I wanted him to go for it. I had much more confidence in our defense holding the two yards, than our offense going 65. Shows how much I know.

My reason for not wanting him to go for it was I really thought they would get it. With the way it has gone the last few years, I assume the worst will happen. Hopefully, this negative attitude goes away as we continue our rise.

Clowney had 5 total tackles 2.5 for a loss. Many times Tiny was not on him. I also believe after rewatching the reason we kept running to him and letting him come untouched was by design. We wore him down by attacking him and making him run too much. Go back and watch and tell me how effective he was after the halfway point of the second. He is an explosive special talent but we planned to use his conditioning against him.

This is the exact point I was going to make. Clowney beat Tiny head to head once or twice on running plays. All of his penetration was when we tried to get too fancy on the OL. In passing situations I don't know if he even got a hurry. I'd call that a win for Tiny.

Caveat that by saying I think Clowney is amazing and should be the first overall pick this year or close to it.

Tiny seemed to do well with the pass block. Think the scheme was interesting. I am still trying to get a sense of whether Clowney was "let go" to exploit his aggressiveness and wear him down. Tiny's pre-snap penalties should be noted. There's room for improvement there.

On most running plays I noticed Tiny blocking inside and letting Clowney run free by design.

To be honest, and Clowney played great, but his biggest plays weren't against Tiny. They were when we tried, for some reason, to block him with a pulling guard or a TE. Dude is still a beast, but 1v1 against Tiny it was an even match up.

First of all congrats:hi: I know y'all have been waiting a while for this one and it's gotta feel pretty special.

Y'all came out with more energy than us and we shot ourselves a few times and deserved to lose this one:banghead2:.

A few thoughts:

-North is a big time talent. Wish we had gotten him...I remember we were in his top 5 there for a while.

-Impressed by your defense as well. They are much better than last year.

-Hope Clowney made some people believers today. He won the battle up front against Tiny and looked like the superstar that he is. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of Tiny. I think he's 1st round talent and one of the better OL's I've seen.

Now join in me in rooting against Clemson tonight. Good luck the rest of the way.
Alot classier than I would have been able to be if I was in your situation, hats off!

So we let him run free early, nearly decapitating Neal, so we could tire him out? I hadn't thought about it that way.

For some reason Tennessee always gets the opponent's best, no matter who it is. They need to remember that and be well prepared.

Interested to know your thoughts on Spurrier using 2 timeouts on the 4th down late in the game. I had no idea what he was doing - did you?

The first t.o. i thought CSS wanted to see how we were going to line up, the second i started thinking maybe he was trying to rest his D. They had hands on hips alot of the 4thtime qtr. Very classy post by the op as well. Go Big Orange!

Clowney got the better of Tiny in that game...particularly on running plays. As much as I would like to, I don't think anybody can objectively say different.

If he'd just punted away and saved the TOs, he would have had about a minute left after Palardy's kick which is more than enough time to drive and get in FG range.

Wouldn't have mattered he had a back up QB in at that time to try and move the ball 50-60 yds with no timeouts.....no way

Not sure where you're getting that Clowney beat Tiny. Clowney did have a great game, but as far as the match up against Tiny, he is now 0-2. On most of his plays in the backfield, we either tried to pull a guard to block him or have a tight end match up with him. These didn't end so well. However when Clowney was Tiny's assignment the big boy in orange came out on top.

This is true on multiple occasions. Watched this from up high and it was fun. Tiny manhandled him in every 1:1 pass rush situation. He never touched Worley iirc when in that situation.
But, Clowney is a stud and much more than just a pass rusher. He made several plays when TN did not execute blocking assignments right.
Both these players are beasts imo. Getting ready to make some serious coin.

It was strange, and a lot of folks were nervous about it. I looked at Butch on the second line up and he looked a little flustered too. It was touch and go for a sec there. SC gets a first there and the party is over basically.

Tiny got owned on what ESPN is calling "The Hit 2.0" against Raijon. He blew the assignment, pretty badly. No real complaints about his performance in pass protection though.

Which hit? The first big hit was blown by the tight end.

Most insightful comment I heard all weekend was after showing the highlight reel of Clowney blowing people up (Vols included) the commentator said "too bad he doesn't love to play the game." Maybe it has been injuries, or some beef with the HBC or some other reason, but it might be just as simple as Clowney just doesn't love it enough to go full speed all the time.

Might be the dumbest comment I've ever seen. Clowney gives as much effort as any DE out there. He's always taken the high road through all the criticism and repeated every time that he just loves to play the game. All the crap that people make up doesn't matter to him.
