I thought this was an interesting point to brought up by Crompton. With Milton a little banged up, why not bring Nico in to hand the ball off with 3 minutes left?

It was three plays and no intent to do anything but hand off, so what's the point of bringing in Nico?

Also, just speculation, but maybe Heupel wanted to send a signal that Joe is his guy
First part is spot on. Second part, I doubt very much coach cares at all about sending signals in the middle of an SEC game, he’s just trying to win and get out.

That's why I said maybe.

But to play devil's advocate, forget the "signals" part. Maybe he was just sick of being asked about Nico and so left Joe in. 😁

If the score was something like 56-14, I’d be inclined to agree, but if I try to put myself in Heupel’s shoes, putting Nico in for the end of the SC game doesn’t even cross my mind. Just leave Joe out there, forget giving the freshman garbage minutes, finish the job, and move on to the bye week.

If he had come in for 3 snaps, the same people would be saying "What's the point of bringing Nico in for these nothing snaps? He's not going to learn anything from that garbage. He needs more snaps!"

Perhaps it's Josh Heupel's team. Perhaps he is capable of subbing players without being second guessed. Just perhaps.

We probably won't see Nico play again until the UCONN game unless Milton suffers a season ending injury.

You’ll most likely only see him during UConn and Vandy and that’s it barring injury to Joe. Which probably means a redshirt year even though they didn’t have plans for that. But who knows maybe we jump out on one of the SEC teams on the schedule and find ourselves up by at least 20 in the 4th.

Things were getting chippy, maybe Josh didn't want to risk the future guy with the SC rednecks looking to get revenge.

Look, next year, Nico starts with Chattanooga, UTEP, NC State.

THIS^ Its more in a QBs interest even if he is projected to be a star (don't always play out) to just play 4 games and keep that year to portal if needed. Nobody has a crystal ball, his family may have even said if he is not taking over as the starter role lets save this year just in case. These type players are thinking NFL so they really think out all the avenues and sometimes with outside influence. JMO

JH knows more about QBs than I do, so I'm trusting him. I think, at some point this season, we'll need him to play some meaningful snaps. Off week came at good time. If we're all healthy for TaM at home, I like our chances. To me, SC was the most important game of the season. Now that SC is under our belts, I think TaM becomes the most important game. We win that one, and who knows what can happen in this year where teams seem on more even level. I think Nico will be ready when his number is called...whenever it is.

And perhaps Nico isn’t trusted. I don’t 2nd guess Heupel. Never have. If Nico can’t be trusted to hand the ball off that would be pause for concern and indicate we may be looking to the portal for 2024 QB. But more than likely they’re wanting to redshirt him.

No reason to put Nico in when we're just handing off the ball and running out the clock.

I know the official line is 'we aren't redshirting him', but all the same, I don't see any reason to waste his 'redshirt' for meaningless snaps. You can plan to not redshirt him, but still not just waste redshirt status for no reason.

I swear I believe some of you lay awake at 3am and wonder why Nico isn't getting snaps.
And I believe some of you read way too much into posts on a discussion board. It’s a bye week. If you have something more interesting to discuss, please do.
