Me too, brotha. I'll be in Z13. I'll be the heavily tattooed fellow that looks like he doesn't belong at a sporting event lolol.

IMHO it is one thing to not be able to comfortably afford coming to the game, missing it because of work or a family-related matter but it is another not to go just because it is easier to sit in front of a big screen and avoid the crowd, elements, whatever. Those who can and choose not to go just because it takes some effort is not a true fan. Again IMHO.

Besides for the many persons who are making gargantuan efforts to go to the game and expend probably more money than they actually should, it is the love of the Big Orange and the excitement of being at the game which compels the true fan. From my teens through early 40's, I was able to see all home games for more than 25 years before family obligations and work caused me to HAVE to miss a game now and then. And I've even traveled from a business trip in Alaska leaving at 10:30 PM local time on Friday night to make a noon kickoff at Neyland while living in Chicago.

But as important as anything right now, supporting Team #118 is something that we as fans do have in our control. If crowd support has anything to do with the winning edge, and sometimes it does, then Vols fans should be there. An over capacity crowd at Neyland with not a lot of people expected from USU means there will be well more than 100,000 Tennessee fans there. The crowd noise could very well invigorate the team even more. I remember the crowd reception given the Vols at the Halloween game against USC-e several years ago. The Gamecocks got behind early and never came back.

Hey guys, does anyone usually scalp pre game? I plan on doing that with 3 friends before USU. Any chance there will be scalpers selling?

Always is. Tbh I have only had good luck doing that a couple time though. Most people out selling are expensive as hell. But there is always a few good ones.

It might be kind of tricky for this one. The rule of thumb is that the longer you wait before kickoff the cheaper the tickets get. But with it being almost sold out already it seems, you might not want to wait too long. It is a balancing act but you can definitely luck out on some good seats for a good price close to game time

I am single dad on a tight income but I dropped close to $400 to take my 3 kids. Sitting in section F Row 2. I live in Atlanta and we'll be driving back in the wee hours of the AM. I don't care.....this is opening day and worth every penny. I have a big screen as well but it's just not the same.

Totally agree! Lived in SC 2 yrs & ATL for 8. Missed 1-2 home games those 10 yrs. I used to work out of town & would take a red eye from Portland OR on Friday, land in ATL, stop by the house & shower, drive to Ktown, watch the game, spend the night at my folks house in Chatt., get up go to church, drive back to ATL, unpack, repack, go to the airport & fly back to Portland. Did this every home game in 1995. It'd wear me out now but I'd probably still do it! NOTHING like the 6 or 7 days a year we get to be in Neyland Stadium!

Going with the wife and my parents. We will be in section GG with all of the Utah State fans. My best friend is an Aggie fan and his grandfather played there, so we got tickets in that section. Of course, he decided he doesn't want to go because he has his fantasy draft that day.

I guess it makes sense, though. Some people would rather go to a fantasy football butt fest than go to a game between two teams that will likely never meet again in Knoxville. It's ok, though. He wouldn't have liked the outcome, anyway.

Staying home watching on the big screen > spending around $300(tickets for family of 4, food, gas, bad weather , sitting next to a drunk)

Yeah, why go to the concert when you can listen to the CD in your house? The experience is the same either way.

Is saving $300 greater than creating a memory for your kids that they will pass on to their kids? I take my son to the games and do the same things that I did with my Grandfather when I was a kid. We haggled tickets from scalpers to get into the first Penn State game. We sat in the rain against Auburn when we kept punting on first down. We laughed at the drunks. Orange traditions. Orange bonding. Orange memories. Priceless.

This. I can still remember going to the games with my dad as a kid. And now I'm blessed enough to take my own children to at least one per year. Those are some of my fondest memories.
My sons room even has some of the same vols artwork/memorabilia that I had in my room growing up that my parents saved and passed to me.

I understand where you are coming from. I just feel dropping a few hundred dollars on a football game is ridiculous. I have taken my wife many times, and also my oldest. To take a family of 4 is just too much.

Nothing wrong with watching on television. I wouldn't justify yourself because others think taking their kids to a football game is that important.

I have a big screen. And I live 7 hours away. I also bought 5 lower level tickets, hotel rooms at Worlds Fair Holiday Inn, and my business will be closed for Labor Day weekend, so no telling how much $$$ I'll lose. But I don't care. The first game of the season is Christmas for me, and fellow VFL's. We only have 6 chances a year to experience this. Go to the game. Your kids will love you forever.

I don't often agree with you but that was a pretty spectacular post.

I'm driving 865 miles to come cheer on our boys against Utah State. Can't wait it's been to long since I've been home.
