime talent.....amazing catch. But this was such a team win. The atmosphere was amazing again. What was up with Spurrier with the 2 time outs? Was he trying to be cute or something? Wow....what a game. Go Vols.

I think he thought seriously about actually going for it, he wanted that first down desperately. He could feel it coming, knew Butch had his boys believing and one of those believers was getting ready to make a big play. He burned 2 TO's waffling, but in the end he just didn't have the grapes to do it. Butch's boys were ready both times. Butch won that little game of chicken.

Something tells me we won't be hearing many "jabs" thrown from Spurrier over the next few years.

Clowney got the best of Tiny the first half but it evened out over the course of the game. If I was a USC fan I would have been pissed the way Clowney came off the field at halftime. His team was behind 17-7 and he was laughing and smiling like they had just won the game. Clowney is a great talent but he certainly appears to be more interested in himself then the team.

I still do not understand the Spurrier timeouts. Why in the world would you consider going on 4th and 2 on your own thirty, being up 1, little time left in the game, your second string quarterback, and an opponents offense that had looked pretty anemic? Then calling two time outs? My only conclusion-brain fart for sure.

He wanted to see how we lined up on D. He really wanted to go for it, but Jancek matched up perfectly on D. That's why he decided to punt it a let his D win

It would have worked if not for North's miraculous effort on the catch. That took the air out of their D. The Oline took over then

I was glad to see Jones run down the clock. He wasn't going to make the same mistake again

Yes Clowney made some great plays and will be playing on Sundays, but I also saw Tiny bury him on pass protection and sealed him off on some running plays. Classy post OP.

Still makes no sense. If he goes for it, gets stopped, automatic field goal range. Even considering it makes zero sense, regardless of worrying about how the D lines up.

I don't know how you all feel about but I wanted him to punt. Spurrier going for it on 4th down there, although a horrible percentage call, would have scared me to death. To be honest, I think if Shaw would have still been in, he would have gone. I think he wanted to win with offense (typical Spurrier)and not take the chance with his D.
